I'm bored and I'm in need of some football discussion. Anyone have any info on how summer work-outs are going? Any new transfers coming in? Who's going to start at QB against Adams St? Any thing??????

well, i believe there working harder than summers past. and having an open qb spot can only make the whole team better as all 3 qb's compete for the week 1 start. until we see some passing league contest, i don't think we'll know anything other than who's showing up and working hard, and who's just ridding along.....
the only scuttle butt i've heard out of nottingham are a couple of inellagable's. but i don't know who.

the new facility's are looking fabulous! final touches going on as we speek! they'll be first class for sure and a source of great motivation for anyone walking thru, or seeing it! looks like they be open for use by the time all kids show up on campus! on this this subject i give a hardy 'good job!'

I guess there's some every year. I hope it's no one too important.

I read something recently that said the University of Montana is hiring a firm to do a feasibility study about Montana moving to the FBS subdivision. I believe it said they're going to spend about $25,000 to do the study. The following is an excerpt from an article that appeared in the "Cat-Griz Insider" from the Billings Gazette.

MONTANA TO REPLACE BOISE STATE IN WAC, yet it says nothing definitive:

Reports have mentioned Montana, a member of the Big Sky Conference, as a possible candidate. Akey said the Grizzlies make sense for the WAC geographically. Yet moving from the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) to the NCAA's highest division is "quite an expenditure," the UI coach noted.

Asked about the perception of the WAC now that Boise State is leaving, Akey said, "To really give you an answer on that, we've got to see where we are when the dust settles."

Meanwhile, the Reno Gazette-Journal breaks down a few other possibilities for the Western Athletic Conference, writing:

The Grizzlies are perhaps the most attractive possibility, but it would probably take some convincing to get them to move to the FBS. Montana has balked at such opportunities in the past. If a second WAC school were to leave (Louisiana Tech?), the WAC might be able to convince Montana and Montana State to come on board.
End of Article

If this does happen and both Montana schools leave the Big Sky, any ideas about who would be good realistic possibilities to replace them? I'm thinking that maybe Cal Davis and Cal Poly might be good fits. Or is three California schools too many? I wouldn't mind going to Cali a couple of times during the season for away games.

A little something else. The Billings Gazette, Cat-Griz Insider has rankings 1-10 of the top players at their respective positions in the Big Sky this coming season. Several UNC players are ranked in the top 10. Just click on the link below and it should take you to the articles and rankings.

Every year Montana talks about how they could dominate the WAC but instead they just dominate the Big Sky... it's not going to happen.

there is at 1 kid coming from csu, and another from cu. so i have been told, nothing official here. i heard they are both deffensive secondary players. keep working hard coaches!

I've seen a few new names on the roster, like a transfer from Ft. Hays State. Unless that's old news, I haven't kept up with things lately.

You said you wanted to hear anything, so as far as recruiting, Lex Smith's 2011 teammate out of Denver East is listing UNC in his top three.
He's looking at three instate schools right now. You can guess the other two. Heard he visited Greeley earlier in the summer to tour the campus.

Miles MacKenzie, Kicker/punter. Pretty decent one.

Here are his youtube highlights. He was blasting kickoffs through the uprights, so not bad.

Thanks for the post Faster. Is Lex in Greeley yet working out with the team? I hope most stayed around Greeley to work out with each other.

This is only grapevine stuff, but I heard Lex had a summer job and would be joining the team later in the summer, but wasn't there for June and much of July.

"Heard that Seth Lebato, QB, has enrolled and will begin working out with the team next week"

i heard the same from a few of the guys. hmm. wonder if he's walking on or? he did'nt like the switch at cu from qb to wr in the spring. he did'nt get a offer from cu either. he was a '2a' player with success in both football and basketball. maybe he 'll be a dual sporter here? we could use a 5th qb for scrimmaging/practice for sure. maybe we will continue the approach of a te/wr? i never thought he was a d1 or 1-aa type qb. more of a mesa st type of guy. but, i understand having desire, but is he chasing a dream a bit? we clearly don't have a front runner at qb today. i would imagine that is going to change quickly. he'll be severly behind the curve with the other guys and coach 'pete's' offense. i say 'good' but, we have a need at rb immediatley, as well as some other areas. bottom line, it can't hurt the competion level at all positions....

I think we're loaded at RB. It's in the trenches that I'm worried about (again). Labato won't get a snap here either. I agree he's more like a Mesa St guy.

Where did you get the idea that we're loaded at RB? Our best RB, IMO, is not eligible this fall from what I hear. Another of our RB's did not live up to the pre-season hype and would have been 3rd on the depth chart this season if all were playing. That leaves one RB who should see the majority of the action. After that we're probably looking at an average RB at best and freshmen.
Defensively in the trenches we'll be the best we've ever been. Offensively, if we stay healthy, we'll be fine. There's a lot of experience up front this season and the new o-line coach will demand a lot from this group.

Is it Harris or Robinson that's ineligible? Either way, I'm not concerned because we were so bad at the running game. I think Morton can carry the load.

Neither one.

That's actually pretty good news, I saw him play a few time at Eaton. He's pretty much all they had and he took them to the playoffs. I think he has the talent to compete at this level, good size for sure. Not saying he's going to come in a compete for a starting job right away but he'll definitely add some depth. Even though he played at the 2A level, like I've said before there are some hidden gems at that level.
