2014 Recruits

i do not think we have had a player be part of the program, leave for 2 years for religious services and then come back to the program again during the rahe era. have we? also, we get very very few utahns. pelt should be the first.

i didnt consider mahoney. i believe (though could be wrong) that he was a cravens signee. i mean he was almost 40 when he used up his eligiblity and had a number of degrees.

Josh Fuller just got home from his mission and will be on the team this fall? McKay Cannon is supposed to leave on his mission in July and is verbally committed to return after?

It's too bad that McKay couldn't have made it out a little sooner. I suppose that the school year and the MTC are the limiting factors. It will just make it that much harder to get back in shape for the fall. It will be a good thing to at least have the potential for a red shirt year. It doesn't help that he would be going after one of the most competitive positions on any team. One good thing is that he may be able to be with the team in June this year, even if it is just for a few days. From what I have seen of him, he is going to be really good. He's got the whole package.

i believe the rule is a player is still considered a recruit even if they are signed until the first day of class or practice which ever comes first.

Who cares what a player is. Once they sign an LOI it is a done deal, well practically, unless a coach leaves or the player is granted a release ( :kisswink: ).

Josh Fuller??? Catcat do you now believe me that he is becoming a Wildcat? He said he was going to join the team before his mission, he signed a LOI, and now he is back and on campus. Hmmm...once again you were wrong and I was right. The same thing will be happening next year too. The biggest reason catcat doesn't want Van Pelt back, is that he doesn't want to have to admit that I was right and he was, yet again, wrong. LOOOL

5-10 PG Jerome Segura: Houston Texas has reported been offered by the Wildcats.

He also has offers from N'western State, SE Louisiana, Sam Houston State, and one from Weber. He is receiving HIGH (offers could come at anytime) interest from: Akron, BYU, Utah State, Rice, Lehigh, Stephen F. Austin, and UNC Greensboro.

14ppg, 2.6apg, 3.0rpg. He had game highs of 36ppg and 28ppg during the year.

6-9 235 C Zach Braxton: Highland Ranch CO has reportedly been offered by the Wildcats.

He also has offers from Denver, Green Bay, and Wyoming. Also he is receiving interest from Boise State, Colorado, and Standford. He has made a visit to Wyoming. I'm sure that one experience was enough for him too. Laramie?!? Really?? I hope the coaches were able to get some of our recruits to visit for the CIT Championships. Supposedly, Kemp from ECU told one of our fans that if he would have known about Weber State it would have been a school, because of the fans, he would have seriously considered attending.

6-5 175 SG Ryan Richardson: Mesa AZ (Dobson High) has reportedly been offered by the Wildcats.

He also has offers from Denver and Utah State. He is receiving interest from NAU, San Fran, UC Irvine, Portland, and Wyoming.

Are you his mom, dad or brother?

while it is not an ncaa infraction to talk to players family once they have come to wsu and started class or practice....what about players who leave for church missions? does it matter? is it like a new prospect again who needs to sign? or just a deferment for a few yrs?
BYU recruits missionaries who previously signed at other schools all the time, don't they?

NCAA put the kibosh on that. The Nelson rule was created because of the surreptitious and backdoor behavior of the Y. At least that is my understanding. No matter, BYU thinks they are too good for Van Pelt. Until he comes back and beats the tar out of their bigs.

My understanding was that BYU was within days of perhaps signing Van Pelt, but Josh Sharp became available. Sharp was fresh off his mission, ready to play and the "U" had screwed up his paperwork so he was free to sign with anyone. I hope Talhadfoursteals is right and he beats the tar out of their bigs.

talhad,

take ur meds today. what are you talking about?

1. you didnt read this whole thread. i was questiong whether or not it is an ncaa violation to engage van pelts parents (assuming they are on here chatting). but since i forgot byu recruits missionaries while they are out preaching that confirms its not a violation. but if for example seglin or gittens had a parent on here that would be a "booster" violation. wsucompliance was on here saying that it is not in fact a "done deal" after they sign LOI.

2. when have i ever said anything bad about a wsu player coach or prospect? no way. im not a hater. never do i dis anyone who dons the purple and white (minus john L). all i did was point out the obvious that we would likely not see pelt again since we never see utahns again after they leave on missions. i made an observation.

No one on here, except you and I, and perhaps bengalhater (depends on which personality is controlling him that day) know who each other are. If a parent is posting on the forum, who cares. How would we know? And why would we ask?

Next, what are you talking about!! Orchard is the only Utah player signed prior to his mission who didn't come back. How can it be "obvious" with 1 example? Honestly, if Weber could get more local recruits to sign with us that were at our programs level, then I'm pretty sure that the coaching staff would sign more. But with Utah State, the Y, and Utah fighting for the best recruits that really doesn't leave much for the Cats. Since Rahe has been coach, Weber has signed four guys prior to their missions with the intent to come back and play. Jake Orchard (who was signed in 07 and evidently our team improved while he was gone), Ryan Van Pelt (who was a preferred walkon and earned a scholarship prior to leaving on his mission, which is a huge accomplishment), Josh Fuller (he was at Utah and LK kicked him to the curb, since Weber had been recruiting him prior to him joining the Utes, after a quick phone call to Rahe, Fuller was told he would have a scholarship when he got home. He has signed an LOI and from what I have heard is home or will be home soon), and finally McKay Cannon (he also signed an LOI and is leaving the first of July. If he played for the Y, I"m sure he would have gotten a call up date for the first of June. YIKES the Y).

Obvious that 1 player signed in the Rahe era didn't come back. I guess, that is the only player, so since he is, then it would be obvious, but since Fuller is joining the team, it is now a 50/50 that a player signed before his mission will come back and play for the Cats.

I for one am extremely excited to see Van Pelt come back, and once he is back, I'm sure Catcat will be too. It is okay to rip on John L though.

Calm down everyone:
1. clearly not an NCAA violation,
2. after signing an LOI the only way it is not a "done deal" is if the player wants to sit out a year, and
3. that is what is unique about a mission, since it is 2 years a player can change w/o the requirement to sit out.

"point out the obvious that we would likely not see pelt again since we never see utahns again after they leave on missions" ? Are you aware of any missionaries who transferred out of WSU during their missions? I can't think of any so I am not sure why this is so obvious. LOL

In my opinion, kids choose to play at certain schools 1) for the quality of education, 2) because of the coaching staff, and 3) how they fit in with the team (playing opportunities). Apparently, Van Pelt saw this as a fit and that is why he is verbally committed.

While we are on the subject ... why is it OK for a coach to sign a 10-year contract and two weeks later bolt for a better deal (Alford )? Coach Rahe is a QUALITY coach and I for one hope he is here for the long term
