Joe Critchlow has not made a decision yet. He is communicating with lots of teams with visits scheduled in March to Memphis, Tennessee, Baylor, Central Michigan, FIU, Liberty and Weber State. He spoke with Coach Hill this past week. He will go to the place that he feels wants him the most...

I wonder how many of those are considering letting him walk on?

I would expect Joe is going somewhere for either a promise of playing time or at least a highly open competition for playing time.

If he goes to Tennessee or Memphis, it would probably be to move closer to home. Tennessee has 5 scholarship QBs on the roster including their returning starter and a walk on transfer from Maryland. Memphis also has a senior starting QB returning.

Baylor returns a senior starting QB who is coming off a neck injury in their bowl game. He has a history of concussions as well.

CMU may need a QB more urgently. CMU's starting QB was suspended mid year for a banned substance. His backup was a senior who has now graduated. CMU also has a Weber connection, Robb Akey played at Weber State with David Critchlow.

FIU just lost their starting QB to graduation and he may possibly make and NFL roster, so I presume that QB competition is pretty open.

Liberty also lost a four year starter at QB.

From what you have said, my money would be on CMU. We just don't really know who may or may not have a grant for him. It probably doesn't matter to him or his dad. It also sounds like dad is heavily involved in this process. :coffee:

Doesn't really seem that he is interested in coming to Weber State, but then again, who knows. This painted the picture that only FBS teams matter. To me he seems like a really smart kid. He has great size and would automatically compete for the starting job here. Under him, I really feel Weber would take that next step. Yet, some players see FCS as being beneath them. Can't say he does or doesn't. From this article it only tells us that he wants to play and be a factor in the teams overall success. Honestly, I would take him in a heart beat. He is a leader, smart, and determined.

As for some of the other options. Personally, I don't think he would ever sniff the field at Tennessee. I think he already knows that, but was happy to make a visit. If he goes there, I hope he competes, but I think the writing is on the wall. He won't play for at least a year and why transfer to only play backup and then maybe get the start as a senior? Yet, UT is the only school, other than Weber, that has a legitimate shot at potentially playing for something more than the Quick Lane or Bahamas Bowl trophy, and even then, it would be a huge stretch for UT to get to that point. Liberty, Central Michigan, Memphis, even Baylor are not competing for a National Championship, but Weber is. We have the pieces, we just need a QB to push us to go farther.

I don't see any FBS teams offering him a scholarship. For that matter, I don't see top tier FCS teams doing it either. I do think that there are many who will let him walk on and try to make some sort of rotation. Who knows, he might really help out a team like ISU or SUU. He just doesn't have a D1 arm, D1 speed, or D1 accuracy. He is probably a fine person and wouldn't be a problem in the locker room. I'm not real sure how much of a problem his dad is.

Looks like Sam Houston's QB has transferred to CMU.

JUCO OL

We still aren't happy with where our OL is. Need more depth and talent?
That was our weakest position last year. You can never have too much talent. They must think he will be an impact, to bring him in this late. I'm just hoping to have a season.

Shipp was originally a Boise St commit. Just coming off a mission. Good get for Weber.

After this recruiting class, I am feeling a lot better about the depth of our O line. With everything else we have, we should be even better than last year. I'm optimistic.

I’m getting excited about football as well. Adding depth to the line is great. A lot hinges on QB spot, Big Sky play demands a solid QB. They just have to have someone who can keep defense honest and is a good leader. I am sure Hill has some good options lined up.

Hill always has a strong defense...and I love watching great D. The Western Illinois and EWU game at home were awesome!

I just hope there is a season. I am missing Cubs baseball...even though I wasn’t expecting much. Missing a football season would be tough.

This is interesting. I can't ever remember someone from PA playing at Weber.

Looks like he visited campus in November and may have some family in Utah.
