Aaron Best it is

Everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves before being judged.
Aarons challenge will be when people compare him with Beau. He is not Beau, may be even better!

Coach Best is an Eagle for life. None of this is personal. Now, can anyone REALLY JUSTIFY why he should be the HEAD FREAKIN COACH? Baldwin was the OC under Wulff & look at the production! Best is an OL coach & running game coordinator for a team that has a terrible run game. Cmon! I don't ever remember seeing a great running game come out of EWU after maybe 1997. Taiwan Jones' success came from Taiwan Jones... not Best.

Maybe Bill had some vacation coming up and thought "screw this I'll just hire Best". REAL justification anyone?

Who was Baldwins right hand man for 9 years? Who was standing next to Baldwin every single play for 9 years? Who took a 5 first year starters this season and made the offensive line go from a huge question mark before the season to an after thought after the first game. Best had been preparing for this roll and Chaves made the decision it's time for Best to get his chance. I agree with Chaves decision. At this time what the team needs, what the school needs and what EAGLE nation needs is Aaron Best as the HC! Whenever you hire a new coach, and especially after the most successful coach in school history leaves it's nerve-racking but everyone needs to give him the chance to succeed his way! I really hope Best does it his way and not just the way he thinks Baldwin would do it. I remember a story Baldwin has told a few times. When he first got hired as the HC he was trying do things the way they were done when wulffe was the HC and he was OC and it just didn't work so in 09 he started doing everything his was and the rest is history.

I can't wait to watch his first game in Lubbock! Is it to early to start a roll call for that game?! I will be there!

Yeah... Forte didn't average over 1000 yards and 6.7 yards per carry in '13 and '14 alongside a prolific pass offense and Brown didn't tear up Nova filling in for Jones.

Anyone else ever wonder if BF might be an Alphagriz troll account?

Troll account? Wow that's low. You brought up Quincy Forte & Mario Brown & I'm the troll?

Congratulations Coach Best.

That's what an OLINE COACH does. :dunce:

You fans seem so sure of Coach Best succeeding, I hope you're right. GoEags!

BF, I for one am not sure Best will succeed but I do think he was the right hire. I'm not sure how Baldwin/Taylor would do next season in the first four really tough games so comparing whatever results we get with Best at the helm would be unfair. So I have full confidence that Best will do well and will be rooting him ALL year long. Here's to getting a great O.C....which is key!

BF - it's not like we have Nick Saban knocking down our door to be coach. Best was a great hire and will do a great job. If you have noticed the teams that have beat us in the past 4-5 years as well as the teams that won it all, they have absolutely dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, and with Best at the helm, we will absolutely do that as well, even more so than we have in years past.

Also, our talent on both sides of the ball isn't going anywhere and if you have done your research, you'd see that currently, Eastern has the #1 recruiting class in the FCS coming in this year if all kids remain on board.

Its a great time to be an Eagle, Best will do GREAT things...

Agreed. There's no way to tell if Aaron Best was the best available option for the HC position, because we don't know who the other finalists were per say. Any speculation on that at this point could only be looked at through a subjective lens.

Without knowing who else was being seriously considered, I'd have to say that Coach Best makes the most sense with regard to the long term health of the program and continuing the legacy of Beau Baldwin. We currently have the top ranked recruiting class in the FCS...that's not by accident. CBB continued to build on the foundation that was created by Dick Zornes and others, and Coach Best is well suited to continue that.

We could stumble some next year and that's somewhat to be expected when you have a large coaching turnover, but I think we're well positioned to continue our run of success with Coach Best at the helm. Obviously, improvements in facilities will have to be part of that equation and I will continue to bang the drum on that particular issue, but I don't think we're going to see some huge drop off in W/L like some are predicting.

This season will very interesting and similar to
last heading into it. In some respects there are even less question marks. We might have some drop off at WR but that could easily be balanced by an improved oline and running attack.

I also don't expect the D to take a step back.

Coaching and play calling are unknowns to a certain degree but I expect us no worse than 7-4 with a chance to go 9-2 and a seed if things break our way.

I think one intangible that will play into our success is player leadership. Last years senior class had such strong leaders led by Cooper. Who will step into those shoes to make sure we have the off season commitment that we had last year.? Who will make the big plays the Ebukam and Bruce made last year on defense? Coach BB had such a strong communication with his leaders. Will Coach AB be able to emulate that?

The schedule is pretty favorable as well, especially in relation to last year. Obviously Texas Tech and NDSU will be tough, Fordham is very winnable in spite of the cross country trip. We get the easier side of the Big Sky this year in Sac State, UC Davis, Weber, and SUU. We'll see if UND can stay near the top. Griz still a push.

I think that is a GREAT question, and one I've thought about myself. I'm not close to the players, so I don't know for sure who steps into this roles, but already this season, I think you could see Fettig and Gubrud stepping up into more is a leadership role.

I think this is another area where culture comes into play, and that will be the driving force of the leaders that step into this role. That is the unifying factor between the teams featuring Matt Nichols, JC Sherrit, BLM, VA, Kupp, and others. I think people that fit this culture is part of what Best was thinking of when talking about the EKG's (Eastern Kinda Guys, for those that missed the interview).
