2014 Recruiting

Excellent article in today's Bee about our two great new recruits from Burbank High School and their ex Hornet high school coaches. Hopefully both young men will have a rewarding experience at Sac State and it will spur more local athletes to want to play for Sacramento's Home Team!

Welcome to the board richhornet! Jaelin looks like a very impressive pickup, rated two stars by rivals and had an offer from Wyoming. A great addition to a good recruiting class, welcome Jaelin!

Go Hornets!

Looks like we got a verbal commitment tonight from a KICKER! Check out his hudl video. The kid nailed a 56-yarder this season.

Great kickoffs. He will need to work on that trajectory on field goals. Sometimes he got the ball up but others the low trajectory will get blocked, but he has a heck of a leg, that is for sure!

I did not watch his highlight film but i was able to watch a few games he played in this last year. He has a strong leg but he is hit and miss. Sometimes he will blast a great looking FG and then the next one is a complete shank. But the potential is there.

Interesting kid. Could turn out to be very good with some good coaching and getting the ball a little higher. One of the top kickers (number 49) in this rating system.

Looks like we just signed this wide receiver. I like that he catches the ball away from his body and has half decent speed.

Nice slot receiver

Article in the Bee today on these two preferred walk-ons. We may have found our future punter, too, as Merker averaged 43 yards per punt this past year. Let's hope so...

Around the region – Nolan Merker of Sheldon and Dre Terrell of Pleasant Grove have accepted preferred walk-on status with Sacramento State’s football team, meaning they are assured of roster spots without scholarships. We expect both to contribute. Merker, a quarterback and punter, said, “I’ll do anything to get on the field.” Terrell played quarterback, special teams and cornerback, though he said he might wind up as a wide receiver.

Dre Terrell is my nephew and he's excited about becoming a Hornet. Dre is coming in as a preferred walk-on because my brother is a disabled vet and he'll get his college paid for through the VA. I may be a little bias, but Dre is a very good player that can contribute immediately with him being able to play many different positions. He's gotten interest from many schools, some as far as Georgia Tech which called his high school coach quite a few times. I was even told Chris Petersen called the high school, before he took the Washington job, to talk to the coaches about Dre. Sac State is where is he wanted to be and it was evident early with him coming to all their home games this past season, liking all the coaches and feeling comfortable with the players. I didn't see on any earlier posts about Dre's football profile. I'll provide them in this post so you can get to know him a little better.

Welcome ATerrel! The Hornet family us lucky to add a talent like Dre and we hope to see this local boy succeed over the next 4 years!

Thank you. I look forward to the next 4-5 years. The Hornets have a very good recruiting class coming in and it's great to see local kids stay home.
