Another Beau Baldwin scare

Wow, I am truly shocked that BB has not been snagged by and FBS school as of yet. He is obviously a tremendous coach and a very high character person. I am so thankful for every moment he has spent with EWU, and will do nothing but cheer him on when he finally gets a shot at the next level. It just seems the stars haven't aligned that direction yet. I can't help but feel irritated that Oregon State and Nevada haven't taken that shot on him, but as others have said, there is the selfish side of me that wants to relish every year we have Beau Baldwin as the face of Eagles football. And heck, a 212k a year job is a pretty dang good job for the inland NW.

Any chance that the fact Baldwin would not be ready to commit 100% focus to the Nevada program immediately due to coaching EWU as far as we go played a part on their decision? Could you see them telling Beau if he wanted the job, he had to start immediately, and he told them regardless of the cost, he wasn't going to leave the team hanging?

Who knows, but I would love to know what happened, especially when they Nevada fan base seemed so enamored with Baldwin.

A huge win for us. I'm excited that we get to keep Baldwin for at least one more season. I think that some better jobs will be open next season for him to consider.

ewueagle2010,
I agree with all your comments, I also think Coach did turn the position down. He is that type of a Coach. He know what he has at present, and he must think of how his wife and family feel. You have a graduation coming up in a few days, give her my best, will see her when she get back to EWU, on her beat. She will be working for an "Outstanding Chief", Great Officers and Cadets. Maybe see you this weekend at the Game. Congratulations to your wife for that hard Police Academy Class, also congratulations to you for being there for all help that she needed. Vic Wallace

Bahaha Nevada you idiots!!!

Well we/I sure got worked up over this. Yet another example of not believing everything you read on the internets. Glad we have him back for now at least.

I'm glad Baldwin didn't go to Nevada, not because I don't want to see him move on at some point and succeed, because it will happen, but because he can land a job so much better than Nevada.

According to 90% of the people posting in this thread.

Comfort, quality of life, winning, control, top 5 program and job security < Money.

It's just how it Works Nevada is a way bigger name than we are with better facilities an better conference affiliation if he wants to make it to the PAC 12 this is his fastest option

Better conference, yes. Better program...debatable. Eastern is roughly 50 spots higher in the Sagarin ratings this year, but even if you take the competitive aspect away, Nevada isn't comparable to really any Pac 12 program. I will agree that success in the MWC could translate to a P12 HC position, but there is a LOT of risk involved with a program like Nevada.

Personally, I'm shocked that they didn't offer CBB and think they've made a big mistake even though I love the staff we have here and selfishly hope they stay as long as possible. Still, as we all know, it's only a matter of time...

I was convinced he was gone when I saw the other two candidates resumes. The idea that CBB turned it down makes sense. Makes more sense than UN taking a candidate with no HC experience.

Looks like we get CBB for another year at least. Still believe he will leave at some point which makes getting the stadium/facilities addressed is critical while he's still here so EWU can draw a top coach when CBB does leave.

There's no denying that Beau will be on the move soon. That's the nature of being an FCS school. With Harsin getting some consideration from Oregon and McIntyre getting consideration from Baylor, I'd say a much better opportunity will open up for Beau next year.

My guess is that Baldwin would only take the job on contingency. This is not uncommon. In other words, he may have said something to the effect of "I'll take the job at the pay you outline, but ONLY if you increase the football budget by 15%." Simply taking the job without qualifying how the program will be run can be an issue. If the university isn't committed to success, it's better to know that before accepting the job.

Based on all the stuff I have been reading over the last week, I actually think that they chose the ASU coach over Beau based on Chris Ault's input. Chris Ault is the "Godfather" of Nevada football and he has tremendous pull there. He has been characterized by some as the "Little General" because it is his way or no way. He was also brought on as an advisor for the hiring of the new Nevada coach.

The guy from ASU that Nevada hired was friends with Ault according USA Today and other sources. "Norvell also has a relationship with former Nevada head coach Chris Ault, who helped athletic director Doug Knuth in the hiring process. After resigning from Nevada in December 2012, Ault spent a portion of spring camp in 2013 at Oklahoma teaching the Sooners the Pistol offense when Norvell was on staff."

I think Norvell was recruited by Ault and came a little later in the process, and was why he was the "mystery candidate." I believe that Norvell, being Ault's guy, plays into that "general" narrative and makes sense that Chris Ault would want a guy running "his" program that he would have more control over. Beau would be running his own program and be less likely to do it exactly how Ault would want it.

I might be way off on this, but that is how I think it all went down and why Coach Baldwin got passed over. Good for Eastern and bad for Nevada.
