Coach Beau Baldwin and Oregon State & other coaching rumors

Per Football Scoop Coach B interviewed with Oregon State... He could have had that job 2(?) years ago?

Oregon State: Kerry Eggers of the Portland Tribune notes that he believes “at least” three candidates have been interviewed for the open head coaching job, and they are interim head coach Cory Hall, Cal offensive coordinator and former Eastern Washington head coach Beau Baldwin, and Washington offensive coordinator Jonathan Smith.

Link to Portland Trib article: http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sp...ates-on-oregon-state-football-coaching-search

Is there enough talent at OSU for B to show improvement in year one? Who would he tap for all the key positions on the staff? Would we lose any more coaches at Eastern should he take that job?

So many questions.

I know little about coaching in the Pac 12 but think he has taken the right path to now be a head coach at that level. When he was being considered for this job last time it opened I thought he may be a classic example of, he didn't know what he didn't know.
Jim McElwain for his OC? Don't need a DC

Read the Florida sent a delegation to Chip Kelley and flew home empty handed. Think Chip will land at UCLA

I don't this so. UCLA is not a premier PAC 12 location from what I've read. I think Coach B should wait until end of season to make a decision. My prediction is that if WSU beat UW- Leach is gone and heading to Nebraska to follow the former WSU AD. The Nebraska coach will be fired for another poor season and he would be a sexy pick if WSU wins the PAC12 north. WSU may be option if leach leaves. Oregon state is an armpit. It's were good coaches go to die. It has no history of football success and losing is in their DNA, I think he can get a better job if he waited.

I agree Coach B can do better. Nice call on Leach to Nebraska. What if he wins the Pac12?

If he wins PAC 12 I think he's still gone to Nebraska , just will command more money. Nebraska is a premier destination and he has a relationship with AD. It's a no brainier for him, in my opinion. I'm willing the bet emails have already been exchanged between the two. They have a long history.

On the way to the EWU game on Saturday I was able to pick up the Oregon State pregame. The announcers all but named Baldwin as they said maybe a "FCS coach or a Offensive Coordinator from a Pac 12 school." So it looks like the sentiment is that they really want him there from at least a broadcasting and media stand point.
I think family wise I think WSU would be like a dream come true and I am sure a lot of WSU fans would love to have him instead of that Nasty Pirate :-)

Mike Leach is not going to Nebraska. His personality will absolutely not fit in Lincoln with that fan base and they won't put up with it like Pullman does. Pelini was ran out of town for his personality. This is the program of Tom Osborne and they've been looking for another one since he retired. Mike Reilly got the job there simply because he's a super guy. Unfortunately for everyone involved with the program, it just hasn't worked out. Nebraska is going after Scott Frost, the Nebraska boy.

As far as Beau, Oregon State would be absolutely foolish to not offer him the job again. The question is, does Beau want it? He's already proven he doesn't jump for jobs just for the sake of titles and money. I think WSU is probably a better job and I do believe Leach is leaving at the end of the season (just not to Nebraska), but I just can't fathom having to become a WSU fan.... :ohno:

OSU has challenges but it's not impossible to win there. Reilly did and Erickson had them curb stomping Norte Dame in the Fiesta Bowl (after they barely snuck past Eastern of course)

Plus, they have Nike money.

Nike money is good and all, but not sure I would want to have outside bosses out of the athletic who could drive me out if I accidentally piss them off. One boss is enough.

VERY good point.

I'm looking at you, Montana!

Are you blending some Oregon and OSU facts together?

Completely agree. I can't see Mike Leach being a fit at Nebraska. He doesn't fit their historical system. While Lincoln isn't a big media market, I think Pullman is a perfect fit for Leach. Plus, you go 8-4 at Nebraska and the fanbase starts rumbling. You go 8-4 in Pullman, and they give you an extension. Leach's system simply isn't one where you win national championships, but it gives lesser quality teams a chance to beat bigger names. Personally, I'd kinda like to see how Leach would fare at a big time program, but given what he's already being paid and the quality of fit he has in Pullman, I can't see him leaving.

It sounds like Nebraska is going all-in on Scott Frost anyway.

No.

They also have Reeser money or at least they used to.

So many questions.

I think we'd lose Valeria if Beau gets a HC job. Remember that he started following a bunch of Nevada recruits and sources when it looked like Beau was getting the job. I believe this is the reason we got Maurice. He'll become our primary recruiting coordinator if/when Valeria leaves.

Felt the same way about Petersen, who I love, going to the Huskies. Think he has changed the culture enough to make watching the Huskies bearable. Apple Cup should be a great game. Both QB's look shaky to me. Pretty much a washington football TEAMS fan at this point, glad to see all of them be successful. What's up with the super late starts of all the Huskies games though? Am usually asleep by the 2nd quarter.

The PAC 12 and their piss poor contract agreement with ESPN and Fox Sports. The only way to get those big name networks to show big games, is to play them in the late windows. So, the choice is to suck, play on Pac 12 network and get 12:30 games, or be good, play on ESPN/FOX and kickoff at 8pm. DUMB, STUPID, DUMB!
