2013 Recruits

Great to have you and others keeping up on all the classes. You mentioned Jared Stutzman of Idaho. I guess he is part Utahan because he plays on Utah Pump and Run AAU team and has made quite a name for himself in Idaho. Here is a clip I found on Youtube.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fb10KcmXiAs&feature=related" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

One site said Stutzman may play or redshirt a year then mission. Could be wearing a Weber jersey in two years!

Parsons commetted to SUU. That is a good spot for him. :thumb:
Parsons hasn't committed. He was offered by SUU. Robinson watched him the first chance he could. He must have liked what he seen as he offered him that day.

Got an offer from SUU, and it seems both Weber State and Utah State are also showing some interest - http://www.bigskybball.com/2012/04/race-parsons-gets-offer-from-southern.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Grand father and father both played there, luke warm interest from some other programs, SUU is a great place for him. The Trib makes it sound like a foregone conclusion.

You know about as much as the trib! His grandfather played at the Y, not SUU. He is also 6'4", not 6'1" as the article stated. He didn't play PG last year, but did as a Soph. He just played where they needed him. Foregone conclusion? I doubt it. ;-) I don't know where you are getting your info, but according to other sources he is receiving more than "Luke warm" interest. Time will tell. :-D

Bleacher;

Sounds like you know this young man, personally. I'm sure that he is a great kid. I hope he has success where ever he goes. From the way it sounds, nobody in this state will have a chance at him. Maybe he should hold out for Kentucky or Duke. Better yet, skip the University life altogether and go right to the NBA allstar game. :nod:

Oldrunner,

I do know him personally and he is a great kid. You are right about SUU perhaps being a great fit for him. All I was doing was setting some facts straight that were incorrect in the posted article.

Bill Oram once again proves how little he truly knows about journalism. Remember last year, Bill refused to mention Weber State as a serious candidate in the Loveridge drama. Even when Loveridge cut his schools down to 4 he only mentioned 3 of the 4. Why would you believe anything from Oram?

Next, the Trib knows absolutely nothing; especially if it is connected to a school other than the U or Y. I'm beyond shocked that they took the time to publish something about SUU. Nick Robinson has subtle Utah connections, and that might be the real reason behind the trib printing information about SUU. Also, sorry about this Olds, but from my perspective it doesn't seem like, even in that poorly written article, that Parson's committed. He was offered a scholarship and is probably going to get a few more before the end of the summer. Of course he is on our radar. If Tyler Ott was on our Radar, then it is a foregone conclusion that Parson's is also on our Radar. By the way, I bet anything that Ott doesn't return to UC Davis after him mission. Great place to get an education though.

I think Parson's would be a great addition to our program. He has all the necessary elements to be succesful in Ogden: Tough, hardworker, great ball control, good defender, and a leader. Yes, he isn't quite where he needs to be now, but he can get there. Just because he is at South Sevier doesn't mean he won't be a DI players. Look at the history of Weber State athletes. A lot of our stars came from smaller schools. Our all-time leading scorer was from Rock Springs. As were a number of our top 10. Parson's, to me, is a diamond in the rough. To me he is as good as Nick Emery. Yes, I went there.

I don't know. I've seen both Emery and Parsons play and right now Emery is the much better player, even though he's a crybaby. This AAU season, which has just started, will be Parson's chance to shine and show that his game is better than it shows in HS ball. That he can run the point, or shoot it well enough to play 2G against much tougher competition than 2A. Arizona State has been to S. Sevier to see him a couple of times, but no offer from them as of now.

I agree with you about Ott. It wouldn't be a surprise to see him not return to UC Davis after his mission and end up at Dixie State. Tyrell Corbin from West just transferred out of UC Davis after a year.

You are right Tal. I was being overly sarcastic. And, the Trib is a homer paper. Many good players come from small communities. Bruce C, I believe, only had two offers, us and USU. Jimmy D was in that boat as well. We have also had the other thing happen with kids. They come out of HS highly reguarded only to fall flat in D1 ball. It's really a crap shoot. It will be quite interesting to see how he does in AAU ball this summer.
The other thing that may happen with Race is that he may still grow a bit. His skills in a 6'6'' + body may open a few more doors for him. Many kids continue to grow after HS. I just need to learn to be more positive. :nod:

One thing that the coaching staff must focus on is rebounding, leadership/glue type players, and toughness. Of course, we need guys who are going to buy into a team concept. I'm worried about the coaching staff trying to find talent and not guys who will fit into a role. Individualism, with all the talent in the world, would turn Weber into Portland State.

Oh George, yes, you are right. Nick is the better player, but there are intangibles that Race brings to the court that Emery doesn't or wont; not being a cry baby is huge. One major issue is that Emery plays like he is entitled to something. He is starting to look like a "I come before the team" type of guy, and acts like the Lone Peak Jimmer. Granted, Race is the top player at his level, and has to take over games for South Sevier to succeed, but he plays more like Lillard. I'd rather take a guy who works hard and has a chip on his shoulder over a cry baby. I could be wrong and if I am please put me in my place. ;-)

Nice clip weberdog. I would love to have Stutzman come to Weber. It would be pure bliss if he committed early to Weber.

George King 6-5 F 2013...has an offer from Weber State. He is from Houston Texas.

Also, two players from San Antonio have been repeatedly evaluated by Weber State. 6-6 F DJ Macleay and 6-1 PG Mike Williams

Finally, Granger's Isaiah Tademy 6-5 F was, at one point, on Weber's radar.

Tademy signed with Central Wyoming Community College, he and Tannar Newbold both signed with CWC. These are two players the Cats need to keep an eye on.

Yikes!! I totally missed that. Tademy had a hand injury for most of the year, that probably limited his recruitment. To bad. I really like Isaiah, he was over shadowed by a number of other athletes, but showed a lot of potential. A couple years at JC won't be bad for him.

As for George King...http://www.maxpreps.com/athletes/6wwJlmULLUKQQI1c-5LRYA/basketball-winter-11-12/stats-george-king.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looks like he is a late bloomer. Good for Weber.

Does anyone have an accurate list of players Weber has made offers too?

I know of:

Jaleen Smith PG
Joe Boyd F
George King F
Brett Jolley F/C
Jonah Legg? W
John Azzinaro? PG
Khory Ross? W
Race Parsons? SG
Jordan Darger ? SG

Manroop is impressive. From his highlight video, he looks like a less developed version of Mike Brown. If he gets in the wieght room and developes a little more strength, he could be a really good prospect. He does have a good stroke and handles the ball well. People in Canada are billing him as the next Jimmer. :lol:

If "the next Jimmer" means dominates the ball, selfish, excessive volume shooter to get his points type of player, then please NO!
