Coach Beau Baldwin and Oregon State & other coaching rumors

Oregon State: Oregon State has parted ways with its entire coaching staff save for interim head coach Cory Hall, according to The Oregonian. The school will honor their contracts, but the staff was told to evacuate the football facility by Tuesday night.
Guessing these were all Anderson guys. What does this mean per the coach search?

While I think Cory Hall is a pretty solid coach, I find it strange that Oregon State would demand he be retained. How often does the school fire a coach but demand one or any of his assistants be retained? Typically all the old assistants have to re-interview for their positions for the incoming coach... That is if the new coach doesn't already have his own guys in place.

Weird right? ASU just fired Graham and said they wanted to retain the DC and OC. These AD's are smoking a lot of pot. In other weird developments, Tennessee's coaching search isn't going well after the Schiano fiasco. New update from Scoop
Tennessee: Contrary to one report out there, Jason Witten will not leave the Dallas Cowboys to be Tennessee’s head coach. “That’s something I’m not pursuing,” he said on KTCK-AM in Dallas.
Too much bad moonshine on ole' Rocky Top

Am told #OregonState reached out to #FresnoState’s Jeff Tedford about their HC vacancy as a feeler but he quickly passed. He is happy at Fresno.

WTF is going on at OSU??? Now their floating the balloon about bringing back Dennis Erickson. I was a DE fan for many years, but... jeez

Oregon State: In what appears to be a trial balloon, the concept of hiring Dennis Erickson was floated today for Oregon State. DHR International is running this search. Erickson, 70, last served as a head coach in 2011 at Arizona State and last coached in 2016 as running backs coach at Utah. Erickson served as head coach at Oregon State from 1999 – 2002 winning 31 games in four seasons.

Wondering they've been getting pressure from big time donors to make a splash... :ohno:

Like I posted somewhere else not sure if this is the best place...god knows how many bosses he might have if he takes this job....too many it looks like. Also is Barnes a temp AD? Or is he permanent?

Things start to crystallize with this new information. Kind of makes sense. Jonathan Smith was a good QB and has been running the Huskies offense for Petersen for several years...

Per @johncanzanobft, Dennis Erickson has made a pitch to Oregon State to return as coach — with UW's Jonathan Smith in tow as coach-in-waiting:

Happy holidays, Vic!

Per Conzano, looks like they cut to the chase and are hiring Smith. Was happy for BB, but hopefully there are bigger and better opportunities out there in the future. Can't wait to see how fast OSU comes to regret it.

Smith went there and played QB. Hiring an OC from a team with current success and who played at their college. It's tough to argue their choice as it makes complete sense for them.

The crazy thing to me is, UW's offense hasn't been their "strength." Outside some playmakers, the O cost them both games this season. Given a choice of offensive masterminds, I choose BB over Smith all day and all night.

Oh I agree with you, as a husky fan, I'm just happy Smith is gone.

The rumor in Oregon is that both Beau and Barnes had a change of heart as Beau might be looking elsewhere.
Well there are plenty of opportunities out there.
How about the Vols??

At this rate, I'm expecting Hauck to be named Tennessee coach.

Mike Leach's name is being floated for Tennessee so I wonder if Beau could wind up at Wazzu.

Back from 10 days in Germany and it looks like it's been a wild ride with coaching changes. Not sure anyone expected Taggart to FSU, but the money is unbelievable. Gotta say, was impressed with the year he had at an Oregon program that seemed lost, although he had some very high end assistant coaches in Leavitt and Christobal to help him over the hump.

Glad Coach B didn't get the OSU gig. Another year as the OC isn't going to hurt as the players now know the system and he can maximize their abilities. Cal isn't the garden spot job but he is learning what it takes to win at the P5 level and hopefully identifying potential assistant coaches that will help him win wherever he lands as a HC.

Worst hire to date IMO: Herm Edwards to ASU... Aack Welcome to further mediocrity Sun Devils. Honestly, the rest of the coaching changes seem to be upgrades for most of these programs.

EDIT: Just saw this on 247, seems they be seeing Herm the same way I do...
rizona State: Edwards will certainly be great in the living room. We assume he’ll be great during on-campus visits too. Beyond that we don’t know much. Edwards takes over at a place where Arizona State struggles to win recruiting battles against upper-echelon Pac 12 schools. So you have to win by evaluating. We have no clue if Edwards can evaluate. He spent the last nine years on a TV set. He hasn’t coached college football, since 1989, at San Jose State. Perhaps labeling this as a "questions mark" is saying it politely.

Hope everyone is having a blessed holiday season.
