Coaches Show

Good show tonight. Coach Collins needs to stop being defensive when a question comes from "a fan". When the question from "a fan" was brought up in regards to his poor start at Alcorn State and now UNC, his initial response was "Well you know again that goes to a fan" in a very dismissive tone. It was a fair question and he did address it with the players buying into the new system. He mentioned the players don't buy in then you need to start the Freshmen.

One thing I came out of this show was that Coach Collins really loves this school and really wants to succeed here. We are never going to get a top notch coach, especially one that will stick around very long if we succeed (Boyle) so our best shot is an alum with ties to the school doing well.

I did not get a chance to listen last night but will listen to the segments once they are online. Glad to hear the show was a little more positive. Again, not sure what the players are supposed to be buying into. Coach....let's be honest and fair, you have no credibility or have established anything to be given the respect you are demanding. You want respect from the players, then earn it like everyone else. :thumb:

I disagree. The previous way was obviously not working so if the new coach is telling you to try something new, you should do everything in your power to try to do it the new way. Hell, even if the old way was working, the player needs to do what the coach wants them to do. Then if it doesn't work, it's up to the coach to adjust or be fired. As it is now, we have half a team doing it the old way which we know doesn't work, and half the team trying it the new way which won't work unless the entire team buys into it.

What a freekin' mess. Hopefully they will all come around in a few games that way we can really see what we have.

What was interesting was that during the show last night he asked the Seniors he was doing something wrong and if he needed to change something. The Seniors responded that they needed to buy into more of what he wants. :thumb:

Todays Trib had an interview With Coach Collins and talked more about the players buying in. I believe there will always be a few nuts to crack and I think there are a few fans that will be tough buying in. I guess I have bought in hook, line & sinker and I am going to give this Coach a chance. Geez, Downing had 5 years. I have been saying since day 1 that this team is not running on all cylinders and it shows and it is a matter of time as to when they will. I just hope it is sometime this year. And yes it is terribly frustrating on all levels to watch the losing. Some people need to get there head out of there you know what and get with the program on all levels. Go Bears

If I have to hear the phrase "Buy-In" one more time I'm going to vomit. Enough is enough with that phrase....maybe because when I hear it, it reminds me of a sales scam.

Anyway, I found it interesting when they talked about Walker and Bumpas having a great game Saturday, the Coach immediately said "That's cause they have bought in!" Oh so it's not because they MIGHT be great athletes, it's because of YOUR system. Really coach, you're going to take the credit?

btw.....the new found spread is on the offense side of the ball. Your defense runs a standard 4-3-4 Cover 2 scheme. They have been playing that since youth football, so what is your defense's excuse? Oh that's right the excuse on that side of the ball is that they are young, oh they are inexperienced....yeah so is most FCS teams that run 2-deep and 65 scholarships. AND count your blessings because your team for the most part is pretty healthy compared to others.

Ok Coach, you have had all spring and summer to evaluate your players, so please tell us right now before Saturday's game what players have bought into your system? Go ahead....name them! Yeah, don't wait until they have a great game then say it's because of your system.

The fact remains you blame the players for the team's failures and you take all the credit for individual successes. Really coach? Have you EVER once said that the struggles of your team is the responsibility of the coaching staff? Will you ever take responsibility of your team or only when you win?

Coach....you and your staff (very young and inexperienced I might add) clearly do not have kids of the age that they are playing competitive athletics, if you all did, you would never lay blame on your players. When you all experience the competitive environment with your children down the road it will open your eyes and you all will change for the better when it comes to your players. Until then you and your coaching staff need to grow up alittle.

btw....I read the tribune article today and I will post my many thoughts on that later.

Again, you're reading way too much into things. Look at the past statements he has said about Bumpas and you will see he likes his talent, same thing with Walker.

From his comment in the Tribune today shown below:

"Collins said that eventually the kids have to buy into it or they are going to keep losing. However, he is confident that they are not going to continue losing in the future because he is going to get guys into the program that are going to buy into what he is doing."

I hope that when he mentions getting "guys" in the future to improve the program, he not only means players, but some of the assistant coaches as well.

Please don't, because no one cares what you have to say and honestly you have no idea what you're talking about. You have something personal against coach Collins? From reading your comments, it sounds like you do. Downing is that you?

You want to be fair and honest? Ok, UNC has sucked for the past what? 6+ years now, I can't even remember when they had a decent season. Through the Downing era, he only won 9 games, in five years. Oh ya Downing and his staff had least experience than the current staff when they first started out. Downing's head coaching record 0-0, and ended 9-50 something. With no improvement what so ever. I said this in another thread, and I'll say it again. If Downing was still the coach, we would be have a similar type season. There's a lot of things wrong with this football program that never got addressed over the Downing era. And you expect Collins to come in here and produce a winning season? Not going to happen, matter of fact whats going on now, magnifies how bad the Downing era was.

UNC is young, and lacks talent. Some of the players haven't bought into the system, and my question is, why? I remember last year, when the season was coming to a close, a lot of people that post on this board and claim to be close to the program, were saying the kids were ready for change. Well this it. I don't know why these kids wouldn't want to buy into the new program. It's not like what was happening with the old way actually worked.

Downing got 5 years to really produce nothing. Collins hasn't even gotten one yet. I'm as frustrated as the next person watching this team loose. But I have realized and everyone else needs to as well, that this is going to be a long process. I don't see them winning a game this year. But what we can hope for that we see a steady improvement over the rest of the season.

Man.....this isn't about winning! Nobody expected a winning season. This is about accountability and it starts with the head coach, not the players. Until such time he holds himself accountable, I will do it for him. I'm not asking or expecting Coach Collins to fired, I want him to stand up like a man and take responsibility of what's happening, not finger point.

This program is in terrible shape right now. I Know that it is up to the coaches and players to turn it around. But to call out the head coach, when he was the only one the school could get to take the position is kinda weak. This is his alma mater, and I assure you no one wants to turn it around faster than does coach Collins.

Seems no one was happy with Downing and his staff, But expected Vince Lombardi to come apply and be the new UNC head coach. The administration totally blew the hiring process to the point where very good coaches withdrew their names and did not even want to be interviewed. Then they try the crazy stunt with Dave Logan which only served to make the school look totally lost.

This rant against Coach Collins reminds me of alot the rants we are getting against the president of this country. The old guard establishment (Dalton/Downing)which failed and required that new leadership be brought in, now has it backers and want to dicate how the new leadership runs the program.

Again I say UNC should be thankful that someone with Bear Pride took over the program, because after the screwed up hiring process, I thought CLAWS might be the new Head Coach. If it takes this coach to call out his players so be it. After losing to Idaho St. by 30 then to lay down on homecoming as thy did, some fires need to be lit. Whatever coach uses to motivate his players, so long as it works is up to him.

With hind sight being 20-20 Does all the close losses in the Downing era be something we wish we had at this time. Some of the very same people complained about his comments in the paper following those losses, as not holding players accountable and making excuses about a play here or there. Its very tough being a coach in a progam with high expectations of winning, yet a 10 year history of losing.

Hang in there Coach Collins, do whatever it takes legally to turn this crap around. Use any methods allowed. With the state of this program nothing is off limits.
