All plans are for Tourney to be at Butler-Hancock

Unfortunatly winning the BCS regular season means basicly nothing. The season really starts saturday. Good luck in the tourny remeber the monkeys on UNC's back this year.

blame the ncaa for that one.

i do know one thing wsu only puts up banners for regular season titles and not for the years that we were hot for 2 days and got to the ncaa tourney.

unc got the regular season title, i envy that.

It's not the NCAA's fault (and I'm no NCAA fan), but conferences get to decide how their auto bid to the NCAA tournament is handed out. I'd actually prefer there not even be a Big Sky Conference tourney. Just send the regular season champ. If there's a tie, have a one-game playoff.

Yes that is very true but just remember one thing. This "regular season" UNC is Undefeated @ home. I'm glad we have that "monkey." We have 4 seniors who have been waiting for this opportunity and they can't wait!

I'm on that one too. Wow you guys lose and you turn into a bunch meanies. :ohno:

It's a shame that the tourney is going to be played in that high school gym over there in Greeley. That's going to make a great impression on the ESPN audience. Of course, I wouldn't mind if it's mostly empty when Weber beats NAU and cuts down the nets....

And keep dreaming!

I would've said the same thing the last two years. Until the game is over on Wednesday night, no one has accomplished anything meaningful yet.

Cat I personally thought they would do it that way. Considering it had more seating and was right off a major highway. I think that considering we have a pretty good home-court advantage at butler, they want to keep it there with the city and the students. Not to mention being safe is a big concern. Drinking and driving 20 miles away from Greeley def is reality. We serve beer at our games so they don't want any stupid students to hurt themselves or others after a possible big celebration.

i wonder if it wont be as bad as we think. there are some small conferences every year hosting in small venues. i remember vermont vs boston last yr in im sure a 3,500 type gym.

psu hosting in an empty looking nba stadium wasn't exactly brag worthy
I def agree with that one. I'm telling you a packed full stadium looks a lot more impressive then a bigger stadium with many empty seats. Trust me when Butler is packed it feels like a lot more people are there. Not to mention that the sound echos and makes it a lot louder then other arenas.

Yes sir. During football season we need a lot of it. Unfortunately beer goggles doesn't make our team any better. HA HA

you should ahve seen the dee on espn in 2009 for psu vs msu. there was about 15 people in the stadium me included.

Hmmm.. If Weber makes it to Wednesday, I might just have to make the drive over. And yes, beer is playing a role in that decision.

Yeah I remember that very well. That PSU team was really good, until they had play KU in the first round.
But I think that is far more embarrassing then having a full "high school arena."

I made that drive a couple years ago to Ogden. Not a bad drive and the more the merrier. Whats one more person in our sardine can of arena. HA HA

it is still 3 times bigger than sac and double psu ya?

In 2001 or was it 2000...the Sky let Northridge host the tourny in their gym. Its smaller than Stott...So??? They kept braggin that they added seats too. I think the conference championship game had like 2,010 fans at the game and they were happy about it. I couldn't stop laughing at Northridge. Good Ole Marcus Carr, JimmyDfor3 and him got ina slight argument at the end of a home game against Northridge. Hilarious...he hurt his ankle and JimmyD kept yelling crap about him being a pansy and how he had no skill, and shiz like that. Carr got up and started telling him that he could walk, but that Weber was so bad, that they didn't need him abilities to help them win. Great times!!

I wouldnt be suprised that after the Big Sky loses alot of money by letting UNC host in Butler-Hancock, that the Big Sky wont allow them to do it again until they either A. Build a new bigger arena, (which if UNC keeps up the winning is possible), or B. Host it somewhere else other than Butler-Hancock, somewhere bigger where they can fit more than 2,800 fans and get more money since thats what the Big Sky tourney is all about apparently.

I dont have a problem with UNC hosting, but I do have a problem with them hosting in Butler-Hancock with as small as it is and with as much money the Big Sky will lose.

On a getting money side note, if the Big Sky was smart they would host the semi finals and final on a friday and saturday instead of a tuesday-wednesday.

They have it on Tues-Wed so the championship game can be on ESPN2. And the conference doesn't lose money (they get a guaranteed amount from the hosting school), it's the hosting school that loses money.

Here is a better idea: kill the whole freaking tournament. I like this remark regarding Utah St and the WAC from si.com and think it sums up my feelings exactly: "The bubble's likely too weak to see USU dinged at this point, but I hope they win the auto bid so some thoroughly undeserving team doesn't litter the bracket. This league is Exhibit A for the ridiculousness of smaller conferences holding tournaments. Just send your best team."

Yeah thats what I figured, if the Big SKy could they probably would.

I also am getting to the point where I am wanting the Big Sky to drop the tourney, instead of playing and fighting for a right to host the conf tourney they could fight for the right to just GO the the Big Dance. That way the conf sends its best and a 5 or 6th seed who has the game of thier lives in the conf championship doesnt go.

My only worry is dropping the tourney might dis-interest alot of fans during the reg season.

I don't think that dropping the tourney would dis-interest a lot of fans during the reg season. If anything, it would make the regular season championship mean so much more and the battle for the championship much more exciting. That would add much more interest to games involving teams still fighting for the championship. And lets face it, the fans of the teams in this league who won't be fighting for the championship don't care about the games now.

And as seen by the meager crowds at the last two year's championship games and the first two games of this year's tournament, it doesn't look to me like there is much interest in the tournament anyway.

Here's an idea: When SUU and ND join the league, add additional conference games (at least 2, or maybe 4) to make up for not having a tournament.

You make a great point, usually the only fans drawing any fans to reg season home games are the top 3, everyone else not so much, and now that I think about what you said playing for a right to go straight to the dance would bring more excitement to the conf race.

Or if the Sky was to have a tourney, they should only send the top 4 NOT top 6 get rid of the bye's, get rid of the qf games and only have the 2 semi's and the final at the reg season champ's house.
I also like your idea about when SUU and NDU join, I'd go for that.

It has been debated for a long time. I think it boils down to the TV money for the league. I does keep the interest of non-front running teams in it a little longer. Maybe, not as many coaches get fired.
