2013 Season

Since next season might actually be exciting to talk about for once, let's discuss. We don't know the full schedule, but the Big Sky slate looks like this:

Southern Utah
@ Sacramento State
@ Idaho State
UC Davis
BYE
Montana State
@ North Dakota
@ Northern Arizona
Cal Poly

Also, we get 4 non-conference games next year instead of three, I know one is at Wyoming and if memory serves we go to Northern Iowa as well. I'd assume we'll host a D2 somewhere, and I don't know about the fourth game. Thoughts? Expectations?

Northern Iowa should be an interesting game. They lost to North Dakota State but beat the 2 South Dakota teams. They seem to be on a similar playing field. Their football stadium looks a bit like Idaho State:

That stadium looks much nicer than Idaho State's. Idaho State looks like they're playing games in their mom's basement.

I think Northern Iowa comes to Greeley in 2013. Road game in 2014.

That's great considering we have an one more road Big Sky game than home. Throw in a cupcake game and the Wyoming game then we have an even home/away schedule.

No, Big Sky is still 4 home, 4 away games. If we have UNI and a D2/non-scholarship school at home and Wyo on the road, that's 6 home games and 5 road games with room for 1 more opportunity to either take another guarantee game, play a quality FCS opponent on the road or grab a 7th home game.

You are right, I missed the home Montana State game.

For the record the UNI message board says they play here on 9/21/13 and we go there on 9/6/14.

Apparently we are @Wyoming on 9/14/13 (week 3).

It seems like we have to piece together future schedules from other schools websites every year.
I believe it is pending date agreements.
I agree.....it is frustrating

I can't remember what FBS school we had a problem with a couple of years ago but I remember there were last minute changes to the schedule because of it, maybe they are gun shy about posting general agreements between schools. It stinks becuase you can got to schools web sites and see who some of their non-conference opponents are 4 years out.

Just found out CSU-Pueblo will be on the Bears schedule next season.

If this is true, it's insanity. Why not schedule Grand Valley and Northwest Missouri State while we're at it?

I sure hope to hell that CSU-Pueblo have a shit load of Seniors on this team because they are kicking the crap out of everyone. If we are smart, we will have another D-II team before we play them.

Have a few key seniors, but with the program only being 5 years old and the success of the last 3 years (32-3) the recruiting classes are getting better and better. Only have to look at our trio of running backs who are all underclassmen to see that. We will be replacing our qb which will be tough but there are a couple of good ones to choose from, the defense we return the majority of, also lose 1 receiver and a couple on the o-line but our offense is returning a ton of weapons. In addition, our 2011 All-American db who was hurt for this year will return next season.

Have not gotten to watch UNC play, and obviously you have struggled a bit after moving up, but it will still be a very tough task for us to come up there and get the win. Only common opponent appears to be Colorado Mesa who you beat @ home 40-3 and we beat @ Mesa 48-10. Of course, that is a big game for us and it was likely tough for your guys to be very excited to be playing a D2 team so comparing is kind of tough. We are certainly looking forward to getting the chance to play you guys though.

Welcome to the board and thank you for your insight. I remember when we were competing for DII titles thinking that our team could beat a lot of IAA teams. The top of DII really can compete with certainly the bottom third of the FCS so I am looking for a heck of a battle.

Thank you much. I certainly think we can compete physically with you guys, but I am biased as my father is the strength and conditioning coach here at CSU-P, prior to taking the CSU-P job he was the head S&C coach at the Air Force Academy for a decade. Along with the coaches doing a great job recruiting, I think he is a main reason for the success we have seen. The UIndy coach , who we just beat 28-7 in the playoffs, commented several times in the post game interview about how physical we are. The offensive line has dominated teams all year, that will be put to the test against you guys for sure. One of our tackles has a very good chance of being drafted this coming spring and another, who was at CU prior, could sign as a FA after the draft.

I have honestly never watched a FCS game that I remember so I'm not really sure of the difference in talent or speed. I will def be making the trip up there next fall though!
