#3 Weber State @ #6 Sacramento State

I've been thinking about this game a lot and reading the press, watching some Weber film. They believe they're going to be able to run the ball effectively against us. Pride cometh before the fall!

After watching our D (especially the DL) hold their own against bigger, faster, deeper lineups @Arizona State and @Fresno State, I think Weber might be in for a big surprise. Their passing game does not worry me in the least. If this game were in snowy, cold conditions in Ogden, I think Weber would be the big favorite. But, Andy Thompson has been calling aggressive, smart plays all year long, and I don't expect that to change. If we can sellout and stuff the run on the early downs, Obinna will feast on 3rd and long against this OL, which is so clearly built to bully teams in the run game. Weber won't be able to score enough points to top the Hornets in Sacramento.

The unbelievable, never-thought-possible season turns it up to 11 with another white-hot Hornet victory.

Hornets 41
BBQU 23

Pulled this from the Hornet board. Care to elaborate Kadeezy?

I think that Weber's going to come into the game thinking they can run the ball against the Hornets, as they should with the three-headed monster situation you have in the backfield. Hill would be stupid not to have that game plan.

The defining question of the game will be, can Weber pass the ball with success if the run game is stymied? I don't think they can, and if they try, you'll see a lot of George Obinna lined up LDE and I don't think Xavier Stilson can stay in front of him.

It's going to be an interesting battle of styles, and Sac State has been shocking everyone (including their own fans) this year, why stop now?

"Pride cometh before the fall!"
based on:
"(you) think that Weber's going to come into the game thinking they can run the ball against the Hornets" ?
Brilliant!

I get it; you've rarely if ever been here before. Just a friendly suggestion, keep your excitement grounded in reality or you might find yourself looking like the Democratic House.

In my opinion (and that's all it is; an opinion) Weber has very much been a work in progress and over-ranked all season-- they're not the 3rd best team in the country. They most definitely have continually gotten better as the season's progressed, though. Hill and Co. aren't looking past anyone, least of all @SAC, and no Wildcat would be thinking they could run all over the Hornets. But, you'd be wrong in thinking any player or coach wouldn't believe in there abilities until stopped. Hell, that's why the games are played by the teams, not argued by the fans.

You sure you didn't find this on eGriz? Sounds like something you'd find there.

Ironically, the Weber fan base seems a little more grounded about their team. So hopefully pride will goeth forth before the fall.

I think it is natural for them to be quite proud of their team. They have sucked so mightily, for so long, they need their chance to crow a little bit. Any way you look at this, this should be a great game.

Game day! Time to defend the title against the team that has "sucked so mightily for so long".

I believe the keys to the game are going to be turnovers, the battle in the trenches and whether Weber can establish a balanced offense which can maintain possession.

I expect Weber to create a couple takeaways on defense. The question will be how well does Constantine manage the game and limit mistakes against a pretty good defense.

I think the offensive lines for both schools will struggle with the defensive pressure. Weber will take away the run and force the pass. Sac St will do the same.

With both lines struggling, I think offense will be hard to come by. Neither team is gonna have consistency on offense and sustained drives will be difficult establish. All gonna come down to big plays.

This should be a very fun game to watch.
Weber 23-21

Sac has been very good offensively. Their D has been up and down a bit. This is the best Sac team we have seen since they entered the BSC.

Weber has been very good defensively. Our offense has been up and down a bit. This may be the best Weber team we have seen in quite a while.

We are going to find out if a good D beats a good O.

Olds....once again you are in a purple fog....Our D has played against the numbers 1, 2, 7 and 11 offenses in the BSC and rank number 2 in overall defense......Your boys have played the numbers 4, 6, 9 and 10 and rank number 1 in overall defense by a measly 13 yds per game.....I would say our D is not "up and down" unless you think your D is "up and down".....We will be the second decent offense you have played in conference and when you played the other good offense, you were down at halftime and gave up 350 plus in the air.....I don't think this is going to be close.....Sac 40-17

SAC by 23? I think you should bet your mortgage on that-- good luck.

Hoping for a competitive game, deserving both teams. I don't doubt Weber's ability to win this game but comparing stats to Weber's strengths and weaknesses I think they lose by about 9. Here is some statistical comparisons of WSU away games vs FCS, SAC home games vs FCS, and their common opponent in Cal Poly. Weber played CP at home in their 1st BSC game, while SAC played at CP in their most recent game.

This is cool.

Quick glance and what jumps out to me is that Weber is much better in turnovers and special teams. Also Sac St much better at passing and Weber much better at pass defense.

By the way, I'm not saying it couldn't happen tonight but the last time Weber lost by 23 or more
to FCS - @Chattanooga NOV 26, 2016, L 14-45;
to BSC - vsSUU OCT 2, 2015, L 44-0

I'm very encouraged by the strong start by Weber, but they are conservative play calling away from this thing turning completely around.
