2016 Recruiting: 19 Verbals (Known) *Updated 2/2*

I haven't seen anything leading me to believe he's flipping, but it isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Unfortunately, this is how the game gets played. Sometimes bigger programs sweep in and snatch a good commit in the last minute. But it's balanced, we've snatched some kids at the last minute too. Vernon Adams was headed to Portland State. We pulled Kendrck Bourne out at the last moment when we had another kid snatched from us. Can't get too worked up about those things.

Yes, this happens. Hopefully we are still in the running for his services. Good luck to the young man.

I am hearing that Barriere may have flipped. Expect to know more in the next 24 hours.
That would be very disappointing, hope it does not happen.
Hawaii is still on his Twitter page. If a guy goes that far away it really limits his friends and family being able to see him play.

Plus who wants to play for a loser? 0-8 in conference and look to be crappy for some time to come. Winning is funner than losing!

joemon,
Jason Talley is the younger brother of Jordan Talley, ex-Running Back. Jordan is ready to graduate and become a Doctor. BTW Saw Chris Cwick at MBB Game couple of weeks ago, Joey Cwik, his brother is a Doctor someplace in Kansas. Chris is now a Fire Fighter for Cheney Fire Department, Chris completed the Fire Academy a few months ago. I am sure most of you remember Joey, Hell of a line Backer a few years. He had an opportunity to go with New Orleans Saints, he opt out for him become a Doctor. Vic Wallace

I've met Chris and his wife tailgating a few times. Great peeps!

I was wondering if Talley was Jordan's brother. Great size!

Vic,

He's a little larger version of Jordan. Looks like he has the speed of his brother and combined with his size he may be a really good option in those short yardage situations.

I remember Joey Cwik, I always thought he may have been the best Middle Linebacker to play here. He made the right choice to be a doctor but it may have cost him some $$$$.

Looks like the coaching staff is going after some pretty good athletes this recruiting year, wouldn't mind seeing a couple of transfers or dropdowns in the next couple of months.

Take care Vic

Looks like we offered a preferred walk-on spot for John Lesser QB/RB from Liberty Christian. I'm surprised he hasn't been offered a ride by someone, he was one of the best all time for small schools.

Bummer,

He is one heck of a good athlete. Would have been a really good special teams player and probable started after a couple of years.

if he commits, great, if not, then on to the next one. i kind of hate the way that the NCAA handles recruiting and all the games that recruits and coaches are forced to play. i think it would make things a lot more transparent if things were binding when a player makes a verbal.

If a freshman verbals would he be committed? Sophomore? Jr.?
What about a verbal and there is a coaching change? Still committed to the school or follow the coach?
Too many variables to make it so simple.

I disagree. If verbal commitments were binding, then there would be no point to signing day. Also, no student athlete would make a verbal commitment, because they would be afraid of getting trapped if there is some major changes before signing day. Thus we would lose the entertainment of tracking which students are on their way to become Eagles.

It may be frustrating to see players flip, but that is just a part of the show and in the end, it's not that bad.

As of yesterday evening, Barriere was retweeting congrats messages for his Eastern commitment. You never know until you know, but that seems fairly solid.

That Crist kid seems like a really solid commit. I'm excited about that one.

Good to great class leading into signing day. Know there is a lot a video can't tell you about the player ie football IQ, character etc.. Prefer the below QB to Barriere. 33 TD's to 4 INT's, Bigger, Good to great vision, good escapability, played at a high level in HS. Come what may, a year with Coach B makes all these QB's better.

It's a little concerning that we've only signed ONE player that is being looked at to play on defense. Where are the linebackers and defensive backs? I am also wondering why we have only signed 3 players total from the state of Washington while schools like Idaho State have signed at least 11 already. The strength of our program used to be in-state recruiting ties and picking up those kids that didn't make it to the Pac-10 level but could easily plays at the FCS level or lower end of FBS. But now it seems like we've gone exclusively to Cali for skill positions players.

There's a direct correlation between our success in the past 5-10 years and an increased ability to recruit California more heavily. And we have a great recruiting base there...particularly in NorCal. Not sure why we would abandon that.

The backbone of the program will always be blue collar kids from Washington...but you're not going to win a lot of games just recruiting in-state.

Is the effect of a kid being invited to walk on and gives a verbal anything, except another # on the roster? Is he required to sign an agreement? Is there any level of commitment if he is not getting a scholarship?
ex: Preferred walkon, seems like a one sided deal.

It depends on how you look at it. On one hand, a preferred walk-on is essentially getting a gauranteed roster spot with the ability to compete for a scholarship. Sometimes you see kids taking a preferred walk-on spot somewhere if it's a school they really want to go to, rather than a scholarship offer somewhere else.

The flip side of this is there's really no guarantee that the player will receive a scholarship at any point down the road. You see this a lot with the really big BCS level schools. In essense, they are getting a scholarship level player for "free."

It's still a better situation than back in the day when the NCAA had no limitations on the # of scholarships programs could give out. It's a slightly more level playing field.

To All,
At the MBB Game on Thursday, I met a young man about 260 pounds, he stated he was a walk on the OL, forgot his name, he was with Terrence Grady, WR, and Brandon Bangsund, Kicker. He stated he will be walking on this Spring, he also stated he has some other Players from Lynden, HS, that will be attempting to walk on also. Well in another few days Feb 3rd, we will know who will be coming for at least 4 years to play Football for the Eagles. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace
