New RB commit from New Orleans:

Okay, never mind. It's too bad we even offered this kid. He's wanting a UCLA offer after he had an official visit there. I don't blame him for that, but he admits he will use UNC as a springboard and transfer to a bigger program later. Pull the offer. Get a guy who wants to play here for four years. gesh...what's gotten into kids? :ohno:

I think he is probably like a lot of the kids that go to an FCS program. They come in believing that they should be playing at the FBS level, think they are going to come in and tear it up as freshman and then transfer. Unfortunately for them it doesn't typically workout that way.

He is probably in for a dose of reality when he gets to school and finds out that he is now just another athlete not a star.

Yeah, and if he gets an offer from the Bruins and changes his mind, I'm fine with that. I won't be fine though if he thinks he's just going to coast in, dominate and then transfer to UCLA. That's not being committed to the program. We've had some jack bucket athletes in here like Jace Davis and Will Jefferson, just to name a few. Not kids who are committed to the program they play for. Enough of these!

I agree that this would likely be another one of those players that doesn't help the chemistry of the total team. If you have one or two jackasses on the farm you can still function as a productive farm, but once you get more than two you now become a jackass farm.

Let this one go and get some kids that really want to be here.

Raekwan might be the anti-Darius Graham. Darius is a good, humble kid that works his butt off. I hope he puts this kid in his place. If Raekwan wants that FBS offer than he might want to sign with a JC and then go that route.

By my count it appears this class is heavily weighted towards the offense.

Commits
OL - 6
TE - 3
QB - 2 (not counting the transfer of Berglund)
WR - 2
RB - 1
CB - 1
S - 1
LB - 2
DE - 1
K - 1

TE could turn out to be as many as 5 kids depending on where the kid Verna from Grand Junctin (listed as a LB/DE/TE) or the QB/TE from Texas end up playing.

Would have liked to see a little more focus on defensive recruiting based on last years stellar defensive performance. Of course a number of these kids will probably be playing a different position.

Is this Berglund thing a for sure thing? Is he taking classes this spring?

I count at least 2 Safeties:

TREVOR DOUGLASS - (already signed)
RONNIE LARUE

Yes, he is taking classes and working out with the team.

No doubt he can play. I hope he stays out of trouble and becomes a leader. Should make for an interesting competition during spring drills and fall drills. I like a good competition at that spot. It makes the off season more interesting.

Agreed, from everything I have heard he fully expects that he will be the starter come fall. Wouldn't want him thinking any other way.

My bad, was looking just at kids signing tomorrow.

DE/LB commit- Collin Gibbs (6-2, 220 lbs, 4.82 forty) out of Silver Creek High School. Physical kid with a nose for the ball. Good defensive pick up.

Isn't Berglund like 30 now? He's been at like 5 schools already, I'm not feeling this one, sorry.

New RB/MLB commit- Kijana Amous (6-0, 205 lbs, 4.5 forty) Out of Mansfield, TX. Rated 2 stars on Rival and 247Sports. Had originally committed to New Mexico State but NMSU pulled his scholarship offer saying that had decided to recruit more defensive players. Piled up 1883 yards and 27 TDs last season.

Interesting that Raekwan didn't end up on the list of signees today. Wonder if coaches saw his comments and pulled the offer or if he got the offer he was looking for.

Also, interesting that RB Kijana Amous who tweeted just last night that he was committing to UNC did not sign today. Would have really liked to have this kid on the roster.

Yeah, I wonder what happened. Ended up with Trae Riek...

Trey Riek looks very elusive and has deceptive speed and a heck of a hitter on defense. Looks good anywhere on the field. He looks like he is ready to play . Good luck to this entire recruiting class ! Go Bears
