2014 Recruits

for me and talhad this is our normal posts toward each other. i am proud that we are ruining this thread.

but to defend my arguement i did say early that we have never seen a player who was signed or part of our program prior to a mission still be part of the program after the mission.

to date there have been 0 that i am aware of. fuller would be the first in 8 years since mahoney was probably signed by abegglen in 1998.

I'm with you 100%. Randy loves it at WSU and we love him right back. I know, for a fact, that he has had other opportunities. He has been so loyal to the kids he recruits that he couldn't leave them. He expects commitment form the kids, but he gives it back to them as well. There was one coaching offer that almost got him. He had family and freinds there and it would have been a significant raise in salary. He didn't pull the trigger on it because he loved it here and he was committed to the kids. I'm not saying that he will never leave the school. I'm just saying that it would take one HECK of an offer. He has a great family and they love it here also. :thumb:

As for Ryan, everybody associated with WSU is pulling for him to develop into a great player. Having watched him play, I think it can happen.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOL. Not only do we argue this on the forum, but also, through messenger and text.

Okay, so to get back on topic (tal and catcat you idiots), 1 scholarship is spoken for. Tres' spot will be going to Van Pelt.

Berry
Richardson
Fulton

So Weber is probably looking for two guards (most likely a PG and a combo) and another big possibly (the Cats will have Hajek, Bolomboy, Fuller, Hill, and Rex; so, I'm guessing another C). Maybe another wing?

I know the chances are virtually zero, but I was just thinking how awesome it would be if, by some chance, Dorian Pickens decided to come to Weber. To me there is a slight chance. Reasons?

1. Weber was the first school to offer. Our staff has a long association with him.
2. Richaud Gittens is a teammate that has signed a LOI and is on his way to Ogden Utah. He could continue to play with a good friend.
3. Damian Lillard will soon be the ROY in the NBA for 2013. Proof that you can go to a Big Sky school and be successful.
4. Weber is on the cusp of going from being a good team, to becoming a great team. We have all the parts necessary.
5. Look at our facilities, fan base, and record over the past 5 years.
6. Our coaching staff is proven to develop players and help them to become better than their best.

Dorian Pickens and Richaud Gittens are not classmates. Dorian plays for Pinnacle Peak in Cave Creek and Richaud plays for Marcos de Niza in Tempe, probably about 30 miles between these two high schools. But, you are right, it would be incredible if Weber were to get Pickens.

They aren't on the same school team, but if I recall, they are on the same AAU team, so they are teammates.

Pickens said in an interview at Nike Elite Camp that he is getting recruited heavily by the Pac-12 schools. He makes no mention of Weber.

I have heard that Pickens has the "Big 6" look in his eyes. He will be going to a high major. I wish it wasn't the case, but don't get your hopes up on signing Dorian. :twocents:

Specific players are saying that Weber has been recruiting them:

Joey Frenchwood 6-1 PG Newark California
LaRandall Scroggins 6-6 PF Carrolton Texas
Devin Watson 5-10 PG Carlsbad California

We have a chance on getting Jared Stutzman from Idaho. A 6'5" SG with offers from Weber, Utah, USU, and San Francisco. The only other offer out that I know of for 2014 is Dorian Pickens a 6'4" SF from Arizona. But I would be surprised if we got him. He has offers from Arizona, Arizona St, Boston College, Colorado, New Mexico, NAU, Rice, and Weber.

Stutzman committed to San Francisco over the weekend.

I've kept my mouth shut on the recruiting of Stutzman for the past 10 months. I didn't want to repeat something that was mentioned to me in confidence. I asked about this young man back then, and was told that he was not really on our radar, that we were not actively going after him. He looks like a good player and a good kid and I wish him the best where ever h goes.

Weber cooled on Stutzman last Summer. So did USU and the Pukes. San Fran was really his best choice left. I like Stutzman. He comes from a good family and is a hard worker. I only wish him the best in his future goals and academic experiences. USF is a wonderful school. He will love it in the Bay.

Byron Smith of Ft. Worth Texas' OD Wyatt High School. He is 6-6 SF.

The two listed above look like really solid prospects. It also looks like the competition to get them is going to be tough. It only takes one or two of these kind of guys to put us over the top and make us a solid top 25 program. I think we are really close to that now. I don't care if it's a long shot to get them. We have to go after and get a few of these sorts in every class, if we want to take that next step. We have already done it with this years incoming class. Let's go out and sign another group of the same caliber. :thumb: :thumb:

PG Jordan Howard from AZ has an offer from Weber State according to following blog (http://blogs.evtrib.com/varsityxtra/2013/01/03/boys-basketball-juniors-continue-to-shine/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). This also mentions Ryan Richardson.

Also Diontae Jones of Las Vegas has received interest from the Cats.

Plays for Texas Select AAU...no info as to whether or not he has interest from Weber...

Same AAU program that Senglin and Bolomboy came from... Also, Myles Turner is on that team.

Highlight for Myles Turner: He is pretty raw, but has a lot of upside.

Nice article about Myles. Sounds like he has a really good head on his shoulders. He is looking for the school where he can thrive the most. Where there is a family feel with the coaches and his teammates. Weber!!
