Anything???

Signing Labato in no way improves our team. In high school he was a good QB in a very water-downed league. I doubt he will be anything more than a decent back up.

[ i say 'good' but, we have a need at rb immediatley, as well as some other areas. bottom line, it can't hurt the competion level at all positions....[/quote]

hopefully, hopefully ,we have a few more kids coming in that can compete and help out. again, who's got information. i am running dry, lol. we should know more in the next 30 days as to who's on board. one foul-up for sure is the kid montana signed at rb last week. jordon canada. he went to the same high school as cameron deen, but we could'nt set the hook with him. really too bad. he had a mid major d1 offer after his junior year and was deemed ineligable by cif his senior year. the kid, so i am told, could play ball at our level. we missed a good one there . coaches i'm sure tried there best to get him.........

so , i believe it becomes our duty here to find out what is going on and to help make us a better football program all around. we can all jump in and help in one way or another! i'm still amazed that no-one in talking about the new facility's. again i say, they're f-ing awesome!

I don't think most people on here have access to the new facilities so not much to say, the website has some info but hasn't been updated in over a month so until we know more it's hard to have an opinion.

Brandon Owens a CSU cb is coming to Greeley. So with Laboto and Owens we have two guys that will probably not contribute much to this team. We are deep at both CB and QB positions. I was hoping we would hear about some depth being added to the o-line. As far as the running game is concerned, I'm disappointed Burnely isn't playing this fall but he wasn't starting during the spring. I think we still have a good 1-2 punch with Robinson and Harris and Josh Morton, if he plays up to his expectations from HS should contribute as well.

As far as the facilities, I'm sure anyone can get a tour of them if they just go through the athletic department. I'm not doing that because I refuse to talk to Hinrichs until he responds to some of my emails. That guy has horrible PR skills.

I think you are wrong. UNC may have a gem here. I know some guys at CU and they said he was very good.
If you don't follow the QB "situation" in Boulder, you'd assume Lobato didn't get a shot because he wasn't talented. It's more complicated than that. Let's just say it's a huge hot button with the fans the way it's been decided. Or rather, not decided.

The reality is, for possibly another agenda entirely, they have pushed everybody out of the QB position (something like 7 or 8 QBs have moved positions or left the program in last two years.)

Seth was highly thought of by the players... don't count him out. He's a talented athlete including being named 2A first-team all-state quarterback by The Denver Post, and a standout in both track and basketball.

I agree, I feel he's a decent pick up for UNC. You can't just walk on to CU football team without being invited. I thought I saw an article where he was making some progression on the depth charts as well.

Why else would he come to UNC? Probably because someone told him that he could come and possibly compete for a starting job or back-up. On the other hand he could come in here and do jack shit. I don't think you should count the guy out though.

He didn't play in a watered down league, I'm not saying this because I played for a patriot league school but the Patriot league is one of the best league in state of Colorado at the 2A/3A level. In all sports.

No depth is good, the staff has been using injuries as an excuse the last couple years for losing so much so with more depth they'll sound more foolish continuing to use that excuse, not that it will stop them I'm guessing.

What's your deal Blo? "the staff has been using injuries as an excuse the last couple of years".
Are you saying that the team didn't have 3 linemen with broken legs last year, that we didn't lose our two starting receivers in the first game of the year, that John Eddy didn't have a hamstring injury?
Yes, I heard the head coach say that there were a lot of injuries last season but that's not the staff and there really were a lot of injuries. Don't know of too many teams who could have lost this many starters and finished in the top half of their conference.
I will say that the staff is conditioning the team much more this year and that unlike last year the linemen are being required to wear leg braces.

To be in the top half of the conference, we need to be two-deep at every position. Just because injuries will happen. I'm still concerned about our depth on o-line and d-line. Some of you are saying we will be better at d-line, but I'll wait to see the product on the field. We've been god-awful in the trenches on both sides for a long time, I just don't have confidence.

Also because CU inexplicably took quarterback Clark Evans and made him a tight end, QB Josh Moten was moved to cornerback, and 6'5" Seth Lobato was moved to ... safety (seriously?) after CU's spring game. Supposedly the move was his decision, but if that's true, he had a change of heart.

He won't have to sit out a year at UNC.

More details on Seth's decision here.http://www.coloradodaily.com/ci_15537348#axzz0txK6ZTWe

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Eaton High School product told the Tribune that he believes he will have a better chance to compete for playing time at quarterback in Greeley.

Lobato joined the Buffs last fall as a preferred walk-on, and redshirted. He has four years of eligibility remaining and won`t have to sit out a year because he is dropping down from the Football Bowl Subdivision to the Football Championship Subdivision.

I feel the D-line will be ok. I agree with the O-line though, that's probably the biggest weak spot of the team. Pretty much lack everything there depth, size and experience. But I hear the new O-Line coach is miles ahead what we had.

Every team has injuries, ineligible players, bad breaks, adversity to over come, when you buy into the excuses you accept them and that's how you end up winning one game a year, it's a culture of losing.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, a culture of losing as enveloped the football program... I don't see the urgency to compete, we seem content to come up with a bunch of reasons why we lost instead of not accepting it.

I would point to the basketball program as an example of the opposite. Did Boyle excuse losing or did he resolve to win?

Good coaching is a plus, but until we get some good hogs up front we will continue to be poor on offense.

Well luckily this is the biggest we have been on the oline in years. good sized guards and two tackles over 6'6. a couple of them are over 300 lbs now.I would be more concerned about the qb situation at this point

I don't know that I agree with your statement about depth, size and experience. You have at least the starting 5 o-linemen with experience as starters. You have McGraw, Barbiez, and Shapiro with at least two years of starting experience. You have Gumbs and Candler who played in multiple games as either a backup or starter. Then there are some new players coming in who might be able to contribute right away as well as a few RS freshmen and sophomores. As far as size is concerned. My educated guess is that the starting 5 will average close to 300 lbs and I've heard they are putting themselves in position to set some records in the weight room. I'll admit that it's probably depth that's the biggest concern if some of the starters get injured. I kind of have a feeling though that Bidell has been working the FBS drop-down ranks and the JC ranks to bring in some talent that can contribute right away to the o-line.
I agree with whoever said that it's probably QB that's going to determine how well the offense does this year. I've heard that the players like all of the QB's but surprisingly I've heard Dean's name mentioned quite often. What I'm wondering is if Peterson will use a two QB system with either Baca and Orms or Orms and Dean? Should be interesting and it all gets started in about 3 weeks. Really looking forward to info on this board by those who are able to attend fall practices on a regular basis.
A speedster at running back would be a welcome addition too.

Ya you're right, I didn't realize how much was coming back this year. I've always felt UNC's line has lacked size compared to the other teams in the Bigsky.

I agree I think Bidell well help tons with recruiting o-linemen.

I'm wondering the same thing Beardown, is Schwindt still on the team? He's not on the roster anymore.

its nice to see people getting excited on here for unc bears football!!! :D lets work hard to keep it up and get even more fans of unc football on the sounding board and out to games as well!! as i have been saying, the future is looking bright-er at unc!!

as far as the recent topics, bryce will be back on campus and on roster for fall. i believe he is at our local jc for summer school. but, another pick-up or two would'nt hurt us abit on the o-line. the new kids coming in should help out, but i think bidell might be trying to hook a jc transfer or two, well see in the next few weeks for sure.

running back is going to be the 'dre' show. andre has become stronger and a bit bigger. he'll have to be in great shape to carry the load for the season as i can't tell how much time the other guys will get. morton is good, but still undersized for a year-long season grind. but, unless we get a diamond in the rough before the fall. he may be our best #2 guy there. we really missed a good one with the kid who went to montana last week from southern cal.

qb still seems wide open with all the 3 guys getting stronger and smarter. the deen kid does seem to be getting alot of the compliments of the staff at this point. they had a 7 on 7 with csu-pueblo saturday. i have'nt talked to anyone yet about how it went. more to come on that! i like the deen kid for the long term fill at the position. yes, he might have a tough time of it this year while he, and our new o.c. learn the system, and what we are up against, but what a future we would have!!!

i like the out of state-ers we have now. they seem like they are adjusting pretty well and all want to be competing for quality time if not starting somewhere. i truly believe this is a good thing for our programs success now, and in the future. it's a tough change for these guys and, from the little time i have talked to them all, i like what i hear! good job coaches for finding kids that will survive in northern colorado. not always the 'best place on earth', lol....

another fantastic observation i have is this, this whole team is in much better physical shape than the last few years. you can hear it from the kids themselves. the strongest line we've had in years? most all the hands positiions working together most all of summer? working hard on core strength as well as excellent conditioning too? wow! this is a very good thing....

fight on to victory bears! the future is now at unc!

I attended the passing game on Saturday and Baca looked real good. He had a couple of TD passes and moved the team up and down the feild. Deen also looked very good. He did not have a TD pass, but he also moved the team very well. Orms did not have the best day, but I am sure he will look better once summer ball starts. Hard to evaluate Labato. He did have a TD pass, but the ball was not thrown particualry well, and the reciever had to make a great play on the ball. As you would expect, the defense looked stellar. The offense overall looked much improved, as they seem to be picking up the offense. I was very impressed with the RB. They made many impressive catchs out the of backfiled.

It would be interesting to hear from others, but from what I saw we looked better than I would have expected

Good stuff Rocky and Lippy, keep it coming. I haven't been in Greeley much this summer, so I haven't had the chance to get over there.
