2013 Recruiting: 17 Verbals

Sammie Long ? The lean and mean speedster has the hands and skill set to play in the Pac 12. UW had his committment early and apparently have over extended offers at the WR spot. As of 1/15/13 he is looking at all options. Sammie can be the pick up of the year for someone.

Ranger-- where are you getting your info on outstanding offers? Is it from the staff, or just what is reported to rivals, scout, et al.? I have to imagine there are several more outstanding offers than just the handful noted in the list.

Undoubtedly. This list is just what's reported on Scout, Rivals, ESPN, and Northwestprepreport (probably the best one). I am sure there are not only more offers out there, but more commits as well (California).

West Salem senior Matt Sommer has committed to play football in college at Eastern Washington, West Salem coach Shawn Stanley confirmed Thursday.

Sommer, a 6-foot-4, 310 pound offensive tackle and defensive end, had offers from Wyoming, Portland State, Montana, Northern Colorado and Montana State.

He was the Central Valley Conference defensive player of the year as a senior and was second-team all-league in his junior and sophomore seasons.

As a senior Sommer had six sacks and eight pass defensed along with 46 tackles.
Sommer will have a National Letter of Intent signing ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at West Salem’s library.

I don't follow the recruiting stuff as much as you guys but a couple of thoughts...

1) I know these are highlights, but Lakes passing game looked awfully good for a high school team

2) His website and videos worked really well

3) He's got the size (6'4") and it looks like he has great hands. :thumb:

He has offers from both Nevada and Colorado State. Although I don't think there's anything official, I think it's pretty safe to say he will be going to one of those two places. I think northwestprepreports.com has him verballed to Nevada. Still, anything can happen.

Cool, I just removed a few guys who previously had offers that committed elsewhere. Read a couple things which stated there's a good chance Bourne and Sbledario could be coming to EWU, good stuff, especially if Tate ends up going to SJSU (hope not)...

Tate down to two:

Federal Way (Wash.) wide receiver Mike Tate had a busy month with scheduled visits to Eastern Washington, Idaho and Portland State.
“I didn’t end up visiting Idaho, the weekend before they got two junior college commits at receiver,” said Tate. “Portland State, it was good, it was fun. I like the campus and the people. I love coach Coop, their wide receiver coach and coach Burton makes you want to commit just listening to him talk.”

While Portland State was enjoyable, it was the visit to Eastern Washington that stood out.

“For the past two weeks now I have been committed to Eastern,” said Tate. “Going out there I knew I loved the coaching staff. I love coach Baldwin. Coach Adams is an amazing coach personally and position wise. I am comfortable because I know a lot of the players on the team. It seemed like a good family atmosphere.”

Tate didn’t head to Eastern alone, his teammates cornerback D'Londo Tucker and middle linebacker Albert Havili also made commitments to the Eagles.

Tate was done with the recruiting process, until a familiar face reached out to him.

“After that I thought I was done. But coach Dougherty, who was at Washington, is new the new offensive coordinator at San Jose State," said Tate. "He wants me to come on a visit, which is what I am going to do. They are not 100% on an offer yet, but if it was up to him it is done. The head coach wants to see me and talk to me.”

So what would it take for Tate to switch his commitment?

“I don’t know,” said Tate. “I would have to see the campus and talk to the people, really get to know the coaching staff. I don't know my positional coach, I talked to him for the first time just a little bit ago".

Hopefully Havili and Tucker, along with all the other West-side guys on the team will talk some sense into him and keep him committed to EWU. FBS bottom feeder, or FCS powerhouse with all of your friends? Not a hard choice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2HGibvkH0c" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Highlights:Pound for pound one of the strongest players in the country; dominated on the camp circuit beating every offensive lineman in Oregon and Washington..Probably the MVP for all defensive players in the NW on the line..500+ Bench, and an absolute baller…UW Showcase event was incredible in front of all the D1′s..3 year starter, 2 time all league kid

Knocks: Height; That said I have not seen a more dominant kid on the line in the last half decade..He is the very rare exception that can play D1 ball at 5-10.

According to the Fresno Bee Central LB Tramell Johnson may be headed to EWU.

Looked like the FCS Warren Sapp in a couple of years potentially... Kluge is a beast.
