#2 EWU at NAU Game Thread

Gotta say, the decision to throw the ball into the endzone when you have the lead and the other team has no timeouts left was really disappointing. You run the ball and run some of that clock down.

We'll need to beat UND next week for sure and hope we can get a split with Montana and PSU.

Hoping for a split? My expectations are much higher for this team then a split between PSU and UM. We need to win out if we want to be playing at home in the playoffs.

This loss isn't totally on Baldwin's shoulders, but that was probably the worst call I have ever seen him make. With Adams, you may be able to pull off something cute like throwing it into the end zone on 4th down. There were two better and more obvious options that that, including A)Kick the FG!, and B) Run the ball to run down the clock!

A split is probably much more realistic than winning out at this point. UND aren't world beaters and we should beat them at home, but I'd say a win against Montana is unlikely at this point and PSU will not be a gimme, especially playing away from home. It's highly unlikely we'll be playing at home and that's even if we make the playoffs this year.

What a waste of a great performance by Forte and the offensive line. They played their hearts out. As far as the call on 4th down. :dunce:

The extra long season is taking it's toll. Weird decisions all around. Didn't see any of the video as was radio bound, but how do you let the 3rd string QB make those plays? Gonna be a long trip home.

He was tossing perfect passes all the way down the field. But we were playing our patented prevent which means the opposing team just goes down field unscathed......I'm still tryng to get that 4th down call out of my head

DTR, are you serious? Let's be honest, the brutal performance by West just solidified that VA will play next week. As far as us losing to Montana, no way, no how. UM is not as good as everyone wants to believe. It will be a tough game, as it usually is, but with VA in the line up, we win out this season and we probably win today by 20+ points.

We get the Griz at home with VA back. This isn't 6 or 7 years ago when we hoped for wins over Montana, we have more beyond that.

If we had better QB play today it wouldn't have been close. Other then Tevin McDonald getting completely torched on the last 2 plays to give up the score our defense looked much improved.

We need to get 91 on the field more, he is going to be a stud.

It was awful prevent. Prevent was the right call, but McDonald wasn't on the same page and let a guy run right past him. I have no idea how that can happen. And then he did it AGAIN on the very next play.

Agreed. Unless Vernon can't even walk next week, he gets the start. If they lose to UND, which isn't any less likely than losing to NAU, then we are in must-win for the rest of the year just to play out a playoff run on the road.

West was 16 of 35 for 46% passing, that's not going to win many games even when your running back goes for 200+.

Yeah I am serious, why wouldn't I be? Have you been watching the same team all season long and especially since Adams has been injured? Based on the last 3 games, what on earth would make you believe we'd stay close to Montana even at home? And you are delusional if you think that West's performance today has anything to do with whether or not Adams plays against UND or the next week. You can't just wave a magic wand and make bones heal quicker. Outside of the bones healing by themselves, there's a lot of soft tissue and other issues that are involved with a broken foot.

Yeah West was bad but part of that is on the coaches continuing to put him in make or break situations when they could have run the ball. Forte had a career day and we take him out on the final play of the game, anyone make any sense of that one yet?

FWIW, I think we're going to kick the crap out of UND next weekend at home. It's a must-win game for us to make the playoffs now, and I would be surprised if there's not a QB change this week, and I don't think it'll be VA back in the lineup, either.

I think West will start next week. You can't put VA in there if he is not 100% healed. West has potential, he has a great arm but the timing is just not there. I'm willing to bet if they just start him out with some short passing plays and let the rb's and OL do their thing, we'll be just fine. I'm guessing another close game next week unless West hits his stride which he is more than capable of doing...

agreed. and if they do put him in the game its probably not the right call at all. I think west has the potential to be really good but its most likely a confidence thing coupled with just not playing a lot of ball at this level.

I think I am much more optimistic than some of you. Yes it's a tough loss, but we lost conference games in 2012 and 2010 too. Flagstaff is a tough place to play at especially without your best player on the field. We can and will beat UND next weekend and that should set us up for a late reason run to close out the year against Montana and Portland.
