I hope we can get more students than what we had last Saturday for Irvine. I counted about 20 students that were standing and involved. I am not sure what has happened to the student section. I remember when both sections were full and standing up to the portals. There is tons of potential with this team and I think the players deserve more student support than they have been getting.

This is true, only problem is you have to wear a purple wrist band to sit in the first 4 rows, that's the stupidest thing I have heard. When we found out we couldn't sit in the first 4 rows I know we didn't care to be part of the student section. The funny part is only half of the first 4 rows even were filled. Whoever decided that epic fail and shame on you!!!! I know me and my friends along with a lot of people sitting around us were complaining and I know a lot of support chanting was lost for that as well.

I agree the players should be supported, but it's hard to create a student section when you aren't allowing the students that do show up to sit in the first 4 rows!!

Dude Dubs you do realize all you have to do is pay $15 to join the SAA and then you get priority seating. i dont see what the big deal is. if you dont join who the heck cares where you sit in the student section? just show up and support your team i think thats all that matters

This proves what we've been saying that priority seating is bunk! It's driving students away. Get rid of that crap and do all you can to make things more friendly for students.

Let's just put things into perspective: Friends don't let friends go to YBU! Who can't psyched for this one sports fans? How about another Scotty B. DEEP three at the buzzer? Noooo ...that would be damaging to too many pacemakers...LOL Let's just kick em to the curb.

GOOOO WILDCATS!!!

Went to get my tickets today, and the lady told me that they are going fast, those of you that have not bought your tickets you might want to consider doing it soon. Oh and get ready to pay for them, they are 5 dollars more than normal.

It's a big deal when your paying $3,000+ a semester for tuition, books, plus living expenses on a student budget. As well as that is beside the point, I'm just explaining to you why the student section is worse then last year. You can't create a student section when the first 4 rows are half way full (if that). Sure kids can move down after they have been kicked out of their seats, but who wants to move back down after being told they can't sit their? It for sure affects our student section, for example we were planning on painting our chests for the BYU game the same way we did for the Utah State game last year. Well now that I know their is a good chance I will be kicked out of the front row we aren't painting our chest which I'm sure will affect how crazy we will be at the game. I don't mind sitting in the 4th row and not going as crazy as last year and can still enjoy the game, but I'm just letting you know why students are frustrated and the student section might not be living up to par with what we want/expect. I do agree their are other issues and more students should be showing up then are, but still come on it's ridiculous....

the student section is so much more than an embarrassment so far. The losing and you know it chant even sucks Who is kicking you guys out Dubs? Joe Strand? Jerry Bovee? Get rid of the purple bracelets, give out some ice cream to Dubs and co. & hug each other :bananahump:

I can understand trying to add a benefit to the SSA. But it did look pretty bad to see 15 - 20 students involved with empty seats behind them and then the rest of the students above them sitting down. I didn't know until reading this post that there is now social classes within our student section.

Same here, thats Stupid

Repost from a different topic, since this one seems like it is being viewed more:

Couldn't agree with you more Dubs...this is a decent idea once we get the demand for people wanting to sit up close, but right now it just doesn't work. I am not on the SAA board anymore. I joined so I could have my usual seat. I have been in touch with them and threw out some ideas their way. The first thing I would like to see if their board members sitting in their 2nd row seats...not leaving them empty to go sit down two sections over. Definitely alienating to students who have never been before, and to fans like Dubs who were on the front row essentially all of last year. First come, first serve. I will personally save seats for board members who are doing things pre-game if they want them and will sit in them. That's what was done for me for 3 seasons.

I say just sit where you want for the BYU game. I would paint up with you guys if you need more. United we stand, divided we suck.
:twocents:

sounds like someone with poor judgement and insight made this new rule. very bad idea to do at weber state. we should be doing anything we can to get students to games so they will see they want to come back.

were peopel really fighting over the 4th row last season that this became a good idea to reserve 4 rows? reserving is one thing, but charging for it? pretty distasteful and embarrassing (unless we average 1,000 students per game). we should pay you $15 to take a reserved seat!

an easier way to turn off the students would be to charge for Dee parking and have no GA/student sec. :wall:

my recommendation is to just go sit where ever. who cares if its reserved. that is what we did back in my day. the cheer squad would rope off a few rows for the bigger games. we would just go take the seats and they'd be pissed off but we didnt care. they did not need those seats and at that location. :bad:

we also did that for the 07 big sky tourney. all of the student sec was reserved. that was hysterical when students with row one tkts show up at tipoff only to realize they are gonna be sitting on row 15. ha ha

This whole idea about charging students to sit up front is ridiculous. As far as I am concerned this is not a University rule, hence any student has a rite to sit down there regardless of a stupid bracelet. This type of behavior and attitude is poor, what reasoning is behind that anyway? This drives students away more than anything. :wall: However, all of these other posts about how the student section used to be all big and mighty; this talk needs to stop. It hasn't been big and mighty since my dad was student back in the late 70s and early 80s, when the DEC was selling out religously. So you posters who were student during the "Boyette" years can stop bashing the current student section. Back then it was never anything special to be bragging about yet alone talking down to others like it was something great. So please, stop with the talk about "how it was when I was a student." I remember 10 years ago sitting with my dad at home games and he would point out that there were not students even standing or anything like that. This was during the "Boyette" years. :ohno: So please, if you guys have ideas to help build upon, then let those in charge know, if not, stop complaining. Even in the past 5 years till last year, the student section was minimal with attendance at best. Until there is a decent opponent playing, the student section will struggle, and right now thats a hard reality. :wall: And I have nothing to do with SAA or "students up front."

I have been going to games religiously for 30 years and you are wrong. Granted the arena was full back in the early 80's. There was way more community support for the program in the 80's than now. The student section has always been 2-3 sections deep. But this year the students have started off worse than most other years. You can hardly hear the students and there are only 15 of them standing. I have seen exhibition games weakly attended by students and the holidays are pretty sparse. But the last two home games have been a pathetic showing by the students. I was a student during the Rueben Nemhard then the Eddie Gill and Harold Arceneux era. It was difficult to get a seat lower than the portal unless you went extra early.

No one is saying that there hasn't been times when the student section has been lacking in the past 10 - 15 years. But the last two games have been pretty bad and worse than another time in recent memory. The wrist band thing has made it look even worse. Your among folks that have donated lots of money, time and energy to this program. We can't understand why there are not hundreds of students standing and screaming.

Personally, I don't understand how the first rows can be saved. Aren't the student seats already owned by the students due to student fees? The $15 for SAA should be applied to other events: Watch parties, road trips, etc. Not to taking priority seating away from students because some students are too lazy to come early. First come first serve. Hell the students who sit in those seats, for the most part, are there early anyway. So...

As someone close to your age, This post is spot on, & true.

this thread needs to be renamed.

my senior yr was 2006. i should post some pics. i have a bunch. there was usually 8-10 of us in the entire student section. :yikes: i am not exaggerating. we had big sky conference games with 2,500 fans. we were rock bottom maybe in program history.

in 2003, the first yr students stood, it took almost the entire season to get them to stand. they even made a sign to make you stand. i didnt sit in the student section until my jr yr in 2005; it wasnt as good then as 07-12.

You are all STAINS!!!!!!! Especally CATCAT
