2020 RECRUITING

Anyone else wonder what it would have been like to have the recruiting experience of today’s generation?

My tweet would have been "Beyond blessed to announce I have been offered by the University of American River State"

NDSU was this good in the 80's. Its a dedication by the administration to be the only 'Thing' in the entire state. Except for UND hockey, which is good at what they do.

Right. I get why they draw a lot of fans and get a lot of local support and funding from the area. Especially back in the 80’s, there was far less competition for entertainment dollars there. Sports wise, all they’ve got is at the collegiate level. That’s their NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL.

And I even get how they keep local athletes around that are fond of their upbringing and smaller town atmosphere.

I still contend that, to draw top athletes from out-of-state, specifically non-neighboring states and power states, they must have had to get extremely creative in the beginning. Hence my joke about hookers and blow. :)

Now it’s much easier because of history and reputation. But to get it all started, let’s just say I remain skeptical.

And I fully understand why they continue to hang around FCS rather than move up. Because they won’t win National titles at the next level to help them out-recruit the true FBS powers. At that level, if a kid is gonna choose a far away destination in cold weather, most are gonna choose Ohio State, TTUN, Nebraska, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, etc. Long standing, historic programs at that level.

I know it says he's committed. But nothing official has been announced. His name hasn't been included in any of the official signing period press releases.

I'm wondering if he's gray shirting or received a PWO. Or if there was a change of heart.

Just added another running back. I just watched his jr. year highlights, he is very impressive, a little bit small, very quick and crafty moves, can catch as well.

Pacifica. Star Michael Johnson III, who had 1,485 yards from scrimmage and 16 touchdowns.

Same HS as this kid, who still isn't appearing on any of the official signing announcements. Some of the comments from Michael Johnson's commitment talk about them playing together as Hornets.

My guess is that they are gray shirting or PWO. Especially with the timing of today's announcement. I wouldn't think there'd be any scholly's remaining considering the volume that were announced and signed.

You might be right, I heard some schools don’t use up all of there offers on that first day, because some kids are still holding out for the big schools. One of the writers said Weber State does this all time. Also I remember we had some kids last year who were walk ons, and then converted them scholies later. I didn’t know much about gray shirts, had to read up on, there not on scholarships as of yet.

So true! Same as Barry Sanders. I just worry the pounding on his body from a small kid like that is going to take. I read in one of the articles how this kid was on crutches at the end of the year. He’ll just have to hit the weight room hard! Sometimes the small ones are more elusive though.

Looks like we might be adding OL depth?

Only noticed because of Coach Richardson liking some of this kid’s tweets...

Was there a mention in there about Sac State in there? I couldn’t find anything and he’s not even followed by any of the coaches at Sac State. Would be a very nice get if we do.

I'll guess PWO? I haven't found anything official from us about it but it was mentioned in this newspaper he took part in a signing ceremony. (If it's a PWO of course, no actual NLI would be signed but he may have been given something "ceremonial" to sign) https://www.myvalleynews.com/area-high-schools-hold-first-national-signing-day-events-of-the-new-year/

I don’t know a lot on how the PWO work, but at least you found where he had an actual signing.

Coming back from the University of Washington...

This might be the first true 4* star (DeShawn Lynch was rated a 4* star before his Junior year at Folsom) and a high school All-American to play for Sac

So UW 2019 roster showed him as a Sophomore so he must have grey/red cuz he committed in 17. He will 2 years to play.

I’m a bit late to party on this one!

Just saw it on twitter about 15 min ago and came to post about it here, but you guys are already on top of it!

Another potentially great addition. I don’t know what happened at UW or why he entered the portal, but some at UW were expecting good things from him last season: https://thehuskyhaul.com/2019/05/03/washington-football-ariel-ngata/

He did red shirt as a true freshman and will enroll at Sac State as a red shirt Junior.

Week 2 up in Seattle just got a lot more interesting .....

Crazy, huh?

That’s what coaching connections can sometimes bring.

IDK how these guys will pan out, but the Hornets surely have added a lot of talent to their roster with the past two recruiting classes and more specifically this current class.
