He can definitely shoot, pass, and drive the basketball. I wish I could see his defense. I'm guessing, since he is from Canada that he isn't getting a lot of love. Does he play AAU in the states? His stock could go up if he does.

Okay...so after doing some more research this guy could be one of the top scorers in the class of 2013. He is freaky good from outside and has ability to penetrate and drive to keep defenses honest. From what I have seen, he has some wicked passing abilities too. He can really create off the dribble and get open looks for his teammates. He has Nash like skills. He had an offer from Rice for 2012, but decided to take the prep school route instead. It is shocking that he only has four offers. I don't think its a lack of exposure. Is it his size? He is 6-2, but only 165 according to multiple websites. Is he streaky, or does he not have all the necessary intangibles to be thoroughly successful at the DI level? He does a little slow, but makes up for that with deadly outside shooting. He would be a nice replacement for Bamforth. He along with Jaleen Smith might be exactly what the Cats need in the Fall Signing.

I think that our fall signing class will include one big and one guard. What that means to potential recruits is that they shouldn't wait too long to make a commitment, if they are truely interested in Weber State. The opportunity may not be there if they hesitate. Also, I don't see us going to the JC ranks for this class, unless they had the potentail for a huge impact. I feel that any JC player that didn't commit early would drop off of our radar quickly. If this Clair kid is interested in WSU, he shouold be making his mind up by mid summer. Any later and he is risking someone else taking that spot. :thumb:

Great to have you and others keeping up on all the classes. You mentioned Jared Stutzman of Idaho. I guess he is part Utahan because he plays on Utah Pump and Run AAU team and has made quite a name for himself in Idaho. Here is a clip I found on Youtube.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fb10KcmXiAs&feature=related" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

One site said Stutzman may play or redshirt a year then mission. Could be wearing a Weber jersey in two years!

Stutzman already has a Utah offer and is openly pining for one from BYU. If the Cougars offer, there's not much doubt that's where he's headed.

"What I like about Coach Rose and all his assistants is that they are real honest with me,” Stutzman said. “They don’t give me lip service, and you can trust what they say. You also know that BYU will always follow the recruiting rules to the letter. I can’t say that about all the programs that have tried to recruit me.”

Stutzman, who is LDS, has two current offers from the University of Utah and Weber State. He’s hoping that BYU will also be included on the list of schools that have offered.

“BYU is a unique place,” said Stutzman. “It is a culture school and I like their style of play. They like to push the ball and always recruit kids that can run and shoot the ball."

You are right Olds. From the look of things, to me at least, Weber is looking for a F and a SG...I'm guessing that Rahe would really like to land a F who can play both the 3 and 4 positions, or a guy who is very similar to Mook. George King looks like he could end up filling the need that will be opened by Mook. I got mistaken, Jaleen Smith plays the same position as Clair we can't take both. Also, don't forget that Fuller 6-7 gets home 1 year from next week and that Van Pelt 6-11 will be home a year after that.

One site said Stutzman may play or redshirt a year then mission. Could be wearing a Weber jersey in two years!

Stutzman already has a Utah offer and is openly pining for one from BYU-UT. If the Cougars offer, there's not much doubt that's where he's headed.

"What I like about Coach Rose and all his assistants is that they are real honest with me,” Stutzman said. “They don’t give me lip service, and you can trust what they say. Utah State has also given Stutzman an offer. Problem with B..Y..U is that they don't have room for him, and Rose has openly worried about whether or not he has the intangibles needed to be successful at the DI level. If Rahe thinks he does, well then, he does. Rahe was recruiting Loveridge for almost a year before Rose jump in and offered the Utah bound Tweener. Funny about Loveridge, he went to the school that recruited him least. Oh, I'm not 100% sure who the school is that Stutzman is talking about, but I wouldn't doubt it being Boise.

But...you are probably right. The Aggies seem to agree with you too, if Rose offers, Stutzman is gone. He might go without an offer. Heaven's B..Y..U can offer players on their missions, and they do frequently. But would you blame him? Rose is a great coach.

I love this time of the year. Everybodies recruiting lists are long and fluid. Over the next two or three months coaches will offer some and cross others off their lists, players will show interest and, likewise, cross schools off their lists. some will get a lot of action, and others will get very little. There will be completely unknown players rise up to be heavily recruited. Others will start the summer high on lists only to have their stock drop like a rock. Unless you are Duke or UNC, your list will probably change 20 times over the summer. There is always a Damian Lillard out there. One who chooses a school because it fits him best and not because of all the hype and presure.

What I really want to see is players and coaches making the right choices, and because they have, staying and being happy and successful on the court and in the classroom. I know that is a pipe dream, but that should be the goal. :twocents:

Let the recruiting games begin.

Clair received all four of those offers on just one day this week, or last week. Had to be at an AAU tourny somewhere. He'll get more.

Yeah, I'm sure he will. I'm thinking the chances of actually getting this kid will become less and less as the summer goes on. :?

Coach Rahe has offered 6-8 Ted Friedman of Ankey Iowa: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Ted-Friedman-128047;_ylt=Aqj7VuzOcPM_XdomM52Z5QzXO5B4?colleges=show#college_choices" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

After his junior year he is the #2 player in Iowa and top 100 PF in the nation. Wouldn't be a bad addition. He looks like a solid recruit.

Other schools: Drake, Northern Iowa, St. Louis (offered), Wisconsin, Nebraska, Virginia, and Creighton (Interested).

Some other players the Cats are interested in...

Austin Ruder 6-3 SG MO. http://www.maxpreps.com/athletes/TywBQiNedUKI4ApFbuZVLQ/basketball-winter-11-12/profile-austin-ruder.htm..." onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. #2 player in MO.
Luke Worthington 6-8 235 (he is being recruited for football too; Weber might steal another one)
Cody Stetler 6-8
Zachary Brown 6-6 SG Texas
Jalen Norman 6-5 F
Austin Luke 6-3 SG

Just for kicks 2014
Sam Merrill Bountiful 6-3 SG
Brekkot Chapman Roy (Catcats paradise) 6-9 PF

Does anyone have an accurate list of players Weber has made offers too?

I know of:

Jaleen Smith PG
Joe Boyd F
George King F
Brett Jolley F/C
Jonah Legg? W
John Azzinaro? PG
Khory Ross? W
Race Parsons? SG
Jordan Darger ? SG

Updated list:
Jaleen Smith CG
Joe Boyd F
George King F
Manroop Clair W
Ted Friedman PF
Brett Jolley PF

So, is the next Damian Lillard, Bruce Collins, Willy Sojourner, or Jimmy DeGraphenried on that list? Or, are they still out there waiting to be discovered?

Honestly, the door is open for someone to come in here and take over the throne. I would think it is quite enticing for a top player to come in and fill that void. Someone to carry our banner. Someone to be the next first round draft pick from WSU. :thumb:

In a weird turn of events, Clair has decided to graduate early and just committed to Hawaii, class of 2012.

Brady Borkland, a 6'8" post from Bonneville HS, class of 2012, is on an official visit to Weber State today.

Sounds like Borkland will be a preferred walk on. Weber has all of their 2012 scholies spoken for.

Clair...hmmm...well, great addition for the Rainbow warriors. Good luck to him. I'm sure he will have a good career.

I don't know. Even though it's just a highlight video, after watching his, Clair doesn't appear to be very quick. Good shooter, but quite slow. He doesn't seem to be the type of 2G you guys usually get.

Looks like Borkland, Parsons, and Van Dyke got some attention at the NorCal Spring Showcase in San Francisco last weekend. 40 teams = approx 320 athletes... Borkland-top 150, Parsons top-25 and Van Dyke top-5 according to Gerry Frietas Scouting Service. http://www.hoopreview.net/events.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Awesome!! No matter where these guys go, it is good to see that they are playing well and getting the notice they have earned, and deserve. Thanks for the link Bleacher.

I'll be honest, I haven't heard a lot about Borkland, but that isn't a bad thing, it is probably because he spent a good part of his SR year injured, and was a bit of a late blooming JR. From what I have seen, he has a lot of upside and would fit in well in Rahe's system; he is tough, works hard, and has a high BBall IQ. He is definitely rough and needs good coaching, but with it, he will come a long way. Not saying Bonneville's coaching staff is bad, just saying that with time, solid consistent direction, and some development Borklund could really develop. I'm not sure he is a scholarship type player now, but he could earn one. If anything, he could get a year of DI experience as a RS.

Van Dyke...isn't he already a Ute? I thought he had verballed to LK? I could be wrong. I know a handful of Aggies, not all, have him pencilled in going to Utah. He is a solid athlete.

Parsons...personally, like I've said before, I think this kid is being under-rated, due to his high school level, but what is great to see is no matter the competition, he plays the same and experiences the same amount of success. Vs. Manti, Fremont, or an AAU team full of DI prospects at Summer tournaments, Parsons continues to show why he should be considered one of the best prospects in Utah. Yes, he has a way to go, but what is great about Parsons is that he has a way to go. You want players who are good that can develop into being great. I think he is that type of person and athlete.

Borklund has a ways to go, but has some potential. He is not very tough inside, and can get pushed around pretty good, quite passive. On the flip side he has nice touch around the basket, runs the floor pretty well. He is a very good shooter, including behind the arc. For a big man he can shoot the 3 for sure. He's a good kid. Probably a walk-on RS, & a mission just like Van Pelt.

Can't only complain about the Wildcat Club. There is more to Weber State sports than a defunct club. Hey so, Austin Ruder would have been nice, but he verballed to Mo State last week. A friend told me about a player the coaches are high on: Darien Williams.
