BSC Tournament?

Sooooo, it's very early.... But, Macriss has to be wondering where and how the hell the Hornets would be able to host the BSC tournament if they finish with the best record in the BSC. The Nest is too small and the agreement has always been that the Hornets would need to find a bigger venue if they ever host. That is usually Arco/Sleep Train/Magic Bean Arena, but it's booked up this year. Who the hell knows if Memorial could host? UC Davis? Ewwwwwwww.... Oracle? $$$$$...

Anyways, someone posed this question on Twitter, so I thought I'd see if anyone knew what plan B, C, or D was..

It would be a national embarrassment to be forced to host this thing in a HS or JC gym.... Hell, maybe that's what we'd need to get an arena..

A bitter sweet situation to think about.

We are still currently at the bottom of the big Sky in home attendance this year with PSU. Our top crowd is 902 last Sat. against EWU. Wonder if people are not turning out because they think they might not get in with the success so far of the Hornets.

Bummed that we have a facility that will not be allowed to host a Big Sky tourney. Remember years ago when 1,600 fans were somehow squeezed into Hornet Gym for the Oregon State game. 1,600 screaming Hornet fans for a Big Sky tourney game would be amazing. And maybe , just maybe, the attention to our facility situation would end up as a positive.

Just sad to think we would have to host at an off campus site. But then again no complaining about winning the Big Sky and being host somewhere. That would be a beautiful thing.

And, yes, a long way to go. 12 games still ahead of us and everyone now gunning for Sac State basektball teams. And many very good opponents that we will be facing with respect and Sac State Pride!!

Looking forward to both teams facing Idaho State and Weber State coming up.

And best of luck to our student athletes as they begin the spring semester this week and hit the books again.

Go Hornets

Well, now that we've brought up the tourney, we either won't be hosting, or won't be making it

After what I've seen so far, I'd guess that we're looking at. 2 or a 3 seed anyways.

I can only hope your as right this year as you were last year Kadeezy

I hadn't thought about this but what if the Men's AND Women's teams both win conference titles.....then BOTH TOURNAMENTS WOULD HAVE TO BE HOSTED BY SAC ST, Question is Where will they hold BOTH of these tourneys? We may need to find 2 facilities large enough to host.

Even if the powers that be allowed us to host ONE at The Nest (they won't, but just for argument's sake, let's assume yes), there's NO WAY that BOTH would be allowed to happen there. Just based on my experience with the Big West Tournament (understanding, of course, that the CONFERENCE oversaw the logistics and had an entire year to do it, vice a couple of weeks for a host school in the Sky), one facility, if large enough and scheduled wisely, COULD handle both. The BWC did it for years at the Anaheim Convention Center, and then moved over to The Pond. Sleep Train would serve. As I noted before, Stockton Arena COULD handle the crowds, but parking would be a HUGE issue, but wouldn't really be much of one at Sleep Train. The problem with parking at Sleep Train, though, is that the proceeds (not to mention the proceeds from the snack bar) would likely be retained by Sleep Train (that is, the proprietors). While this would serve as a stop-gap, this really underscores how badly we absolutely MUST get an on-campus arena capable of handling crowds of this nature. And don't think that it would be sitting dormant during the off-season; we'd have VB, gymnastics, and concerts in there. Heck, we could even get WWE and UFC in a legit on-campus arena. So, we CAN host RIGHT NOW (should we qualify to do so), but I'm sure we all agree that hosting would be MUCH easier logistically if we had a legit on-campus arena.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves folks. While there is plenty of reason to be excited about both hoops programs, we are only 1/3 of the way through BSC play and have plenty of tough games on the schedule and 3 other teams have only 1 BSC loss. Plus everyone is going to be gunning for the Hornets so they will have targets on their backs from this point on and that will be something new for both programs.

Having said that, if the Hornets win the regular season crown then under no circumstance should the BSCT be played outside of the Sac area. Whether it’s Memorial Auditorium, the convention enter, a local JC or HS then so be it. The dungpile venue is not an option so that shouldn’t even be a consideration. If the BSC doesn’t like the embarrassment this would cast on the conference then tough sh!t, they can go kick rocks (or figure out a neutral site plan for every BSCT here on out).

The conspiracy theorist side of me thinks the BSC will find a way to make sure the Hornets don’t win the BSC regular season crown. The officiating has been horrid this season (and in the past) so nothing would surprise me.

This.

understandable that this topic has been brought up.

It will all work out as our Hornets fight each and every game forward.

Best of luck against Idaho State tomorrow night.

Our Hornets are an excellent team and it all starts with them and how they show up from game to game.

So proud that they are fighting every game to be the best they can be

They are an excellent team and do our fight song proud.

"Fight on Sacramento State
Fight on to victory"

Believe in this team and believe they will fight each and every game forward. They fight just as hard as any other team they face. And they are just as good and just as deserving as any Big Sky team. 19 years in the Big Sky is amazing and the Hornets deserve all the best.

Sac State Pride.

and forgot to mention that it seems pretty consistent on all Big Sky fan boards that officiating is not very good in this conference. So our Hornets likely know that and will adjust as they need to and stay out of foul trouble. And trusting that the officials will do their jobs with integrity to the best of their abilities and treat Sac State and all our opponents equally.

The officials aren't assigned only to the Big Sky; I've seen several of the ones who have worked our games working games in the Pac 12, WCC, MWC and Big West. We've had some of the best officials in the country work our games too because I've seen them working March Madness games. It's impossible to get all the calls right in hoops and I don't think fans should expect them too. Bad calls usually even out through the course of the game anyway. The coaches and players make more mistakes than the officials do.

See that a committee will be recommending to the Big Sky university Presidents a proposal to put the Big Sky basketball tourney in a preset sight potential beginning in 2016 and all 12 teams will be included so all schools can set travel plans in advance

If memory serves me correct the sites include

The University of Montana
EWU
NAU
UNC
WSU
Billings, Montana
and Reno

makes no sense to hold it at a Big Sky campus. That gives huge advantage to that school.

And Billings, Montana?????? Guess this is a possible winner with Big Sky Presidents from Montana State, Montana, EWU, Idaho and ISU and maybe even Weber and PSU. Seems like Presidents would naturally vote for the sight nearest their school. And 5 of the presidents would vote for their own campus as the host in this pool of candidate sites one would assume.

Reno is certainly the most neutral and sits right in the middle of the Big Sky foot print.
And Nevada does not have a Big Sky school

And certainly Reno is hands down the most exciting travel destination of those proposed.

Reno is the most fair from an objective standpoint.

And lucky for Sac State being the closest school to Reno but still several hours away.

Should be interesting to see what comes of this.

Not sure I like the Billings idea, as that would favor the Montanas more than anyone else. Reno's a good choice, as it's fairly easy for everyone to fly there.

And as for me? Given my recent travelling to Reno for the National Pole Vault Summit (I went in 2014, but didn't have the time this year) and women's football, I could EASILY make the trip from Lodi for the BSCT. That would be great.

Thanks for pointing it out, JP!
