ASU vs Weber

Over 300 total yards, and Zac Smith goes for 128. Shaydon Kehano 99 yrd and Livingston could have been up there as well when he was just missed when he was open. Much improved.. Catch a few more balls and make a freaking tackle and we may have added another. Overall much more optimistic about this year

I'm proud of this team for playing their tails off and not giving up!!! So much to learn from the game, but also a lot to be excited about!

WeAreWeber!

That is what I wanted to see. Weber never gave up and played hard until the end. Very encouraging! Weber had to gain some confidence from that game last night.

Very proud of the way this team battled all night. They will definitely surprise some teams in the Big Sky this season. GO WILDCATS!!! Bring on the Bison
p.s. The Bison's game vs Iowa St is on tv this Saturday in case you want to catch a glimpse.

Two big positives from the game were 0 turnovers and no major injuries. ASU had forced a turnover in 28 straight games before last night.

Pretty rough start offensively for the 'Cats, especially some of Green's throws but, overall, I like what I saw and the system and play calling was a million times better than last year. Maybe one exception to that is where the TD was overturned and they couldn't punch it in. They had a great drive going, were mixing plays nicely, and then let ASU pack it in three straight times-- I didn't like that one. Smith is going to have a BIG year, Green should settle in with an improving team and do well, and it's great to see (?SP)Kehano look healthy and impress us with his talent again.

Defensively, Weber was pretty outmatched but you gotta love the heart and fight they had. I didn't see anyone quit or coast, they mixed it up the best they could. I gotta agree with other posts on the arm tackling, hopefully the coaching staff can make improvements there.

On both sides of the ball, it was apparent the overall difference in speed, size, athleticism and experience, and despite that Weber stayed with it and made a commendable showing. After two F[BS] games last year and not playing a top 20 team, it was Weber 0, opponents 140, but it looked and felt even worse than that. This 31 point loss, even with ASU letting up in the 2nd half, still left me with much optimism and excitement for the season. Weber should be competitive this season and I'm betting will exceed expectations. Coach Hill and staff have got this ship righted and it's now just a matter of time. GO WEBER!

Very impressed with how the team looked and played last night. Really, the Cats scored three TDs. Granted, Kelly went out at halftime, but their main players were in for three quarters. Sloppy at points. Some really bad calls. Helam Heimuli recovered the Green fumble in the end zone. Last I checked, that's a TD. So, in my mind it was really 45-21. Not bad. I'll take it. Now we just need new uniforms.

Have to hand it to you guys. Your team played their hearts out. Those FBS transfers and new coaches have you guys heading in the right direction. Your defense is vastly improved. Future is looking good for you guys. Maybe even a winning season in the cards for you. I wished ASU would have played Kelly more than just one half, but we got our Freshman backs some good playing time last night. You guys not turning the ball over was also very impressive. Good luck the rest of the way.

Based on what we've now seen with the new 'Cats, is anyone else optimistic that they could pull off a 6-6 season? I think it takes several games for the new system/players to settle in, but I'm liking their chances for the following wins:
@Sac (toss-up) - Sears is bound to screw up what's been working at Sacto.
@SUU - They got this win before as a worse team and Hill pilfered their staff.
CP (toss-up) - At home and CP gots players in jail and/or suspended.
PSU (toss-up) - If an improving D can slow down a powerful O (see ASU), maybe steal this one at home.
@UND - If Weber is able to make it to the game, they should have a great chance in this one.
UNCO - Don't see NoCo as being too much better than they have been.
@ISU - As an OHS grad, it's similar to OHS vs BL, both have stuggled mightily and you want to feel bad when your hated rival is continually curb-stomped (even by you), then you don't.

Two of three toss-ups and I believe a real chance at 6-6. Thoughts? Rebutles? Name calling?

I think that it is fair to say that is the best defense and offence we will see all year. The arm tackling that has been mentioned is partly a consequence of their superior speed. The difference between a good solid tackle and an arm tackle is a small fraction of a second. We aspire to have that kind of speed and so does everyone else in the country. Give this coaching staff a few more years and we will be back to competing even better in this sort of game. :thumb: :thumb:

ooh, I like it. I will go with 6-6. I think we can do that. That's my hope anyway. The no turnovers is HUGE. Need receivers who will catch the ball and the DBs sounded not so good (listened on the radio). Let's see how coach deals with those issues. Sounded like the team was toughing it out for the most part.

I was at the game and I will tell you that the DB's were the best part o the "D". Linebackers leave a lot to be desired. Constantly out-of-position and missed numerous tackles. Actually, I think the defense overall looked pretty good. The problem is that we have Big Sky level and Lower Div 1 level athletes while ASU had high division 1 athletes, many of whom are headed to "the league". That was the difference in the game. WSU was well coached… better than their best game last year. Better by far. They kept their heads about them, stayed focused on trying to play within the system and their skill set. We did not get outplayed… we got out-quicked and out-athleted. It was too be expected. But as the game wore on I was pleased with how Weber's guys adjusted to the speed of the game and started missing far fewer tackles, how they began opening holes and gaining some ground yardage. Overall they did an admirable job in protecting the passer and keeping him from being pressured too much. Billy Green stayed calm in the face of an aggressive attack and never gave the ball away. Their are lots of positives to be taken away from this game. This team is going to be very competitive against Big Sky level competition. The coaching staff has won me over. They know what they are doing. Light years ahead in ability to the previous staff. By the way, the arm tackling was definitely the result of superior quickness. Our guys would be in position to make a solid tackle and all of a sudden they were lunging right or left to try and grab the guy who had just made an unbelievable move to make tackling him extremely difficult. A ball carrier's superior quickness always makes a tackler look silly.

I'd have to agree to disagree. Yes ASU had superior athletes but watching their running back run into 5 of our guys then spin off all of them and run for six was not being a better athlete. That was poor poor tackling. Some plays were guys running and diving with their arms to make a tackle and that won't stop anyone in the big sky let alone asu. Yes they made some good moves to elude some tackles but let's make the ones were supposed to make and tip our hat when needs be
