2015 recruits

Midmajor??

Any updates on how the 2015 recruits are doing in their high school season?

Was wondering who might see the most minutes next season? Due to the amount of players signed I know there will be some red shirts, expect a couple to play as Freshman!

Thoughts?

It is fairly hard to get updates, but for the most part, each of them are having solid years. Down in Utah County, Riley Court is having a great season. He plays in a tough region, and is having a lot of success. Here are his stats, courtesy the Deseret News: http://www.deseretnews.com/sports/high-school/player/stats/137228/1/Riley-Court" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Emmanuel Nzewkwesi is having solid season of basketball for Byron Nelson in the Dallas area.
20games 361points 18.1average 9 3pointers made 189rebounds 9.5RPG 38assists 1.9APG

Can't find much about Juwan Williams...but what i have found is good.

Jordan Dallas, good year too: http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/jordan-dallas/BvMoF1bjEeOzMAAmVebBJg/default.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This isn't an accurate measure of Jordan. It has some of his stats from games, but not everything.

As an update... I'm sure you have all heard what Riley Court did at the state tournament. He and his team, regrettably were shown the door last night by Davis but not after a solid couple of games by Court. He averaged 24pts, 12 rebounds, and 4.5 assists a game not bad.

Last night Jordan Dallas had 10pts, 19 rebounds, 8 blks, 2 steals and 2 assists. Not bad

Also, regrettably Nzekwesi ended his career with an 18 pt game.

Been wondering why Weber isn't recruiting Walter Wright from Snow College. PG averaging 22 pts and 6 ast. Scored a Snow record 49 in one game.

http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/walter-wright
Committed to Montana.

Good pick up by the Griz. He is a PG that is very similar in style to his new coach. The Griz desperately needed a scorer after losing Gregory.

By the way, our recruiting gurus totally missed something. I noticed on Verbal Commits that a kid from Wasatch Academy is being recruited by the Cats. Cody John has been offered a scholarship. I thought the kid from Saddleback was an automatic and according to our dear friend from Sac, he was virtually locked up. His words, "from my sources, it is a done deal." So, what gives? Is he locked up or not. Cody John has great numbers, but Wasatch Academy is a 2A school. Who have they really played? Layton Christian and North Summit? I like his style though. He looks tough and has quite the stroke. Getting two shooters would be awesome for the Cats. I'll take John and Baker. Just wondering how 13 will equal 13.

Yep...Cody John has an active scholarship offer. Wasatch might have played against 2A competition on the state level in the past, but this season the Academy played more of a national schedule against other prep schools. At least I think they did. That is what it looks like to me. They did take on Bountiful, Timpview, and Lone Peak. In each game Johns did a good job. I just want to point out that John's and Baker down at Saddleback are both highly efficient players who have played against great competition. Baker is playing in the JC State Championships in California this weekend. Last week he was the man in the region championship to help Saddleback get to the state championships. He scored 21 out of the total team 53 points and I believe ended up with 6 assists. Not bad...

As for the numbers. We will just have to wait and see.

13 scholarships next year and we're already 2-3 over......... its going to be a tough offseason. obviously some players are not coming back. Going to be a tough purge.......

It must be difficult to fire a team up for a conference tourney when players are suspecting that it might be their last game in a Weber jersey.

Any player, worth his salt, is not thinking that way. If they think that they are getting cut and they are not playing much, chances are good that they are getting cut. 99.99% of players are not thinking that way.

Really? Scratched, they might be basketball players, but they know math......they know they have more players with scholarships than they'll have available next year! It's an uneasy time....... Have to wade through the process, but it's clear that some teammates might not be in a Weber jersey next year. It happens. Players aren't robots...... There's a lot of emotions this time of year.

Yes, you are right, youngguns. Except that none of these guys think that they are the one. I do know that two of the guys have already been told. I won't name names. There are still a lot of variables in the rest of it. I can guarantee you that none of these choices are made lightly and that all of these kids are good kids. Everyone deserves to be treated honestly and with compassion. There is a lot that goes into being a D1 basketball player and there is a lot of pressure on coaches and players. I think that it is safe to say that all that are involved want everyone to be happy and successful. Sometimes, people just need to move to where they can find that success.

Nobody is giving up on any of it. even though it is difficult. :twocents:

I just looked a little deeper into his stat line. He had 191 assists which is good enough for 18th in the country, but he also, as a PG, had 136 turnovers. He was 2nd in JUCO according to http://stats.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2014-15/div1/players/walterwrighty95i" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for turnovers a game. He also only shots 32% for range. He is primarily a slasher. If you can keep a man in front of Wright he gets frustrated and starts fouling a lot. Snow was 2-8 to end the season. The more I look at his stats the more it reminds me of a guard from Otero JC Weber picked up last spring.

I definitely would take Dusty Baker over Wright any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Dusty Baker:

11.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.2 spg

FG: 110 - 219 50.2%
3FG: 33 - 72 45.8%
FT: 141 - 170 82%
95Assists - 56Turnovers.

Freshman and averages 23.4 MPG. (Saddleback is 31-2 and playing in the California Championships). He has gotten stronger as the season has gone on. His percentages, time, and efficiency have all improved.

Walter Wright:

21.8ppg, 4.2rpg, 6apg

FG: 230 - 447 48.2%
3FG: 53 - 161 32.9%
FT: 184 - 226 81.4%
191Assists to 136 Turnovers

Sophomore and averages 25.5 (interesting fact, he averaged 35 in conference. I mention this because Snow went from being a strong team at the first of the season to only winning 2 out of their last 10).

Cody John:

http://www.deseretnews.com/top/1374/1/Cody-John-Wasatch-Academy-2A-MVP.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Sophomore Season -- 2A MVP

Junior Season -- 2A MVP

Senior Stats...Wasatch Academy was independent in Utah. Played mostly a national schedule.

Wright had 14 scholarship offers. Baker has 2 (the other is from D-2 Alaska-Anchorage). Golden, like Baker, had 2 offers. Either all these coaches are wrong or Rahe is outsmarting them all. And considering how he missed on Golden, I'd say it's more likely that Rahe is the one missing.

Bruce Collins had 1
Scotty Bamforth 2
Nick Hansen 2 or 3
Kyle Bullinger 2 or 3
I could go on and on...

Verbal Commits, Rivals, Scout...only report what players have said or what they have heard on Twitter or any other social network site. It doesn't drop teams that aren't interested anymore or adds every interested program. How many knew that Northwestern had offered Braxton or that Texas A&M and Clemson both were after Joel? Golden was highly recruited. JCs are extremely hard to get a bead on and to know for sure who is currently involved or not. I'm Not saying Wright isn't going to be good just saying he isn't what our team needs. He is too similar to one of our current players. Baker is a freshman on a team loaded with DI talent. Bakers stock will explode next year most programs want JCs as juniors. To me, the last 10 or so games says a lot.

If I remember correctly, we got McKinney after his freshman year at Ohlone JC where he had averaged about 14pts a game.......NO ONE ELSE OFFERED HIM......just saying.....I haven't seen either of these guys in person so I won't speculate on who is the better player.....I don't evaluate on highlight tapes.....BTW Garrity had only one DI offer out of high school.....
