2013 Recruiting Thread

Kingco 3A Offensive Player of the Year Trent Riley adds second D1 offer from Portland State

http://www.northwesteliteindex.com/2013/01/23/riley-second-offer/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I will reiterate what I said earlier in the year, as I would venture to say that Trent Riley (6-3 205 Sr. WR) of Mount Si could be the biggest steal of this 2013 class. Riley’s senior season saw him put up monster numbers grabbing 56 catches for 876 yards and 22 total touchdowns. His statistics were staggering as he had 2 pick 6′s, and 2 punt returns for Tds as well.

Riley is one of the state’s best basketball players, and currently has a brother playing D1 ball at the University of Portland. Mount Si finished (11-2) this past season, with both losses coming to maybe the nations #1 team in Bellevue. It was the best Wildcat team in school history and Trent had a lot to do with that.

Referencing the Portland State offer Trent says, “I was really excited I liked the coaching staff a lot, and I am looking forward to taking a visit there”. Riley continued, “Its nice to get an offer close to home and its going to be a tough decision coming up with PSU and a few other schools”.

Trent will have options as he is being heavily recruited for basketball, with additional D1-AA and mid major D1′s football schools potentially offering as signing day draws near.

Riley is the real deal and would be a phenomenal safety at the next level as well. He gives schools options due to his overall athleticism. If PSU or a similar school lands him someone should get a bonus. Trent was an all league WR as a sophomore, before missing his junior season with an injury. He’s a great kid and someone that we look forward to following moving forward.

Keep in mind that most of these offers have been to non-committed top prospects and the Viks are competing with a number of FBS programs for these players - JUST AS IT SHOULD BE !

If I missed someone or screwed something up let me know. I can add and delete to this list as we learn more.

According to the Orange County Register RB Nate Tago is visiting PSU this weekend.

That reference has Tago ast both 5'10" and 6' 210 lbs. Whichever. He picked up 1700 yards rushing last year. Not bad.He's being recruited heavily - we'd be lucky to get him.

Lynden Star Josh Kraght Lands Vikings Offer And Commits

http://www.northwestprepreport.com/josh-kraght-heads-to-psu-after-vikings-offer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Josh Kraght of Lynden High School could not have been a bigger High School star. He won 2 Championships as their starting QB with his Lions and he simply showcased all the skills you have to have to win. Up until this weekend he was still without an offer.

Then came the visit to Portland State. A school who has been watching him and all of the top guys up and down the I-5 Corridor. They had a few Juniors in to meet and greet the last few days before signing day. Josh was one of them.

So when they offered him after he had a chance to look it over he was excited. This is what he has wanted. An opportunity to compete and to play for a school like PSU.

According to Kraght he will be able to compete for the QB spot. Something he has wanted to do even though many people like to label him as an “athlete”. That is only because he is so accomplished and has the full skill set to play corner, slot, or QB.

How is he feeling about all of this?

“Yeah it’s a full scholarship! And I am going to be competing from the beginning and seeing what happens after that,” said a happy Lion. ”I am Very excited and blessed. The Coaches are awesome here. From the top down they are all loyal and guys who are committed to this University first and the football program. Also the players here are very fun to be around and are good people. The City of Portland is awesome and I can’t wait to get down here!”

Kraght may be 5’11″- 180 pounds but is such a play maker. He makes great reads, has a great arm, and the kid can run and is fearless. Most of all he is a leader on the field.

He reminds us a lot of Connor Kavanaugh who was a terrific PSU Quarter Back with the same size and ability. So Kraght is going to join a growing stable of QB’s fighting for the right to be the PSU starter.

Congrats to Josh and to PSU for another great hook up!

Defensive end Davond Dade of Encino (CA) Crespi has committed to Portland State. He's the sixth Crespi player to make a college commitment.

Nice. Looks like we beat out Youngstown State and Old Dominion.

Mater Dei All-County linebacker J.C. Genova (6-0, 200) will make an official recruiting trip this weekend to Portland State, the senior reports.

Portland State will be the first official recruiting trip for Genova, who could project to play safety or outside linebacker. The FCS school has offered Genova a scholarship.

The Vikings suffered a few close losses en route to a 3-8 record in 2012.

Word on the street is that Xavier Coleman from Jesuit could be making an official visit to PSU this weekend. Apparently this kid is the real deal and if the VIks can get him committed they will have scored big time. He is being overlooked because of the health issues outlined in the article below.

On his twitter page: "Just committed to Portland State. Thank you to everyone who has supported me. Its been a journey!"

What an experience this young man has gone through. Seems like a high character individual. From a football standpoint, I like his speed! :D
