SWEET!!!

What does WSU need to do, to win this game?

Here is my take on it.

We need to continue our emphasis on perimeter defense. ie; Stop the 3 point shot. YBU gets a lot of momentum from their outside game.

We need to attack the rim on offense. Hopefully, we can get Davies in some foul trouble. He can't hurt you from the bench. Our bigs may also end up in some foul trouble, but I believe we have more depth and can obsorb it better.

We need the student section to get rowdy and get into their heads a little bit. Their guard line is less experienced than in years past. I think they can be shaken.

Lastly, we need to clean the glass with authority. If we out rebound them, we win. It's as simple as that. :coffee:

I think also that we are going to need some more offensive production from our guards in this game, UC Irvine played pretty good defense on our guards, but it doesnt hurt to hit the open shot, something that didnt really happen against Irvine

Irvine played us differently than many teams have. They didn't double down form the perimeter when we would pass into the post. They brought someone from the other side of the key to double or didn't double at all. They always had somebody in the face of our shooters. We were doing a simmilar thing to them. If you take one thing away, another thing opens up. I'm not sure how YBU might try to defend us. I suspect that they may also choose to not double from the guard line unless we are just killing them on the inside. I think that we will now be better prepared to handle the double coming from accross the key. The other thing that Irvine did well was covering the wing passing lanes on our transition game. YBU propbaly saw that and may try a simmilar tactic. Once again, if we adjust, other things will open up. :coffee:

This is a really good chance to beat these guys, BYU is not playing flawless basketball, and in thier game with Montana I came away unipressed, away from the Marriot or home they are 0-3 with losses that average 16 points and in thier ONE true road game this year they lost by 21. This team is beatable, and I think Weber does it.

I love a storm for a home game. The other team has to travel here in less than optimal conditions and their road home is filled with uncertainty. Those things are in the back of their minds the whole game long. It makes it hard for the visitors to concentrate on the task at hand. It makes an intimmidating environment even more so. The other team just can't wait to get home.

Welcome to Ogden, YBU. Hope you have a safe journey back home. :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

this was our game to win, it was at home. had a good crowd - 8,695.

when the game ended byu had 20 fouls, we had 19, we had less turnovers, we were out rebounded by 9, we just couldn't buy a free throw or 3.

byu is a good team.

FT: WSU 14-25, BYU 18-20
3's: WSU 4-19, BYU 2-10

would have been nice to get some real nice home cookin but can't blame the refs for this loss. davies is an amazing player which we knew in advance. should have been a win. 3's and ft's really killed us.

can't believe our next game is a conf game. on to EWU!

in-state:
usu 2-0 (byu left)
byu 1-0 (usu left)
weber 1-2 (suu twice left)
utah 0-1 (done)
uvu 0-2 (done)

I wish we could get our BSC refs to perform like WCC refs. YBU has a great team and probably would have beat us anyway, but I just wish we could get the same thing out of our refs when we go on the road with them.

It's all water unfder the bridge now. We lost and they won. Davies is one hell of a player. We need to work on our free throw shooting. We'll get better from here on out. We'll start a new home winning streak.

Looks like the big monkey with the 'Y' sweater on is still clinging tightly to Coach Rahe's back...0-7 now vs BYU and it doesn't look hopeful...just a fact of basketball life that BYU will usually have more talent and depth. Davies ruled this time around and if not him, there always seems to be someone else on their team who steps up, as Rahe said in his pregame interview. Losing to BYU has gotten OLD! :wall:

Instate the Wildcats end up 3rd best after all. Now it's Big Sky time (except for the Univ-Southwest insignificant game), where the Wildcats should do some ruling of their own, hopefully.

BYU is not a great team. This is the most mediocre Y team in years. This was our game to win.

Their zone ate us up. Where was our zone. The Y can't make 3's consistently and a zone would have created an easier defense to double down on Davies. Trying to take Davies one-on-one in the first half was crazy. He is a great player, Haws is solid, the rest of that lineup is Meh. You had to make Davies work harder for buckets.

We have a better chance to go dancing than the Y. They will struggle in their conference with a couple of teams that are clearly better. Davies will not get those phantom calls with real officials. The two charges he got were really bad calls. Haws is not going to get to the line on calls like he got tonight either. This Y team is really ordinary -- and this was our chance to get a win. We have to hit 3's though. I'm hugely disappointed!

I feel that a game like this helps us prepare better for league play and not so much for YBU. Yes, the cougs can get favorable officiating, on the road, by bringing hand chosen refs from their league with them. When they play at St Marys or Gonzaga, it will not be the same. We, on the other hand, know that we will have to fight through this kind of thing often.

The crowd was great, the student section was great, and it was a great learning experience for our team. :thumb:

25 missed freethrows combined in our last two games. Inexcusable. Get those players on the freethrow line now.

10 point loss, 11 missed freethrows, and how many on the front end of a one and one?

Freethrows will cost this team a BSC championship.

I think the team missed three front ends of a one and one; two by Scotty!! WTF?!? Saturday, definitely wasn't his day.

Anyway, if anything, the Cats can take faith in the fact that they won't have to face a Big as good as Davies for the rest of the season. Yikes!! He made our bigs look like children. Also, in our three losses, if anyone has noticed, Tres hasn't been a huge factor, but in our four wins, he has had excellent games in each. It didn't help that he sat the bench the entire first half with 2 fouls. Good thing Tres won't have to face another Big like Davies for the rest of the season, if ever!!

I only have one complaint, other than the FT's, the refs missed three big calls. Two "phantom" charges, the second was beyond pathetic, and the supposed ball that touched Mooks leg and was given back to BYU. Both times, the charges killed momentum and the ball going back to the Y gave them a 3. However, missing 11 Freebies at your house is inexcusable. That is the difference in the game.

In my opinion this loss was attributed to our inability to hit the open 3. 4-19 from behind the arc, allowed Byu to camp out in their zone. Their was absolutely no way we were getting the ball inside with that zone.

If we hit a few more threes, the zone disappears, and we suddenly have a little bit of an inside presence.

Bamforth has 2 jobs, hit 3's, & free throws he did neither.

I still think Byu is a tourney team. Davies is in the top
2 or 3 Centers in the country, but we shouldn't be losing to them
On our court, way to many squandered opportunities, if Bamforth shows up
we win.
