good compilation but it seems since the rivals sight died a while back there isn't very much insight into EWU recruiting and it seems we usually don't know much until well into the post season about potential recruits. I saw that PSU already has a few committs. Why does it seem like we are always late in recruiting?

No idea, although we do seem to have a lot of young Ends waiting in the wings already. (Evan Day, Dylan Zylstra, etc.) The only FCS schools that seems to be on his radar at the moment is Montana. This is, of course, according to rivals.

Of note, there are only 16 Seniors on this years team. Two of those are Zach Johnson and Tyler Hart, who are both applying for medical redshirts. Assuming those go through, that's only 14 Seniors. Of those, I'm not sure of the total full/partial scholarship ratio there.....but I am kind of thinking this will be a small-ish recruiting class, which is ok because it allows us to be more selective.

I think we are basically set at WR/RB, and also at TE/DE, and even with Mitchell and Gauthier graduating I can see our starter next year being one of the QB's already on the roster, most likely Vitto or Adams. Haven't seen much of Fishback yet. Maybe we go after a 4th QB to RS, or maybe a drop-down. I am thinking we will target the OL/DL/LB/S positions, as well as some athlete type kids that can play corner with Gibbs and Chaten both exhausting eligibility.

Break-down of current Senior Class:

QB - 2
RB - 1
WR - 1*
TE - 1
C - 1
OT - 1
DT - 2
LB - 2*
CB - 2
S -2
K - 1

The 2012 class will contribute primarily in 2014-2016. Need to keep the pipeline flowing with good athletes

the Austin kid from Graham would be an excellent fit for our offense, and knowing Baldwin's reputation in grooming QBs I would not be surprised to see him at EWU. He is flying a little under the radar from the pac12 schools but he would be an outstanding Big Sky QB in my opinion.

Just saw on rivals that EWU may have offered Austin Griffin, a 6'5, 330 pound offensive lineman from Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon on a recent visit. This is the same school Jordan Talley came from. I think he would be a nice get for EWU and we seem to have been getting more kids from Oregon lately.

Here is his recruiting video from last season. He is the RG, #71. I am pretty sure #6 in this video is Talley making the defense look silly.

Jesuit’s Austin Griffin Works for Eastern Washington Offer

According to him it did, “Eastern Washington liked what they saw and said they will be sending a written offer here after the first part of September.”

Griffin likes the fit in Cheney and said he could not ask for a better fit as far as team mates and the staff go. “It is a great situation, ” he added.

just watched that video and Talley was unreal in high school and has been a great back so far this season. we seem to have many viable options at running back for the next couple of years. it sounds like griffin could be a done deal but i imagine he could be holding out for an offer from oregon or whatever. he looks like a solid run blocker and i think the eagles will be more run based over the next couple of years so he could be a solid grab if he commits.

Looking at the athletes our staff has recruited continues to impress, especially when you look at the facilities offered at Eastern. I was at a high school game at U-High last week and thought "this facility is not that much different than Eastern's and the Eagles are a Div 1 college". It would seem to me our coaches are really hamstrung by our facilities compared to any other in the Big Sky, yet they bring in outstanding class players. Seldom do I read about Eastern players getting DUI's, assault charges, or ?? Like some others of our BSC brethren.
Good Job Coaches Baldwin, Best, Graham, and all others.

Been digging some more (have the day off :thumb:), and it looks like Austin Griffin has at least given a verbal to EWU.

Here is the link and this is a good site for Oregon HS players.

Ranger,
Forte, Talley,Withroy(sp) are Recruits from Jesuit HS 11. What position is he? If he is as good as three Recruits, he will be among some outstanding Athletes coming from Oregon. Keep them coming. Vic Wallace

Griffin is an OL, and I imagine at 6'5" and 320-330 he'll be playing Guard. That's a big dude. I didn't know about Weatheroy - yep, another Jesuit guy, didn't realize it. Forte is from Cali, though.

I'd say OL and DL are our biggest needs... especially interior linemen and DTs. That said, Eastern can always use some decent size kids with great speed. You can always find a place for those types of kids at this level, whether it's at DB or WR / RB.

I'd say OL, DL (not Ends so much), DB, LB, in that order. I'd say there's an outside chance they'd look at a drop-down QB. I think we're pretty set at WR, RB, TE, DE....
