6'6'' JUCO DE
https://twitter.com/King_Okiki15/status/1206256663658807297

I see a visit, but no evidence of an offer.
Highly unlikely that there would be a visit without an offer. That is particularly true of a visit at a game like we just had, and true for about any JC recruit. I think it might be that some, large groups of HS recruits, come on campus without all of them having a solid offer of a scholarship. I feel confident that Okiki has an offer.
I just report on what I see, but there are tons of visits without offers, especially unofficial visits.

Okiki changed his twitter status to indicate he is a DE from Weber State, but still no mention of an offer or a commitment. Maybe he is a mid year transfer?

He looks like he is very quick off the line, but at 6'6" and 215 lbs, this young man will need to put on some pounds and hit the weight room if he wants to play DE at this level.
Yes, he is taller and a bit lighter than our current DEs. I'm sure that he will be in the weight room getting bigger, stronger, faster, just like everyone else on the team. Defensive end is a unique position on the DL. It's all about speed and strength. The strength to hold your ground in the run defense and the speed to rush the passer. Defensive ends are often a lot lighter than defensive tackles. In our defense, the DEs sometimes drop back into pass coverage and that takes some quickness. This kid is not too light to play DE and he looks quite strong and athletic to me.

Yes DE is usually lighter than DT. But the lightest DE on the team right now is 230 lbs with most in the 250 - 270 range. Hopefully Okiki has an appetite for the training table and the weight room.

Well, the early signing takes place over the next three days. I expect a couple of JCs and one or two freshmen to sign. The rest of our signing class will come in February. I would be surprised if we sign any more than that. There is probably a list of guys we will jump in on if they don't sign on with an FBS program. There is always great players who get passed over and will be looking for a great place to play. We'll be ready to greet them with open arms. We got a lot of top level players that way in the past and we will this year as well. :coffee:

Cole Hagen...if the Cats sign anyone over the next three days, let’s hope it’s Cole. He might be one of the best high school QBs in the states history with enormous potential and upside. Total stud!! We are only competing with Harvard and Yale though.

Also has an offer from Dixie St, but yeah I agree. Hagen would be a good get. As we've learned the past couple seasons, you can never have enough quality QBs. As for the Ivy league schools, remember they can't offer athletic scholarships, so offers to play there aren't as good as they seem.

He is a total diamond in the rough. He has played at the highest level in Utah football over the past three years, has been the most consistent and frankly, one of the best offensively efficient QBs during that time period, and doesn't hold any offers from Utah, USU, or BYU. Absolutely crazy!! Shocking really, but their loss, is definitely our gain. This kid is a Cantwell type player: tough, smart, good passer, and can really run.

AS for other guys...it is a tough business being a football coach. I'm sure Coach Hill and staff cool on some guys when other options emerge. Guys who are being told not to sign with P5's have just become options. They now know they aren't the top choice. Big Sky schools who sign a lot this week are limiting their options. I love the Coach Hill approach sign the guys we definitely want now, and then find some diamonds in the rough.

Our Greek Freak and this Beast are going to be nightmares for the Big Sky (throw Mitton into the mix too;
and yikes).

Could have said the same things about Josh Davis three years ago, and that's worked out pretty dang good for him and Weber. :thumb:

Our D will be even stronger next year and almost everyone is back on O. I still think we need to pick up another running back. Injuries happen a lot at that position. We were a good three deep this year at RB and probably need to be 4 deep. We also need to improve and be deeper on the O line.

My question on this one is; If he was at his previous school 2 years and didn't play, Will he have 3 years of eligibility left? And, because he is dropping down, can he play right away? :coffee:

He will be a redshirt Jr and have 2 years to play 2. Will be immediately eligible and I believe will enroll in Jan.

But if he never played, as the article said, why can't one of those years be a RS year? That would leave him with 3 years to play 3. Is there something that I am missing?

Per the NC State roster he is a RS Soph this year which means he already burned his redshirt year.

It certainly looks like we will just have the two transfers in the early signing. The team is off to play in the semi finals and not here to receive a letter if one were to arrive. I suppose that there could be a LOI that just wouldn't be announced until they return home, who knows. It also may well be that all HS recruits have been told that we will not be accepting letters until February. Playing this far into the playoffs does delay things a little bit. I suspect that recruiting will shift into high gear next week. I'm also sure that most of the ground work has already been done. We will be trying to get the most out of the few grants we have to give. I expect a small but potent 2020 class. :coffee:

Nothing surprising about this. I believe we only had five early signees last year.

You're absolutely right. There are still some very good HS players unsigned and there will be a ton of drop down transfers hitting the market as they find out that their coach has just recruited over them. It's often a good thing to have one or two grants available going clear through the spring and early summer. Same is true in basketball.

I saw Joe Critchlow enter the transfer portal I would hope we would contact him and at least see if he would be interested in joining the Wildcats. He would make a huge difference in our team in my opinion QB has been our problem the last few years no consistency in that position.

I'm not saying that this kid isn't a good QB, but I don't agree with you that QB was a problem with our O. The areas I see for getting the most improvement are the O line and quality depth at RB. IMHO, if we improve those areas, our pass game will get much, much better. Defensively, we need to fill a couple of holes on the DL and get more depth at LB and DB.

My feelings are that we will be better next year even if we recruit nobody. However, with the right recruits we can be much, much better. I'm looking forward to a great year in 2020. Can't wait.
