Please don’t misunderstand my post. I used Melaleuca & the others as examples. If the guy supports BYU, then find some else. What about Union Pacific Railroad, AT&T for example. There are oportunities for these companies to invest in ISU and the community. Maybe Albertsons would have an interest in naming. Maybe Costco or Winco. Someone just needs the throw it out there, show these companies what it means to ISU and the community. Who knows, maybe there are tax benefits, too. It may be an effective way to get the improvements and upgrades.

Regarding updating and improvements of Holt, is there an opportunity for naming rights? Albertsons has BSU's football stadium naming rights for a period of time. Frankly, I'm too lazy to look it up. But, there is a chunk of money that they pay to BSU each year. Just a block or two away from Albertsons Stadium, they've decided to renovate the better part of a city block to create a new, innovative Albertsons store with a sit down restaurant (if I understand it correctly). They want to be part of the gameday experience. Albertsons has bought into the BSU football for the long term. BSU has Lyle Smith Field inside Albertsons Stadium. My point is maybe there is a naming opportunity. Why not hit up Melaleuca, Portneuf, Bingham Memorial or say one of the national contractors out at the site for the stadium or the field name? Just throwing numbers... $15 million for say, 10 years of naming rights. If my Idaho Falls math is still relevant, that's $1.5 million each year for 10 years. Why not do the same with Reed Gym? It's similar to Idaho Central's commitment to the Vandals and their dream basketball venue. If a windfall like this can jump start facility updates, why not pursue this?

If ISU had a national presence on TV, like semi-regular appearances on ESPN, then receiving that kind of money for naming rights is a possibility. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen. UVU is in the final few years of a $2.5M 10 year naming rights deal for their arena. Last year, SUU signed a $1.5M deal for 10 years for naming rights on its arena. About 3 years ago, Northern Colorado signed a naming right deal worth $1.5M deal for 15 years on its arena. Those are the type of figures you'd be looking at.
Something is better than nothing, in my opinion. It's worth checking out at least. I have heard in the past that one thing the dome has going for it is its visibility from I-15. Especially with summer traffic heading north-south, the dome would provide great advertising for somebody.

One thing a few of us have joked about in the past is to sell naming rights to somebody like Coke. Have them paint the dome to resemble a can of Coke or whatever. Have fun with it and have fun with the people that call it a tin can.

For any of you that believe that ISU Athletics isn't doing anything to try and raise some major dollars, why don't you give Joe Borich at call at 208-282-3447 and arrange to meet with him and talk about how busy he is as being the guy tasked with doing just what you're talking about. Joe came to ISU two years ago with good fund-raising experience. He's working his butt off. There really should be 2 or 3 people like him doing what he's doing, but again, dollars. Success is a process that he's going through. You're also right that we don't have the plethora of donors waiting in line to write a check like Boise State does.

I’m sure Joe Borich is doing his best in raising much needed funding for ISU athletics. My posts are not meant to be a slam on anyone. Instead, I was responding to this thread’s conversation about big buck funding to jump start improvements to ISU facilities. If someone took my comments differently, please accept my apology.

Back to naming rights... U of I recently received a promise of $10 million for naming rights for their basketball facility. Idaho Central CU’s name will be used for 35 years or do. If Idaho..., Idaho can get something like that, it seems to reason that ISU could get something like that. For what it’s worth, BSU’s Taco Bell Arena getting a new sponsor since Taco Bell will not renew their naming rights. They paid BSU $200k each year. The amount increased in the later years of their contract. They had the rights for 15 years for a $4 million commitment. Albertsons is paying $12.5 million for 15 years for the stadium rights. I don’t know how that’s broken down... lump sum, annual payments or some kind of combination. Again, it’s not Simplot millions but it’s a way to get some type of windfall to help jump start some of the projects.

A billboard & a Coke can??? Are you serious!? That’s all you can think of?

$2.5 million could go a long way to update Idaho State’s football stadium & men’s basketball arena. If UNC (which was a Div II 15 years ago) can get a naming rights deal done, surely ISU can too.
