Good for him.

I don't see the advantage of verballing early. I know that there is a myth that by verballing early you are effectively take a lot of pressure off of yourself, but at the same time, a school doesn't see a verbal as a solid commitment. If NMSU finds another player who is better they will drop Boyd, probably won't happen, I don't know why anyone would want to live in Las Cruces New Mexico, and use the Vaughn Autry excuse, the "We never offered him a scholarship" line. Also, there are other, perhaps, better schools who might want him. Granted, his verbal isn't solid either and he can back out at anytime till he signs of LOI.

Best time to verbal? Early September before you sign in November. About the time when Loveridge will verbal to Weber. :rockon:

Eric Mika

"Guards Nick Emery and T.J. Haws are obviously the prized recruits coming out of Quincy Lewis's Knights program, but junior transfer center Eric Mika isn't too far off. Mika, who played his first two years at Waterford, played with the Knights throughout the summer.

Weber State and Utah State recently became the first two schools to offer the 6-foot-8 center."

UHSAA denies Lone Peak center Eric Mika eligibility after transfer

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/tribpreps/52653064-190/mika-lone-peak-association.html.csp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"Junior Eric Mika was denied eligibility Wednesday by the Utah High School Activities Association after a panel determined Mika’s transfer from 2A Waterford wasn’t precipitated by a hardship."

"With Waterford last year, Mika averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds. He has offers from Utah State and Weber State."

Tough deal for Mika... I hope the UHSAA reconsiders. Lone Peak though...hmmm, that might be the biggest reason why.

Lone Peak’s Eric Mika unlikely to play after judge’s ruling

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/tribpreps/52896416-190/basketball-mika-court-evans.html.csp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"The result is that one of the state’s best basketball players — Mika has offers to play at Utah State and Weber State — is not allowed to marry his talents with a team that is already one of the state’s most talented."

SAN ANTONIO, TX —
Brennan High School point guard John Azzinaro is quickly gaining attention from several Division One college programs.

The 5-11, pure point guard is one of the best 2013 prospects now in Texas. Azzinaro moved to Texas from Pennsauken, New Jersey, his freshman year and has made a fine adjustment, being a pass-first point guard that can control the game and score the ball when needed.

Azzinaro averaged 17 points per game last season as a sophomore and soon after blasted off in front of hundreds of college coaches at the Full Court Press All West Camp in July ran by Dinos Trigonis. Out of 300 prospects, Azzinaro was selected to the Top 75 game, and several scouts thought he should’ve been included in the Top 20.

He took an unofficial visit to Bucknell and Oregon State in August and both programs have high interest in Azzinaro, who maintains a 4.0 grade point average.

At this time no offers have been made, but this fall several schools have visited and contacted him: Oregon State, Weber State, Bucknell, Wichita State, Utah State, Houston, Washington State and Albany.

We have a full year to evaluate tallent and compile our lists. We will have three scholarships, two guards and a big. This class will include at least one guard and one big. We won't have any glaring needs, but will want to bring in players who are a step up from what we already have in the program. If we can't get players who are better than what we have, we can take players equal to what we have, but only if we have to. This could definately be a year that we leave one open throughout the summer. We are recruiting from a position of strength. I don't think we will look at any JCs unless they are future NBA players. Whoever we recruit for the 2013 class, If they can earn any significant playing time, they will truly be great players. Personally, I am ready for this, next step. :clap:

We are very good now. We will be better next year. And, if we play our cards right, we can take the next step after that. :thumb:

The next step, going from perenial conf. champs to making noise at the dance, is the hardest step to take. We may have already taken a mini step toward this, with this last signing class. If you look at how Gonzaga, and some others like them, got to the next level, it's finding and signing the NBA type bigs. They are, usually, harder to get than guards. Sometimes, you have to get lucky and have a kid grow into it after you get him on campus, like a David Johnson, or David Robinson. :coffee:

Thanks to Jon for this one:

2013 5-8 PG Jalen Smith Langham Creek (TX) is gaining interest from Weber State, Southern Illinois, Wichita State and Northern Iowa.

At this point in the process, anybody and everybody is on our list. You don't want to waist time and money on lost causes. On the other hand, you want to ask the questions and get solid answers from potential A list players. Lists will be added to and subtracted from several times before spring, before summer, and before fall. Unless we get three A list players to sign in the fall, expect one spot to be left open at least until spring and maybe into the summer of 2013. I have said it before, we don't have to sign anyone to be a good team. However, we want to sign players who will help make us better. I expect bigger and better. I don't expect any projects or that we would go after anybody who is less skilled than what we already have. I know that sounds like a lot to ask, but there is no sideways in sports. You are either getting better or you are getting worse. That is just how it is. :coffee: :twocents: :thumb: :nod:
