#2 Eastern Washington Eagles (2-0, 0-0 BSC) at University of Toledo Rockets (0-2, 0-0 MAC)

TV: ESPN3 and ESPN GamePlan
Radio: 700 ESPN
Series: Never met.

After a pair of tussles with the Southeastern Conference, the Big Sky Conference is going to look downright inviting to the Toledo Rockets of the Mid-American Conference.

Toledo is 0-2 after suffering a 24-6 loss to Florida to open the season and then falling 38-23 to Missouri on Sept. 7. A year ago, UT advanced to its third-straight bowl game, falling to Utah State 41-15 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, Idaho. The Rockets finished 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the Western Division of the MAC.

“It’s a test – it’s a true test,” said Eastern head coach Beau Baldwin. “They are a very quality opponent, and a team that wins eight or nine games every year at the FBS level. When you watch video of them, they can play with any team in the country and they showed that in the first two weeks against Florida and Missouri.

“We are going to have to really be on point on both sides of the ball,” he continued. “Our margin for error is going to be razor thin – especially on the road. There are certain things we did last week that we won’t get away with against Toledo. We know that, and we have to attack it all week in practice.”

Eastern enters 2-0, having upset 25th-ranked Oregon State from the Pac-12 Conference 49-46 on Aug. 31 and then scoring 29 first-quarter points in a 43-14 romp over NCAA Division II Western Oregon on Sept. 7.

Eastern is 2-0 for only the second time since 2001, and the first in Beau Baldwin’s 10 seasons as an Eastern head coach or assistant coach. In fact, the last time EWU was 3-0 came in 2007 when Baldwin was head coach at Central Washington.

“It has been awhile since we have been 2-0 because we always have had such a tough nonconference schedule to start the season,” he said. “The neat thing about the Western Oregon game is that there are a lot of things that we can coach and clean up. At the end of the day, I love finding stuff to clean up especially when the guys find a way to win, and win fairly convincingly. It feels pretty good to be 2-0.”

I see this as a very challenging game to win on the road. Toledo is hungry for a win after good showings to the SEC. Their sense of urgency will be very high and I expect to get their very best.

I know Beau will have our guys ready, but it is always more difficult to motive kids when you are playing a game you can afford to lose as apposed to one you have to win.

As a Toledo fan, this game scares the crap out of me. If UT doesn't come ready to play, this could easily be a loss. And that is the feeling that a lot of other UT fans have. I hope that UT comes out ready to play and gets out to an early lead and can put you guys away early. If EWU is able to stick around for a while, then anything can happen.

I can't see Toledo "putting us away," early. I by no means think we are a lock to win on the road, but we are going to be in it.

BTW for those fond of gambling or knowing what Vegas thinks, the point spread opened at EWU +7.5. Only one casino is taking action this early (normal for FCS), and it has already been bet down to EWU +5 (the big betters like The Eags!). This will probably be the last game that has a Vegas line for Eastern until FCS playoffs (usually second round). I know some illegal offshore sites do FCS, but I don't follow them.

"They can compete with any team in the country" is the quote from the Toledo running back. That is the last line from the video clip posted above. I think this shows Toledo will be one of the toughest opponents our program has ever faced and obviously we've faced some great teams in the past. Listen to the video clip above and your will hear the respect EWU football has earned. Toledo won't look past us, it is their home opener and they will be ready. Winning this game takes our program to another level, just like the OSU win. God bless and go Eagles.

For EWU, it'll boil down to how effectively we can stop the running game. My guess is UT will try to sustain some long drives and keep us off the field as much as possible. This might be the most challenging game of the season.

That Missouri team did to the Rockets what we did to the Beavers. The Tigers used their QBs ability to run (77 total rushing yards) to keep the Rocket DBs closer to the box, then threw over the top when he had the chance. I expect us to do the same, but Toledo will be ready. This one will come down to turnovers and special teams.

Big error in first sentence: "The Eagles became the first FCS team to knock off a FBS team since 2010 with the victory over the Beavers."

Yeah, they forgot the word ranked. I've noticed a lot of talk radio/media guys mess that up. I was just gonna post this article in the game week articles and interviews section, so I just went ahead and merged the threads.

Later money coming in on Toledo. EWU now at +8. Progression: +7.5, +5, +7.5, +8.

I noticed that the game is being shown on "ESPN Gameplan". Is this something that can be ordered on TV or is it like ESPN3 and only available online?

Yes, but the OP lists ESPN 3 and Gameplan. Is one different than the other? I don't have access to ESPN3 since my cable provider doesn't offer it.

I believe game plan is something that can be ordered on tv. ESPN3 is internet only.

The MAC streams home MAC games for free on their website (http://www.mac-sports.com/Schools/Toledo/LiveStreaming.aspx). So that link SHOULD work for free for anyone and everyone.

SeattleEagle, ToledoRockets,
I have been on ESPNGameplan, nowhere did I see where the game is being broadcast. All the games that are on ESPNGameplan, were listed, Toledo vs Eastern Washington University were not. Hope that I didn't look in the right place ;) I have DirecTV, I will be going to my Son Vic Jr residence to watch the game, he has Comcast. Good Luck tomorrow. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace
