Adams State

I am sorry that I am so fired up. I never imagined that Tres would shoot 30% from the stripe and I thought that Berry would spend the off season working on foul shots. These are the same two guys that were very vocal in letting the media know that second place was not good enough. I am not sure I can count on this being the worst free throw shooting performance of the season. The Marriott Center and Pauley Pavilion are not going to be easy places to shoot foul shots. I can give the freshman time to calm the nerves and shoot from the stripe better. But there is no excuse for a senior starter to go 30% from the line at home.

I think it was a promising start for Senglin and Gittens. They will get better as the season progresses. I wonder if we will see JRich run the point a little more at BYU.

It is never okay to miss free throws, especially 20 at home. It does worry me that we havent been able to break the press in 7 years going on 8. If Adams State can press us, what does that say for the BYU, USU, UCLA and BSC teams?? Thats why I am worried. Yes, Adams State had ballers, but had no business of losing by only 8. Again, USU handled them pretty easy. That was a good gauge for us. It was disheartening seeing missed FT's and TO from the press. Those two elements have cost WSU many big time games. The way Rahe attacks the press flat out sucks.. :wall: Tal, obviously its hard to put alot of blame and shoulder on the freshman, however, this team has no more excuses to not win a championship. I likewise dont care about 7 years ago. I care about results for this team now. Rahe has had 7 years to figure out the press. Aint happened yet. This team has yet to win a BSC tourney championship. I sure hope this team gets things done in Provo this week.. Fans, players and Rahe need/deserve it! Seniors need to step us and lead by example, and even if that starts with knocking down free throws.

41 replies for an exhibition game vs Adams St and 12 replies for the football game vs PSU. Funny, or sad, however you want to look at it. Says a lot about the state of both programs.

Well, I'm glad I care about what happen 7 years ago. I DON'T WANT TO RETURN TO 2005-2006!! WE SUCKED!! I hated it when there were more USU fans at the Dee and they started chanting Weber High. I was ready to fight everyone of them. We got our A$$es handed to us. It was BS and I don't want to go through that ever again. That is why I can live with a team that struggles against the Press. No matter, we are still a serious contender every year against every team.

Just as a disclaimer, I'm also hoping for a championship this season, but we are in an era, where EVERY season there is an excellent chance we can win it all. Whereas in the past we didn't have that option. Surely wasn't the case under Cravens, and really not fully under Abegglen either. Also, the reason why we have such high expectations is because of what has occurred the past 7 years. It's like some of you pine for the Cravens, Farmer, Houston days when Weber wasn't a threat. Just to remind each of you, Cravens had four teams that under-achieved and should have won, but didn't even threaten the eventual conference champions in those years.

YES...missing 20 FTs is frustrating and pisses me off. Not being able to break a press when you have 3 returning starters and a Soph who played substantial mins last year, is also frustrating. But I'm not going to call out Rahe when he is the reason why our team is where it is now. The Conference Leader!!

I love the passion and the expectations! That's what going to help push the program to the next level. Never, ever settled. We've come to far to accept poor performances as being ok.

Weber will be fine this year and for many years to come. I think we'll be fine at BYU and to hell to all the wannabes who have already penciled it in as a lost. Rage really beefed up the schedule this year. That will improve how we respond in conference play.

Comparing postings to football postings ? Really? Also understand that we cannot be any harder on coach Rahe and his staff than they are on themselves...... That I do not question. They will address the areas that need improvement.

I like all the attitude and vinegar..... Looks like we're ready for a new season!

Cravens, Houston, Farmer and coach A are not relevant to this discussion. They were not getting high level talent that we are getting. I think Randy is a great coach, but I think our teams are missing some mental toughness. It's hard accept that the same player that shot 2-7 from the foul line in the CIT championship goes out and shoots 2-6 in the first exhibition game. Tres has decent form. There is no reason that he can't improve his foul shooting. If I am imposing teams and the game is close. I put him on the line.

They always look to put the big guy on the line.... Don't get into Tres's head about free throws. You know he's on it. Tres is a beast and will perform as expected..... I use to think this was a homers only forum..... How does everything go sour after one bad performance? I want to see our team dominate in March..... Not in November.

Really enjoyed the Nick Saban peice on 60 minutes. It's the process that wins championships.

For me not everything is sour. I think it was good to get the Freshman some quality touches. I would much rather play a tough Adams State team than some other patsy exhibition game.

You really think that posting in this forum is getting in his head? Last year he was about 70% from the line. I am sorry if seeing him shoot %30 ticks me off. Bad foul shooting at home is not acceptable.

I am a Weber homer and I usually like to be positive. But seeing our senior leaders miss so many freebies has me riled. Hopefully they get fired up for BYU on Saturday. A win would be epic!

Free throws are 99.3456% mental. Tres will be fine. A lot of things play into the first game of the year. I agree we will need to pound down low and figure out how to beat the press, but BYU has a lot of questions too.... This is going to be a great game. The kids do read this forum..... Really wish they wouldn't.

I love the smell of a packed gym in November!

Adams st? this is Adams st we are talking about here right? GOOD HELL! This will be a fun opportunity to watch our team and that is it (probably less competitive than the P&W game) I will never call any exhibition team a quality opponent.
And if you guys really have enough time to research this garbage team then hit me up, I have plenty of yard work for people to help me with to cure your boredom. :ohno:
Derp! :dunce:

Missed free throws made this game closer than it should have been. However, that was a good DII team. They are going to win a lot of games this year. I don't know what happened to them in Logan, but I suspect the refs called even more fouls than we saw tonight. They did a lot of hand checking, pushing and hacking at the ball. The good thing about a game like this is that we will see similar tactics from a couple of BSC teams. This game gives us a list of things to work on in practice. For the most part, our freshmen did a nice job out there, and I think they will settle down and play better in the future. :thumb:
Agreed on all counts. I think we need to give Adams State more credit, even though we all expected a blowout. The only major complaints I have from the game are our usual ones. ... free-throw shooting and turnovers while under the full-court press. You can't miss 20 freebies and expect to win against any Division 1 opponent. On the bright side, I really liked what we saw from the freshmen, too. Gittens was phenomenal and Senglin did a nice job in the starting lineup.

Hawks since you are too damn stoopid to read back then i will re-post this for you.

It looks as if I have to eat some crow on this one. Adams St played their a$$es off. The way Adams St played tonight, they would beat at least half of the Big Sky teams. It was good for WSU to have a test and get a game on film to point out their own weak areas. Thank baby Jebus Randy Rahe is our coach and WSU has some real talented ball players. :notworthy:

My apologies on the late trolling effort. I suppose I get a bite of crow, too.

Relax, it's just an exhibition game. If the team gets the win AND accomplishes a lot of what the coach set out to do (i.e. experiment with player combos, give game time experience to freshmen, try new plays), then it was successful. I'd much rather have that scenario than win by 60 and not take anything away from the game.

These type of games are a chance for D-II and NAIA teams to play the big boys, and they usually go all out. Granted, Utah was a bad Pac-12 team two years ago, but a Pac-12 should still not lose to a D-II. However:

http://utahutes.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/recaps/110511aaa.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That same trip, Adams played USU to a tie at the half, and then lost by 10. Also worth noting, Adams State's coach, Louis Wilson, was an assistant for 8 years under Oliver at ISU. He also was an assistant for 6 years at SUU under Evans. The guy has the knowledge and contacts to do a better than average job of scouting teams in this region.

Relaxed. Not sure why some get over excited when the comments are real instead of filtered through purple glasses. I didn't read anyone calling for Rahe's job or wishing for the good old days of Cravens, Farmer, although, it might be a push for me with Abegglen. Rahe didn't seem especially pleased with the overall performance, you really can't expect over-hyped fans to be either. Good or bad, I enjoy hearing everyone's constructive opinions.

After a great finish (aside from the BSC 'ship) last season and tons of potential we are super excited and hungry for more this year. Listening to those who sound like they have some inside insight, I've been gulping the kool aid and was frustrated with what I saw in the exhibition game. Additionally, I'm sick to death of Weber's overall inability to compete with the zoobs. I wanted to see a team in the exhibition game that made me believe this could be the team to get that first win in Provo. I didn't see it. Anyway, I'm enjoying the successes of the Rahe era but certainly won't restrain from expressing frustrations I see either.

Players and coaches shouldn't be reading in forums such as this but if they are and can't handle negative comments with the positive, then that's their problem and illustrates why they shouldn't be in here. I'm looking forward to another great year but they better get tougher, make more FT's, and become competent in breaking even the slightest of presses. Still relaxed.

 :+1: Right on!!

Yes the offense was bumpy but I was more concerned with the lack of defense and toughness. Maybe coach needs to employ a couple of two-a-days this week to get his guys to play tougher.

Exhibition games must all take place under a full moon...

D-2 Dixie State beats UNLV at UNLV?

D-2 Seattle Pacific beats Univ of Arizona in Tucson ?

I'm sure other Exhibition games have strange results- just glad the CAts won, and the style of play was a good wakeup for BYU, where they will likely be just as physical
