Pretty rough start offensively for the 'Cats, especially some of Green's throws but, overall, I like what I saw and the system and play calling was a million times better than last year. Maybe one exception to that is where the TD was overturned and they couldn't punch it in. They had a great drive going, were mixing plays nicely, and then let ASU pack it in three straight times-- I didn't like that one. Smith is going to have a BIG year, Green should settle in with an improving team and do well, and it's great to see (?SP)Kehano look healthy and impress us with his talent again.
Defensively, Weber was pretty outmatched but you gotta love the heart and fight they had. I didn't see anyone quit or coast, they mixed it up the best they could. I gotta agree with other posts on the arm tackling, hopefully the coaching staff can make improvements there.
On both sides of the ball, it was apparent the overall difference in speed, size, athleticism and experience, and despite that Weber stayed with it and made a commendable showing. After two F[BS] games last year and not playing a top 20 team, it was Weber 0, opponents 140, but it looked and felt even worse than that. This 31 point loss, even with ASU letting up in the 2nd half, still left me with much optimism and excitement for the season. Weber should be competitive this season and I'm betting will exceed expectations. Coach Hill and staff have got this ship righted and it's now just a matter of time. GO WEBER!
