***Deon Martin RB Stockdale HS (Bakersfield, CA) Visiting EWU this weekend, shows High Interest on Scout

Not to leave you hanging' there, but if the Eags signed this guy (which seems like a pretty good possibility), this kids' offer list would surely make him the biggest recruit in the Big Sky this year. The question that always looms though is grades. Hope they're alright. He did get offered by Berkeley however. This kid would look good running on the Inferno.

I was reading between the lines that Cal may have pulled their offer or he couldn't get into school. He was a Cal commit as of last Spring and just sort of fell through the cracks.

Coach McElwain must be visiting his old stomping grounds seeing that CSU is getting some decent talent out of the NW. The team that has me shocked is Idaho... they shouldn't be winning any recruiting battles. They've actually locked down 5-6 really good kids that they'd have likely drawn blanks with last year.

Don't tease!

I wonder if his injury scared teams off, just like Kaufman's? I'm assuming he got hurt, because he only played two games for Stockdale in '11. In those two games, he racked up 509 yards (coincidence? 8-) ), and 7 TDs... on only 24 carries. That's over 20 yards per touch, and a TD every 3 touches. FILTHY.

I can't find stats for this past season.

In 2011 Martin transferred in to Stockdale from some alternative school, after two games was found ineligible, they had to forfeit the two wins, and he didn't get back on the field; 2012???

Ahhh, I see. I was wondering why they had to forfeit those two beatdowns.

Definitely not teasing. Take a gander at his scout.com profile. I do this stuff on my phone and I find it hard to link stuff up here. And I have a terrible desktop that has office 2007 and that's all I use it for. But google "Deon Martin Scout" his profile will come up and you can see his school interests. One school stands out.

He would be a huge get for us, and potentially the next game changer at RB that we've been lacking since TJ. If he plays as a true freshman, imagine him and Vernon for the next 3 years. If we did nab him, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he did play right away. He's certainly no stranger to the weight room at 5'9 and 209lbs. Any idea of his 40 time?

Nic Sblendorio - WR - Skyline High - 6'0", 193 Pounds (EWU/Northern Colorado)

Oregon

Xavier Griggs - RB/DB - Central Catholic, 6'0", 225 Pounds (EWU/PSU)
Kendrick Bourne - WR - Milwauki, 6'2", 185 Pounds

California

Khari McGee *** - QB - Edison, 6'2", 200 Pounds (EWU/San Jose State/Oregon State)
Andre Lindsey, Jr. - WR - Stockton - 6'3", 185 Pounds (EWU/Sac State)
Julian Yearwood - LB - San Jacinto - 6'1", 230 Pounds (EWU)

Hard to get good data on these. Scout does show LB Julian Yearwood as High Interest EWU and no other offers. Looks like a JC player. Hoping Deon Martin, the three star RB, has a good visit this weekend. I think he had some grade issue's but it sounded like EWU stuck with him and helped him get through the NCAA Clearing house stuff and he was greatful. I like our current stock of RB's and a little competition from a talented newcomer might catapult one or more of them to the next level.

Love what Deon says at the bottom of the Scout article "I really like Eastern Washington and that’s where I want to go. I haven’t committed yet but if the visit goes well this weekend, there’s a good chance I’ll do it. Like I said, for me, it’s about being loyal and those coaches have stuck with me the whole season and I’m excited to play for them and I’ll give them everything" "It feels good to finally have a home.”

Sweet :-)

Thoughts on getting Khari McGee? OSU picked up a very good QB out of Ohio last week, not sure Khari is still in the hunt there. San Jose St doesn't show a QB signed yet. All this per Scout. Would be a good get.

#15 Andrew Elffers QB 6'3" 205

Anyone know the story here? EWU has offered per Scout, as has UNLV and Idaho. Idaho has at least two QB commits (one JC) and UNLV just picked up Jared Lebowitz (nice looking prospect) at QB. sibebar-- you got to hand it to hauck, unlv played a lot tougher last year and this years class looks good on talent.

Doesn't look like Elffers has anywhere else to go and he is a big armed gunslinger who runs the read option a little bit too. :thumb:

That's very promising. I'm not an insider... any chance you could post the whole article or PM it to me? :D

Found his 2012 stats:
http://www.maxpreps.com/athletes/qI4tS-8A-EeDSfuSG1IscQ/football-fall-12/stats-dj-martin.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

206 carries for 1824 yards (8.85), 23 TDs, with 6 fumbles, but only 2 lost. Their team had no passing game whatsoever, so defenses were likely keying on him a lot more.

So he was eligible in 2012. If academics was an issue, and he stayed eligible in his senior year that is a sign he is maturing. He sounds like a thoughtful kid. Sounds like Baldwin and other EWU coaches have fostered a solid tie with him. It seems like EWU is the type of program that will further his maturation and allow him to develop academically and on the football field. I hope he selects the EAGS. Either way, I hope Deon finds the best fit for him.

Highlights:Pound for pound one of the strongest players in the country; dominated on the camp circuit beating every offensive lineman in Oregon and Washington..Probably the MVP for all defensive players in the NW on the line..500+ Bench, and an absolute baller…UW Showcase event was incredible in front of all the D1′s..3 year starter, 2 time all league kid

Knocks: Height; That said I have not seen a more dominant kid on the line in the last half decade..He is the very rare exception that can play D1 ball at 5-10.

Looked like the FCS Warren Sapp in a couple of years potentially... Kluge is a beast.

I read somewhere he's headed to WOU.

This would be a huge get. It would be huge if he could play right away, but from reading the articles it sounds like he may have to sit out a year. Then again, if Houston is also offering him, maybe not. Interesting, sounds like he's got a real solid relationship with the coaching staff at Eastern.

RB Deon Martin By Greg Biggins
National Recruiting Analyst
Posted Jan 28, 2013

It has been a whirlwind recruitment for Bakersfield (Calif.) Stockdale running back Deon Martin but it could be coming to an end very shortly.

Deon Martin, who goes by D.J., was the state sophomore of the year by CalHiSports and was off to a fast start as a junior before an injury cut short his season in week three. He made an early commitment to California but academic issues caused not only the Bears, but just about every other top program he was hearing from, to back off.
There was never a question about Martin’s talent level. At Sunday nights West Coast Bowl featuring some of the state’s top running backs including Lavon Coleman, Zachary Green and Gerard Wicks, it was Martin who had the best game and had several big runs.

Martin has the speed to run outside and the power to run between the tackles. He was tough to bring down and is always falling forward on every carry. He’s a downhill runner with a burst and very good top end speed as well and is easily among the most dynamic backs in the region.

“I wish I would have scored in the game but I had a great time,” Martin said. “I loved being out there competing with other top players in the region. There was a lot of great competition so to be able to come out and play well was a blessing and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

On the recruiting front, Martin will take his first official visit of the year this coming weekend and a decision will likely soon follow.

“I’m going to visit Eastern Washington,” Martin said. “I’m really excited and have a great relationship with the coaching staff. The head coach and running back came over to my house and I really feel loyal to those guys. They helped me get through the Clearinghouse and I know they have my back.

“Houston and a few others are still recruiting me and I’m sure a few more will come in as well but I really like Eastern Washington and that’s where I want to go. I haven’t committed yet but if the visit goes well this weekend, there’s a good chance I’ll do it. Like I said, for me, it’s about being loyal and those coaches have stuck with me the whole season and I’m excited to play for them and I’ll give them everything I have. It feels good to finally have a home.”

Looks like a man already in this picture...

Saw it on NW Preps too. Never know what other baggage might be attached to these propects from the recruit sites. Don't know that EWU ever made him an offer either. There seem to be a lot of talented guys with the measureables this year, might be hard to justify an offer to someone who isn't going to grow any more and doesn't have classical measurements. Pure speculation here. It's how we think in the south. For my part, I loved what little I saw and would have liked to see him play at the Inferno with his attitude.

Good catch Ranger. Here is an article in the Pasadena Sun. Kid is out of Arcardia, just down the road from Pasadena. The Azusa Pacific campus is very close to where he lives and is a private Christian college with the motto "God First Since 1899". :thumb:
