I'm no math major, but below is the players with scholarships for the 2015-2016 season:
1) Bolomboy..Senior
2) Senglin... Jr.
3) Braxton RSF
4) Gittens... Junior
5) Hill..... RSJR.
6) Richardson... Soph
7) Hunter... Soph
8) Van Pelt... RS SOPH
9) Jefferson.... RSF
10) Court...... going on mission
11) Johns.... Freshman
12) Dallas.... Freshman
13) Williams.... Freshman
14) Nzkwesi.... Freshman
15) Baker.... Transfer Soph
16) Cannon...... returning from mission

We have 15 (16 but one leaving and one returning from mission) players with scholarships... The legal limit is 13..... what am I missing? Looks like we are two scholarship players over the limit.

 You are absolutely right. Time to speculate!! :coffee:

From what I am aware of. Current players can, if they want, utilize another type of assistance and be considered a walk on. If they chose to stay at Weber State and the coaches still want them.

Don't want to speculate, but don't see former scholarship players using financial aid to stay on the team. They have the opportunity to transfer and get playing time at a lower level and most likely receive a scholarship. Great if they do, but would be pure practice players at the most at Weber. I know the scholarship game is a crap shoot and recruiting is like looking into a crystal ball, but its telling that this is the 2nd year in a row with one Senior on the roster. We have gotten into a pattern of offering players that other schools pass on for whatever reason. I know we found a gem with Lilliard, but have to wonder if we are about to be south of the NCAA APR requirements. The Golden and Costen experiment was weird, but with losing another two players from this years team its almost turning over 50% of our roster if you include Hajek's graduation. I agree that the turnover was needed..... just doesn't seem like a stable program. We've either runoff or lost quite a few players in the last 3 years. And it wasn't due to declaring for the NBA!

Come on!

We have all known, since last November, that our two former walk on players who had been given scholarships last fall, would not have their grants renewed this fall. Brown was one of them and you have the other one on your list. Court is going on his mission. That leaves 14. I'm truly glad that none of you were math majors. :yikes:

Scratched.....

Dude..... Brown wasn't included in the numbers...... check your math, you're way off! I understand that English might be your second language, but you seem to struggle with the numbers. The list above is clear and simple.
Yes, Court is going on a mission, but Cannon is coming back to fill that slot.

Brown was one of the former walk on players with a grant, like I mentioned. There were TWO. The other one, on the list, was also told that he would not be on scholarship this fall. Brown was not included on the list, but the other one is still there.

Figure it out. :dunce:

Wow...... its clear (almost to everyone) that we have to lose two additional scholarships to get to 13. Unless Catscratched has some magic that he isn't sharing. Funny how we can all look at the something and come up with a different count.

ah..... scratch. Even if you remove the player to be named later. it leaves another player that we are not aware of that will not have a scholarship. Cannon and Court are a wash...... so either we are not signing all of the new players (which we are ) or someone besides the player to be named later is leaving the team!!!

In simple terms..... 15- player to be name later = 14. 13 is the legal limit!!!

Two players from Mid Majors list aren't returning!

Hmmmm... Let me scratch my head and ponder this for a little while....

Who could it be? ...... Who was a former walk on player on that list? ..... Can anybody help me? .....I just can't seem to come to it. Maybe, after another three or four months to use my thinking bone. Oh, me! :shocking:

Catscratched.....

I think its clear that there is one more scholarship player besides the former walk-on that will not be returning. Young's said it earlier..... Rahe isn't announcing departures. He still hasn't announced Golden and Costen. Based on the players and prior playing time, you have to guess that the player is from our current Freshman class, which is disappointing. Pure conjecture at this time on who it is, but we are without a doubt losing another scholarship player.

2014-15

1 Hajek (Sr)
2 Bolomboy (Jr)
3 Golden (Jr)
4 Johnson-Coston (Jr)
5 Brown (So) (According to catscratched)
6 Gittens (So)
7 Hill (So)
8 Senglin (So)
9 Braxton (Fr)
10 Hunter (Fr)
11 Jefferson (Fr)
12 Richardson (Fr)
13 Van Pelt (Fr)

2015-16

1 Bolomboy (Sr)
2 Gittens (Jr)
3 Hill (Jr)
4 Senglin (Jr)
5 Baker (So)
6 Hunter (So)
7 Richardson (So)
8 Braxton (Fr)
9 Jefferson (Fr)
10 Cannon (Fr)
11 Dallas (Fr)
12 John (Fr)
13 Nzekwesi (Fr)
14 Williams (Fr)

By my count, that's 1 over the limit. Someone else is losing their scholarship, and that's assuming Van Pelt won't have his renewed.

There you go.

One more player, and I'm sure that it will not be that big of a surprise to anyone. :ohno:
:?: Maybe I'm missing something, but who on that list wouldn't be a surprise? Give us a name, who you are thinking.

I got what you were saying Catscratched. I didn't know that Van Pelt was only getting a 1 year option. Lets be honest, every player on the team is only assured a scholarship for 1 year. Players sign each year. But you are right, Pelt is a former walk on that got a scholarship, and is now, kinda expendable.

So one to go...

10 underclassmen!! Yikes.

Dudes, so much flutter about nothing... get a life. Of course there is one more scholarship freshman that is not invited back. Surely everyone knows that it is Hayden Hunter. They have Senglin, Cannon and soon to be signed point for next year. They have told that point that he will be counted on next season. So coaches believe he has the skills to contribute as a Freshman and will see playing time. There will not be more than three points... Sayonara to Hunter. And is shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Does anyone who saw the cats play this past season really think that Hayden Hunter was good enough to hang on to his scholarship. To small, even for a point. Not quick enough to overcome size. An average passer who has never seen a hoop that he likes. Come on guys... its not rocket science!

13 = 13
Bolomboy SR
Senglin JR
Gittens JR
Hill JR
Ryan Richardson Soph
Dusty Baker Soph
Zach Braxton FR
Jeremiah Jefferson FR
McKay Cannon FR
Emmanual Nzekwesi FR
Juwan Williams FR
Jordan Dallas FR
Cody John FR

Riley Court is an automatic mission kid and is leaving end or May first of June.

That would be my list too. So do we know for sure if Hunter is transferring? Here is what I think the starters will be

1. Senglin
2. Richardson
3. Gittens
4. Bolomboy
5. Braxton

Baker, Hill, Jefferson are the first guys off the bench. 3 of the incoming freshman play and 2 will redshirt.

Wazz;

I like your thinking. Anything can happen over the summer and fall. There could be some surprises in there. Randy has said that all positions will be open for competition, and may the best man win. He has also said that he isn't planning for any red shirts. Although, we all know that the reality of the situation is that there will be two when the dust settles.

I don't know that it will happen, but I would love to see Randy go to a 10 man rotation, with every position having it's back up defined. To me, that lessens the impact of injuries and foul trouble. It also may allow us to keep our main guys fresh, longer into the season. Just some thoughts... :geek:

Well...according to Verbal Commits Emmanuel Nzekwesi has committed to the Orals of Roberts. Either Randy released him or the Orals committed a major NCAA violation. Either way, this is a major loss for the Cats. He held 18 scholarships and was probably our top recruit from the class of 2014. Oh well, he seems like a high character kid who would have been a major plus for our program. I wish him good luck in his future endeavors and that he has an excellent career for the Orals.

Weber has an open scholarship. Who do the Cats go after? We definitely need a big who will be able to play immediately. Randy needs a center too.
