2011 Offers

Don't know much about McKay LaSalle from Bountiful other than you guys are looking at him but not recruiting him hard. He plays for SL Metro, which hasn't faced the level of competition in AAU ball this summer that Brown has faced playing for Pump N Run. There are a few players in the 2011 Utah HS class that seem to be coming on this summer, and coaches are taking a wait and see approach with them to see how they do during the HS season. I think LaSalle is one of those kids. Orchard from Highland, Wilkinson from Viewmont are a couple of others. Then there are a couple of kids in southern Utah that play for Utah Select that could turn out to be D1 in the 2012 class. Ott from St. George, Gubler from Hurricane.

As for Juan Anderson, I don't think either USU or Weber State have much of a chance getting him.

Thanks for the news George.

The only chance Weber has at Juan is if Taylor decides to come here and then is able to talk him into coming with him. Getting both would be a HUGE coup for the CATS. Nonetheless, the chances of getting both aren't good...

I'm hoping for both, Brown and Baker, along with TJ Taylor, Collete, Juan Anderson, and Alan Williams.

I'm sure that Brown would be just like Collete...Mission bound. That means a six member class isn't out of the question. With four of them playing right away.

Insiders indicate that Brown is a Baptist boy and if he does mission work, it will be summer or post grad. Also, rumor has it, he may have committed after the Anaheim tournament! But maybe the information wizard George has better intel?

Bumped into Lillard at the store over the weekend, I asked him if we will see Taylor in a Wildcat uniform he said he doesn't really know. I said he's your cousin what do you think he said I'm just trying to let him make his own decision. I said alright, wrong answer hand over the kitkat bar.

I'm starting to wonder if we're going to land any of the big 4 we started after?

Thats awesome!! Congratulations to Brown. He is developing nicely into a really good basketball player. I look forward to watching him for the next four years. He is an excellent outside shooter, he sees the court extremely well (great basketball IQ), can penetrate, pass, and plays defense. He will only get better too.

With regard to Taylor. That was by far the best reply from a thoughtful and concerned cousin. Lillard wants whats best for his cousin, which is for him to make his own decision. Hell, he has an offer from Harvard. How many of us on this board would turn Harvard down? Automatically that degree will get you a job anywhere in the country, if not world. If Taylor comes to Weber, which is still among his top schools, its because he knows he will get playing time and a shot at getting into the NBA, NBA Development League, or a good European program. It'll, I think, come down to whether or not he wants to pursue education or basketball. No matter, Weber State, academically, isn't a slouch. I know a lot of people who have gone here and been highly successful. Taylor is a really smart kid. I wouldn't doubt if he ends up a Wildcat.

Also, I'm sure Baker will end up being a Wildcat.

Oh, even if Weber isn't able to get any of the big three. The Wizard has a list of excellent and strong recruits. Maybe there are better players than the "Big 3" on the recruiting list.

Devante Adams and Lydell Cardwell are both very good looking ballers. They have great skills. Cardwell is looking strong this summer. He hasn't been scoring as many points (he is still averaging 27 against tough competition), however, he has been playing lock down defense and really showing his versitility; team player, work ethic, passing skills, court commander. Also, there are some college scouts that think Devanta looks a lot like former UCLA Bruin Westbrook, which means, he is quick, atlhletic, and a natural scorer.

Neither got a lot of looks during the High School season, but that doesn't mean they aren't as good or better than those that did. A mark of a great coach is his ability to find great players anywhere. I think the Wizard is doing that. I'm not worried about who will be signed. Also, every recruit on the list is still considering Weber. I'm sure we will have five or six guys brought in for official visits. With Brown committing so early in the recruiting period it gives Weber that many more visits, since we didn't have to use one on him.

The Best PG in Utah signs with Weber...not a bad situation

One down five to go. I wouldn't doubt that Weber is going to be hearing from Collete fairly soon. After, I'm guessing that Baker will commit (after the official visit), Alan William, and Lydell Cardwell or Devante Adams will be the next two, and perhaps another Forward (the kid from Florida perhaps) I'd like Juan Anderson.

I will be surprised if we sign more than three players this fall. We only have three seniors and we don't have any marginal players, like we have had in the past. If it turns out that someone doesn't work out or decides to leave, we can always sign players in the spring. I don't see anyone on this years team that I would want to cut. The only way I see us signing a fourth player is if they are going on a mission right out of high school.

Brown isn't a PG, he's a SG. He may be able to make the transition to point as a Wildcat, but not sure, and not sure that Rahe has that in mind. The top PG in this years Utah HS class is Tyrell Corbin from West. Obviously Utah doesn't put out many HS PG's who can play at the Big Sky level or higher and start, and I don't know of any in this years class who are that level. The Orchard kid may get there if he really comes on this year, maybe. Once in a while, but not often, do you find a Utah HS kid who can compare to a Lilliard at point.

I agree that Brown is not a point guard. I'm hoping he turns out to be a Brad Barton, Nic Hansen sort of player. Jordan Richardson is a point guard. Lillard was not brought in to be a point guard. It just turned out that we didn't have anyone better at it than him. You may see him running at the 2 position from time to time this year, if Richardson works out at point. Ideally, you would want to have at least two point guards in your system at all times. We haven't always had that recently and it hurts the continuity of play when you have to substitute. It is not imperitive that we sign a point guard this year. However, we will need to sign one within the next two years. From what I have seen, the only other true point guard on our radar, at this point, is Taylor.

I don't see that we have any glaring needs for this year and next. However, it would be great if we could get a dynamic talent at the 3 position. Someone like a Juan Anderson would lfit the bill nicely.

You've gotta have some faith. I think Weber will be rewarded in the long run.

Here is the article...Where, which article does he mention UCLA??

These were comments posted on Woods and Baker (both 2011 offers) from ASU analyst on Rivals:
Collin Woods -- It's been a very mediocre summer for Woods, a player who had a chance to place himself among the top recruits in the state this off-season. In the two games we observed Woods play last week he had one made field goal and one assist. And from speaking with others in attendance at his other games, they didn't really go any better. Woods was playing a team with some very good talent, and he clearly wasn't playing up to that level. No ASU recruit in the class saw his stock take a more severe hit than Woods, and while it appeared going into July ASU would be willing to take his commitment, it's doubtful that remains the case.

"Horizon guard Collins Woods weighing offers
Phoenix Horizon senior guard Collin Woods is looking at the Ivy League and smaller Division I schools as his future college for basketball.

Since the NCAA-viewing basketball showcases ended last week, Kathy Woods said in a series of e-mails that her son has received offers from Columbia and Cornell of the Ivy League to play basketball and scholarship offers from UC-Irvine, Portland and Cal State Northridge.

Woods, who was the Class 5A Desert Valley Region Player of the Year last season.

"Right now, he's evaluating each individual school's fit for him," Kathy Woods said. "It's a real exciting time for him."

Looks like the Pac-10/12 is out, are we out too?

Last I heard, Woods had narrowed his choices down to ASU and CU. Did ASU renege their offer to him in favor of Baker? There has been some speculation that that was going to happen.

Brown is a great start to this class. I hope that Rahe and Co are able to keep the momentum going and get a couple more on the wish list. Perhaps Price, Taylor, or Williams.

"Arizona State could be making a push for Baker while cooling off on Phoenix Horizon senior guard Collin Woods.

Woods, 6-1 combo guard who was the 5A Desert Valley Region Player of the Year last season, may have hurt himself by choosing not to play in the Desert Duel. When ASU coach Herb Sendek offered him a scholarship after watching him play in an open gym at Horizon in the spring, Woods probably should have jumped on it immediately. It will be interesting to see if Woods gets another offer."
