2011 Recruiting

I'd say OL, DL (not Ends so much), DB, LB, in that order. I'd say there's an outside chance they'd look at a drop-down QB. I think we're pretty set at WR, RB, TE, DE....

Granted I haven't seen him play (in practice) a ton, but I'd feel pretty comfortable with Adams starting next year as a RS freshman with the WRs we have. Speaking of, also really excited for WR Shaquille Hill play for us next year... his highlight videos looked like a miniature Taiwan playing wideout. Is he redshirting, or is he a prop, I forget? Vic?

SE174,
Reference Shequille Hill, He didn't come in, some problems. Will check with Coach "B" on Monday at Northern Quest. I've seen Vernon Adams in practice.
the more I seen him, I am more impressed with him. Him and Anthony Vitto will compete for the starting position, along with whoever else comes in. Again #35, Ashton Clark, what more can I say about that young Receiver? Just think, we have our Receivers for at least 2 more years. :thumb: :thumb:

I listened to the entire game, and was very impressed with the outcome of the game. Our team is a team that "bends but don't break". It seems since B. Kauf went down, Nick Edwards and company have really stepped up. Credit to Bo Levi, he came through again :thumb: :thumb:     . I wouldn't blame him for the pick, Mario Brown have to take credit for that one. I really don't want to single out any more to congratulate for the "Victory", the entire team played their hearts out. Granted we did have some lapse on "D",that will be taken care of in time.

Cody Humphrey on Defensive Line? + TE?, he is a "Jack Of All Trades". Next week is our last home game for the year, let us filled those stands for our team, especially our "SENIORS" It will hit all of us very hard, especially when numbers 5 & 10 are introduced,  those Johnson Twins will be greatly missed, along with Chris Powers, Gabe Jackson, Bo Levi Mitchell, Renard Williams, Dave Miles, and all our Seniors, , hope we fill Roos Field, and send them off with a "BIG BANG"   Go Eagles!!!!!Vic Wallace p.s. Just think what is waiting us for next year. It is very scary already. Injured Players returning, and our Props?

Ranger,
Thanks for the correction on Forte. I think we have about 15 Seniors, and two are applying for another year namely, Zach Johnson, Tyler Hart. Is Jordan Talley Hurt?. Didn't hear is name mentioned much yesterday. I did hear his name mentioned for the TD in overtime, unless it was mistake. Thanks for the info on the Oral Committment from the OL from Jusuit HS, in 2012. Let us hope he sticks with us, there were about 5 other schools interested in him. Vic Wallace

Adams brings a different dynamic than what we have had with Nichols and Mitchell. We haven't had a true scrambling QB since Meyer. Meyer didn't have the rocket arm like Nichols or BLM, but damn was he accurate and made a ton of plays outside the pocket.

I gotta think that Vitto will be the slight favorite going in Spring Camp, with Adams right there. I guess fortunately, we haven't seen much of either.

I'm not sure what happened with Nelson Fishback; I thought I saw him on the roster earlier in the season, but he's not there now.

That said, I am sure we will be recruiting another QB pretty heavily this year.

Pulu is still on track for next season that i am aware of. I think he loses a year of eligibility but should play for two years at ewu and agree he has huge upside we need him next year.

If Adams has the running ability like was on tape, he gives another dimension to our offensive plays. Similar to what DeNarius Mghee does for the Bobcats.Sac state's backup QB's also brought that dimension to the game yesterday in that they can design plays that are kind of option-Esq.
Not to write this year off because we still have good chance to make it into the playoffs, but next year is going to be really exciting.

An interesting formation would be a semi-wishbone with Vito and Vernon Adams in the backfield playing wildcat. You could do sooo much out of that and the defense would have no clue what to expect. A key would be a center that can hike in either direction accurately.

lol now that would be something to watch!

Tumwater’s Hanson commits
PREP FOOTBALL: T-Birds lineman Josh Hanson says he will play for Portland State Vikings

The 6-foot-7, 250-pound Hanson narrowed his choices to PSU and Eastern Washington, and made his commitment to the Vikings following their 43-26 victory over the Eagles last weekend at Roos Field in Cheney.
A lot of things came into play when he decided on Portland State, including the university’s engineering program, the team’s close-knit family atmosphere, and the coaching staff, particularly offensive line coach Brad Davis and coach Nigel Burton.

:? :ohno:

Everything I see shows Matthews has zero offers. I was told he definatly does not have one from UW

Yeah, I think you are right. I pulled that info off of ESPN which has him with all those offers: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/112469/alex-matthews" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Rivals and Scout aren't showing those offers, so I think the ESPN info is incorrect (surprise, surprise).

Updated as of 11/4. Had some time and was able to do a little more digging and found a few more offers as well as a few more Cali players that are being looked at.

Some recent recruiting news:

Latest on Matthews from Scout: http://recruiting.scout.com/2/1117630.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Matthews broke onto the national scene a couple weeks ago, throwing for six touchdowns against Jesuit (Ore.) in a game that was broadcast on ESPNU. Since the game, Matthews has felt a change in interest.

“Recruiting has definitely picked up, it was on ESPNU and great exposure,” said Matthews. “I have started hearing from Colorado, Vanderbilt, Eastern Washington, Utah, Montana, Montana State, Washington and Washington State.”

“Vanderbilt has been the school talking to me the most, we’ve been on the phone a bunch,” said Matthews. “Colorado has been sending a lot of emails.”

Matthews has been patient with the process throughout and explained his ability to stay focused on his senior season.

“I am a big team guy,” said Matthews. “I don’t focus on putting up stats or worry about recruiting. If I take care of business on Friday nights, then things will take care of themselves.”

WR Najee Lovett from Berkley, CA getting some interest from EWU. From Scout: http://jcfootball.scout.com/2/1074074.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Recruiting has been pretty steady for Lovett since the start of spring and he's got several programs interested in what he can do on the football field.

"Eastern Washington has been trying to get me up for a visit and if they offer, they want me this summer so I can be there for the fall," Lovett said. "I'm looking at it. They are a great team and they could be a good option for me, but if not then I will come back for my sophomore season and then leave after that."

In addition to the FCS National Champions, Lovett said he is also hearing from Washington State, Cal, Iowa State and Hawaii.

"All of them are spread teams, so that sorta fits what I do best," Lovett said. "I feel like I can play in any offense, but the spread fits me perfectly."

Blake Dutton Lands Major Offer From EWU:

Today the call came in from the National Champion Eastern Washington Eagles. And it was a big one for Dutton.
“I received my first offer today. It was from Eastern Washington,” he said clearly pumped up.
How did that make him feel?
“I am really excited. This is a terrific opportunity for me. I am just so thankful.”
The two way star for the Pacers has set the standards this year for Wide Receivers and has been equally tough in the defensive secondary. But last week against Oregon City as his life long pal and QB Tommy Knecht went down with a broken hand Blake stepped it up big time. He went in at QB and took the game against the very solid Oregon City Pioneers to the wire. He racked up almost 400 yards in the process just showing he can do it all.
But where did this sudden interest from EWU come from?
“You know I sent them my film, and they were shocked that no one had jumped on me yet. They really liked my versatility and believed that I fit their offensive scheme perfectly,” he said.
“They usually dont hand out scholarships until January, but they kept mentioning how excited they were about my play. So coach Baldwin let me know today that the offer is solid.”
So it is official.

So how is this fit for Dutton? Could this first major school be his best option?
“You know, I really respect their program. having said that I still am focusing on my Senior year at LHS, but I do really enjoy EWU and what they have to offer,” added Blake.
There was more. “I was recently offered a D1 scholarship for Lacrosse at University of Denver who was in the final 4 last year and they are the only Division 1 school West of the Mississippi (to offer it) so I have a lot of options, but I really like EWU at this point.”

Is Drew Sharkey- Ferris High a potential Eagle?
Any more info on this?

I'm not sure. I think the coaching staff goes about recruiting in a fairly hush-hush manner, understandably so. All of the information I've put together has either come from one of three recruiting sites or just articles on the internet. Plus the school cannot comment on any verbals. So all the information that's out there generally comes from players commenting on their interactions with School X or Y.

I'm not sure how many scholarships are going to be available this year. We're a pretty young team. That said, the few offers that have gone out definitely seem to be addressing a specific need.....I.E. QB, O-Line, WR, etc. You also have to consider that there are some kids in the program that are Redshirts or Greyshirts that will most likely work their way into scholarships next season, which cuts the available number of scholarships down even more. People are ranting and raving about PSU's recruiting class this year, and they definitely got a couple kids we were recruiting and had offered, but they seemed to have taken the approach of offering multiple kids early and have gotten lucky doing that. They probably have a lot of scholarships available. Montana is taking the same approach. With the limited scholarships available this season, I don't think we have that luxury, and I actually think we are being a lot more selective and only going hard after the kids that we really want playing for us next year.

As for Sharkey, I'm not sure how hard EWU is recruiting him. I'm sure one of the best players in the GSL is on their radar, though. According to Scout, he has an offer from Air Force and is also being recruited by Idaho, WSU, and Montana - though those schools have not offered, yet. I think we can always use a quality player like that and it probably doesn't hurt that his dad coached Jeff Minnerly and Jordan Tonani at Ferris, so I am sure there's some sort of rapport there as there is with the majority of the coaches in the GSL and indeed the State. We'll have to wait and see, but I'd love to see him playing in red.

Remember, the information from the recruiting sites comes from the kids themselves or their coaches, and usually someone from the recruiting site will call them and ask. Eastern, or any other school, doesn't have some press link to report offers and commits. In fact, it is an NCAA infraction to report that someone has "committed" before the LOI day.

WR Aaron Peck - Riverside, California North HS 6'3" 200

would love to see us continue the trend of getting big receivers! Boyce kaufman edwards herd now J. Boyce! along with some of the speedy slot backs we have had some great receivers. we need to continue getting big receivers that can run, I hope this kid signs with the eagles his video looks good.

Well, looks like Pinson is out. Kinda surpised, as I thought he'd have a shot at competing for a starting cb job this spring.
