Wouldn't count on this one going the Vikings way, but I applaud Glanville's recruiting efforts anyway.


Charles Siddoway, a 6-foot-7, 300-pound lineman from Marist High School in Eugene, Ore., has been proactive on the recruiting trail. He just finished up two major combines - the Barton Football Marketing Workout in Salem and a Nike camp workout this past weekend at Stanford. And while he's getting around, Siddoway is still in a holding pattern when it comes to summer travel and camps.

"I felt like I did pretty well," he told Scout Wednesday when asked about the Nike camp. "I worked out well, did the drills well. We just did the SPARQ training stuff. We also did the one-on-ones at the end and I did pretty well. I only lost one or two."

Two more scholarship offers - from :D Portland State :D and Washington - have found their way to the Siddoway's mailbox. "They faxed the offer to my school and then sent them in the mail," he said. "I wasn't really expecting them. I'm still just trying to keep things open, figure it all out."

That makes six offers to date - :lol: PSU :lol: , UW, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA and Boise State.

Eastern Washington was by Wednesday, Oregon State was Tuesday and UCLA's offensive line coach is expected to stop by Marist Friday.

So with all the attention coming his way, has Siddoway started to figure some things out in terms of taking some visits to colleges over the summer, take part in some camps? "I don't have anything planned out really yet," he said. "I'm taking it slow. I'm waiting for track to get over and then I'll start to figure things out."

Siddoway is seeded third in the state 4A discus event, and the state meet starts Thursday at the University of Oregon.
 
ON CAMPUS: PSU loses Hawaiian receiver – to Hawaii

FOOTBALL: Portland State recruiters went after a high school wide receiver from Hawaii – familiar territory for ex-University of Hawaii coaches Jerry Glanville and Mouse Davis, both now at PSU – but Kalua Noa says he has decided to play for the UH Warriors.

He will join the team for next year's spring practices.

"I'm super excited," Noa tells the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. "It's always been in the family."

Noa's father, Henry, played for UH. So did Kalua's older brothers, Kilinahe and Waikoloa.

Noa, 6-2 and 200 pounds, says he got a scholarship offer from Portland State on Wednesday and was considering it, but on Thursday, the Warriors offered him the chance to stay in the state.
 
Just read that Montana State has offered Kramer Hagan's younger brother, Spencer, a scholarship at wide receiver. PSU offered him last month. Interesting to see if he wants a different college experience than his brother.
 
Just throwing this out there, but Jordan Rasmussen is leaving MSU, mainly due to the fact that former Westview HS QB Cody Kempt is transferring to MSU.

FOOTBALL: Portland State recruiters, who have hit Texas on occasion looking for players, reportedly went after quarterback Bryce Petty. But the 6-2, 210-pounder from Midothian, Texas, near Dallas-Fort Worth, who is ranked No. 29 in the nation by scout.com, turned down PSU and New Mexico to commit to Tennessee.
 
There are lots of kids like that all over Texas. I think there are some kids who attend our local high school here in Kerrville (Kerrville Tivy) are worth a look. They run the spread offense which is close enough to the run & shoot that they don't have to many bad habits. Kerrville Tivy is usually in the hunt for the state title in their division and Jerry is well remembered from his stint with the Oilers and Mouse with the USFL Gamblers.
 
The systems are somewhat similar, but the quarterback's role in the system may be a problem. The run & shoot really emphasizes accuracy and timing on passes, and spread passers are not world renowned for their accuracy. Questions might also be raised about whether or not their arms could adjust to throwing 50+ passes a game.

PSU makes offer

Portland State reportedly is the first school to offer a scholarship to Saugus (Calif.) High running back Ryan Zirbel. The 5-11, 190-pound senior-to-be scored 36 rushing touchdowns last season, averaging 8.2 yards per carry and totaling 2,281 yards on the ground in the Foothill League.
 
I'd like to see the Viks offer more receivers, not tailbacks, to fill the void at receiver. It takes less time for them to get accustomed.

Agreed.

We already have (6) fullbacks on the roster as is.

I wonder if he's targeted to move positions.

With all the BCS schools looking at Spencer Hagan I dont think that will happen. Doug Cosbie (11 years with Cowboys) has spent time with Spencer and is really high on him. He just turned 16 not long ago and has his senior year of HS left. Awsome reciever for who ever gets his 6'4" frame ...this kid has great hands and size

Wow! What a pick-up that would be for Glanville and the Viks. This kid's stock seems to be going up all the time.
 
On the Cal message board it says they have extended a preferred walk on status for Spencer if he wants it and they are going to pay his way (somehow they can do this I guess) for him to report early next June and for his summer school classes., something very few preferred walk ons get, they want him on the team until a scholarship can open up. Troy Taylor the Cal bear radio guy with Joe Starkey (49ers too) works Spencer out along with Doug Cosbie, he said on Rivals Spencer is a talent, just very young so the BCS schools are watching his growth this fall. I saw him play this summer in some passing leagues against all Division 1 big time high schools (Clovis West / Fresno) Napa, Edison, he does what ever he wants as a receiver on the field and scored at will. Scout has him ranked at #107 nationally as a a receiver and rates him as a 'three star' player, not too many 3 star players end up 1 AA, but again he is very close with his brother Kramer and may very well want to play with him. Besides, if your good and develop you can get to the NFL from PSU.

Biography:

During his 2007 junior season, he had 52 catches for 928 yards (second in metro Sacramento and fifth in the Sac-Joaquin Section). Led his team in receiving and scored the only receiving touchdown in the section championship game. The past two seasons, has led the Golden Empire League in catches and yards. Hagan finished his season with five out of six games with 100 yards. Is on pace to break the section receiving mark (3,181) next year as a senior and finish in the top ten in state history for yards.

Had 683 yards on 39 receptions and six touchdowns as a 2006 sophomore for Sacramento (Calif.) Capital Christian.

Has a 3.8 GPA.
