#3 EWU at Cal Poly Game Thread

Defense is playing great. Officials have been okay. CP is rushing three with a spy on VA and dropping 7 into coverage. Keeping a back in won't help anyone get open. OL has to step up.

+1000 the line needs to step up the pass protection. our D looks fired up and is dominating this game so far, laying the big hits. CP is starting to look more tentative running with the ball as the game goes on. really physical play so far I am impressed.
Looked like that last year. Go Eags!

We need the defense to continue to dominate, because VA is just not having a great game. I am wondering if that hit to the shoulder is effecting his throwing arm, because a lot of his throws are just off. Put that ball more to the outside on that int and it's a TD to Hill.

Also, I knew we were athletic on D but I am very impressed with how physical they have been. The great thing about playing an offense like CP is you can hit somebody on every play.

I don't think it's the hit. I think it's the excitement of playing in front of so many friends and family. Vernon will settle in. The defense is outstanding!

Nice observation. Freebird mentioned that they are dropping 7 in coverage, sounds like a little read option might open things up. Should be at least able to run the ball a little more. Again, only radio, so any input is appreciated.

NDSU 35 to 17 late 4th over YSU. SHSU 14-3 over SELA near half.

Not surprising. SELA was/is a paper tiger.
Watching with one eye. SELA looks pretty physical, been in red zone three times and failed with 1 FG. Should be a good finish.
Blinked and SELA scored. Bell moving ball the other way now. He is ferocious competitor and takes a lot of hits for 180lbs.

SELA's d game plan is working pretty well. stopping the edge runs, keeping SHSU down the middle.

Excellent half-time commentary by Taylor Barton on this game. It looks like our offense is getting frustrated standing on the sideline for so long and have been looking slightly panicked and forcing things when they finally get on the field. It doesn't matter how long you're on the sidelines as long as the defense continues to play great. Boy have they played well. Another half like that and I'll take back everything I've said about them all year. Very inspired play so far.

If I recall correctly the long rushing touchdown was a read option play.

Need to come out and put up 7 !!! Will change the whole perspective for Cal Poly

Agreed, 21-3 makes this a very different game. 14-3 they can still play ball control to some extent in the hopes that they break a big one out of that triple-option. That's the thing about the TO, you keep running it and try to wear down the defense until you can break a big one. That said, I think our depth on the defensive line and the 6-7 man rotation we've got going on there is really having a nice effect for our defense in this game. :thumb:

TD to Kupp, but injury to Adams - throwing arm, not good. :( Looks like me may get to see some of Vitto much earlier than we wanted to.

VA's throwing on the sideline, but looks like he's hurting.
