I don't really see the extra hardship with Sac being in Cali. Winter travel in the Rocky Mountain West is difficult regardless of where you call home.

The roadie we go on to UND and UNC is 3,000 miles round trip.......your longest travel is around 1,900 miles.........our shortest trip is almost 1,400 miles........and we all know nobody gets direct flights to almost any of these campuses so these mileages are going to vary. That is what I mean about us being the only Cali team and travel being tough.

Are we really arguing about travel? It is what it is. Every team in the Sky has to deal with it. To me playing in a warmer climate at sea level keeps your guys healthier and fresher. So be thankful for that. Once again though, Weber shouldn't fear the Nest. The Hornets only beat the Cats off a 75ft heave in OT. When was the last time the Hornets won in their nest against Weber? Twice in 8 years?? Also, it was the second half of a long road trip. Going from Flagstaff to Sac is exhausting and the Cats still almost won. It was the one of our worst games last year and perhaps your best. Also travel between Poky and Ogden is nothing. That is travel wise an easy roadie. Only getting unco and und at their places in January is far worse and they are both strong programs. No favors were dished out. I like the OOC of the Hornets. A lot of winnable DI games.

Personally I like the new scheduling as it reduces travel to places no one cares about. If there is anything for Hornet fans to be upset about it is the fact that the phaggies were too scared to play us in the annual rivalry on the hardwood, especially since it was out turn to host and that we undoubtedly would have curb stomped them by 20. That game would have been our biggest draw of the season, second would have been a Weber game. Other than that I am ok with our OOC games, Bristol notwithstanding.

And    at a Weber posted blaming the Hail Garrity on clock mismanagement. There is no question that last second heave got off in time. :coffee:

Simpson is about as bad as Bristol right? A small Bible college in Redding with enrollment around 1,000. 30 years ago AD's would not stand for coaches ducking their close rivals to save face and their jobs. Today it happens all of the time.UC Davis will get theirs. I think Sac has one of the better non conference Big Sky schedules I have seen. If you want to see a bad one check out North Dakota. The only OOC D1 home game they get is Omaha in March.

Bristol is one step above an intramural team. It is like an all star team picked from their intramural leagues. They are going to be really horrible. It will be like playing St Katherines all over again. However, they may not be that good. They won't have anyone over 6'4'' and their coaches are volunteers. We should set a goal of holding them under 10 points.

Bristol?? UGH!! How on earth do we keep seeing these crap beat teams on our schedule. I get the Presentation College game, but Bristol? The coaches want to work out the kinks before we head out to the Paradise Jam and get another home contest under our belts. But Bristol?? Really?? Hahaha...well, at least everyone will get to play. Fuller's best game was against St. Katy's last year. Fun times.

Our Bristol game is played the week where we usually have our rivalry game. My guess is Katz back filled with Bristol when the phaggies backed out. :ohno:

Santa Clara just posted this today. It fits our schedule and perhaps gives us leverage to have Santa Clara at home in 2015-16

Need one team to play two games (vs Santa Clara, vs Northeastern) in the 48th annual Cable Car Classic. This is NOT an MTE. Dates are flexible from Dec 15-19. $$ and tourney gifts, post game catered meals. Flexible game times and 3 airports to meet flights for holiday travel. Email with interest, can hook this into a possible series start if available for future dates as well. (Can also offer only one game as well)

This looks like a great tournament to be a part of. I would hope that the Cats could make it work. But the biggest problem is that the Cats are scheduled to play UVU on the 20th. That might be too much in one week.

If it was for next year I could see it happening, but not this year. That would make 4 games in 7 days, and just before league games get going. I don't see Randy doing it unless it was as a favor to a friend. :twocents:

I don't like Bristol on the schedule. As for the above tournament, I wouldn't mind seeing the Cats participate. If it means getting another DI team to visit in the future I think the Cats should do it. I don't see a lot of future DI programs breaking down our door right now. Weber can't look a gift horse in the mouth. 4 games in 7 days? These guys are in their late teens and early 20s. I'm pretty sure they can handle the work load. They really don't have much going on after that week anyway and it is after finals. I'm sure they will be able to get plenty of rest before the conference season is scheduled to begin. Rahe should pull the trigger and do it. Could also help get the recruiting going again in California.

I'm fairly sure that none of the coaches read this forum. If this is a true opening for this year and it is within the NCAA rules to schedule two preseason tournaments in the same year, then you should call Randy and let him know that you would like to see it happen.

Would be a cool tournament to be a part of, but it isn't realistic. No way Randy would do that to his team. Even for the possibility of a return game by Santa Clara. I'm thinking he is still waiting for St. Mary's to return our favor for playing in their tournament a few years back. I'm guessing we will never see St. Mary's make their way to Ogden in the future. Nonetheless, Weber wouldn't do this.

Like all of you, yes, I would love to see more DI programs at the Dee. Only way to do that is to start paying teams to come. Cats need revenue to do that. Weber just doesn't have it. To get a lower level team to come to the Dee, like Grand Canyon, would probably cost the Cats 80K.

Would LOVE to have a tournament at the Dee. Something like the Railroad Classic (Union Pacific could be our sponsors, LOOOOOOOL) or the Spike Classic (Standford could sponsor it, hahahahahahaha) hosted at the Dee. A four team tournament!! But that would cost around, I think Mr. Bovee said 400K. Lets all start saving our pennies.

St Mary's won't come here because they do have money and can buy some home floor wins, and refuse to go on the road for what would be an automatic loss. This scheduling thing is an NCAA problem, not just a WSU problem. In many respects, St Mary's feels about us the same way we feel about Grand Canyon and UVU. We are only doing home-n-home with UVU because we feel forced into it. Look at the heat UU is getting for dropping instate home-n-homes. Their arrogance helps them overcome their guilt. :coffee:

Athletics has got to find out how to develop revenue so that the Cats can bring in better teams to play at the Dee. I'd love to see a holiday tournament of some sort, but the chances aren't great of that happening. Possible sponsors? I'm sure the GOAL Foundation and Ogden/Weber County would love to get a decent tournament to visit to area. This is right up their alley.

On a side note, I heard that Oral Roberts (the man not the school) got mad about some questionable calls made when his namesake team played here in the 70s, and that is the reason why the two schools haven't met until recently. I wasn't around (catcat, since he knows all, might be able to drop some insight on this discussion) then, does anyone know what OR was complaining about? What happened?

I remember us playing OR back then. I don't remember any specific plays. However, if it was BSC refs, it is totally within the realm of possibilities that there were several horrible calls. Isn't that great, we can now blame BSC officials for our problems in scheduling.

The NCAA really, really, REALLY, needs to take over all scheduling and management of basketball officiating. :wall:
