I am not sure what has happened to the student section. I remember when both sections were full and standing up to the portals. There is tons of potential with this team and I think the players deserve more student support than they have been getting.
This is true, only problem is you have to wear a purple wrist band to sit in the first 4 rows, that's the stupidest thing I have heard. When we found out we couldn't sit in the first 4 rows I know we didn't care to be part of the student section. The funny part is only half of the first 4 rows even were filled. Whoever decided that epic fail and shame on you!!!! I know me and my friends along with a lot of people sitting around us were complaining and I know a lot of support chanting was lost for that as well.
I agree the players should be supported, but it's hard to create a student section when you aren't allowing the students that do show up to sit in the first 4 rows!!

Dude Dubs you do realize all you have to do is pay $15 to join the SAA and then you get priority seating. i dont see what the big deal is. if you dont join who the heck cares where you sit in the student section? just show up and support your team i think thats all that matters
webergrad02 said:I can understand trying to add a benefit to the SSA. But it did look pretty bad to see 15 - 20 students involved with empty seats behind them and then the rest of the students above them sitting down. I didn't know until reading this post that there is now social classes within our student section.

As far as I am concerned this is not a University rule, hence any student has a rite to sit down there regardless of a stupid bracelet. This type of behavior and attitude is poor, what reasoning is behind that anyway? This drives students away more than anything. :wall: However, all of these other posts about how the student section used to be all big and mighty; this talk needs to stop. It hasn't been big and mighty since my dad was student back in the late 70s and early 80s, when the DEC was selling out religously. So you posters who were student during the "Boyette" years can stop bashing the current student section. Back then it was never anything special to be bragging about yet alone talking down to others like it was something great. So please, stop with the talk about "how it was when I was a student." I remember 10 years ago sitting with my dad at home games and he would point out that there were not students even standing or anything like that. This was during the "Boyette" years. hno: So please, if you guys have ideas to help build upon, then let those in charge know, if not, stop complaining. Even in the past 5 years till last year, the student section was minimal with attendance at best. Until there is a decent opponent playing, the student section will struggle, and right now thats a hard reality. :wall: And I have nothing to do with SAA or "students up front."

I have been going to games religiously for 30 years and you are wrong. Granted the arena was full back in the early 80's. There was way more community support for the program in the 80's than now. The student section has always been 2-3 sections deep. But this year the students have started off worse than most other years. You can hardly hear the students and there are only 15 of them standing. I have seen exhibition games weakly attended by students and the holidays are pretty sparse. But the last two home games have been a pathetic showing by the students. I was a student during the Rueben Nemhard then the Eddie Gill and Harold Arceneux era. It was difficult to get a seat lower than the portal unless you went extra early.
No one is saying that there hasn't been times when the student section has been lacking in the past 10 - 15 years. But the last two games have been pretty bad and worse than another time in recent memory. The wrist band thing has made it look even worse. Your among folks that have donated lots of money, time and energy to this program. We can't understand why there are not hundreds of students standing and screaming.
