Coaching Search, for real this time, thread

I think we've had about 50 of these threads the past couple of years, so why not another? I think Collins will get another year, because the school cannot afford to buy him out, but it's fun to poke around and see who might be available.

My top two candidates...
1. John Wristen - CSUP

2. Jed Stugart - Lindenwood

It's depressing because the buyout in all actuality is not super terrible, but he we are. It's the only thing that makes sense of why he's here still. Anyways either of those coaches would be a slam dunk. We just need whoever the new coach is to identify and recruit FCS talent, I don't think that's the case now.

Everyone knows Coach Collins is a good guy, good player, good assistant coach, but not a good head coach. Would it be possible for the AD to hire someone like Jed Stugart to be head coach, who was i think a former UNC coach, with the understanding that he place coach Collins as an assistant coach. Granted we would still have to pay Collins the same head coaching salary for one year if he chose to stay on as an assistant, but it wouldn't cost us to pay him to leave and then have to pay for a new assistant coach. He would most probably have to take an assistant coaching job anyway at a lower salary at some JC or DII or DIII school that he would get when let go at UNC. If he chose to leave on his own we wouldn't owe him his last year salary.

They just need to get rid of him now and start looking. UNC has nothing to lose by letting him go now. The season is pretty much done. If they want people to continue to support this program then they'll need to make a move. The line needs to be drawn if it hasn't already. Another year of this, is going to be devastating to this football program.

And its already been devastating. I have been begging for years for change and getting no where . Maybe our new President will act ? Are you listening Andy Feinstein ? We lost fans and there are a lot of us have been patiently waiting. Please stop the insanity

My first choice would be to grab a coach from a winning DII program, and a program that wins consistently. I would try for either Wristen first, then maybe the guy from NW Missouri State (Richard Wright). If we are going coordinator route, why not someone from NDSU's staff? They know how to recruit offensive and defensive linemen!

Love Ernest Collins but he has got to go for gods sake. The program is so lethargic that the Tribune does not even cover them anymore

Head Coaching candidates off the top of my head. I'll post more when I think of them.
Gregg Brandon - Colorado School of Mines HC
John Wristen - CSU Pueblo HC
Kasey Dunn - Okie State WR Coach

Ernest is the lowest paid head coach in the conference. His buyout is low. If I remember right it would only be around $60k but I need to look that up. However, we would need to pony up for even a Division II coach or assistant to want to come. On top of that, everyone around is building and expanding their facilities. UNC needs to show that they are invested to anyone who takes over.

The Big Sky is a bit of an overloaded conference with western state flagship institutions with ample funds and others in somewhat major metro areas. There is a lot to look into in regards to the future of the program. The university alone cannot carry this burden. Alumni will need to step up.

Texas State OC Bob Stitt - He did well at Mines before doing "Okay" at Montana and was let go. Was OSU assistant before heading to Texas State this past year. He would probably be my first choice "if" we can afford him.

What about Robin Pflugrad former Montana head coach? He's at NAU right now. He has a vast amount of experience recruiting the West.

Robin would be awesome if we could afford him and he's willing to go to a conference school that has lesser facilities than where he is at. That's why many are looking at the Division II ranks for a coach who is looking for a pay raise that we can afford. Also, his firing at Montana was messy.

Haven't posted on here for a while, and yet we are still losing...imagine that! I am all for trying to get Jed Stugart back to Northern Colorado as the next head ball coach. His body of work at Lindenwood speaks for itself. Took over a program that couldn't get more that 3 wins a season, he had 4 in both his first 2 years and now they are on a 5 game winning streak with the conference championship all but wrapped up! That's pretty remarkable that he was able to turn the program around as fast as he did, and they very well could make the playoffs this year. He would be my pick as the next head coach because he has proven that he has what it takes to turn a program around!

Anyone with "inside" info on what they a.d. is thinking regarding a change in staff? When Downing was fired years ago, we had so many posters with "inside" info. We had former players, former department members, it was nuts.

If we win the next two, at Sioux and at home against Cal Poly, I would imagine he keeps his job. If we go 1-1 it's a crapshoot. If we go 0-2, it's time to move on. The blowouts this year are what should cement it, but who knows?

Are we making this the official head coach search thread? It's finally real!

Good idea, I modified the thread title. This is so f'n' exciting.

Here's hoping Dunn and his staff can find whoever the football version of Jeff Linder or Kamie Etheridge is.

Just go find the best young D2 coach that has no ties to the program and would be hungry and see this as a huge opportunity...

I kind of want someone with some longer successes at the lower level, especially with recruiting. I feel like this team needs a strong coach to fix all the rot in the foundation.

But I agree it might be time to not hire a UNC affiliated coach. I feel like that was most of the reason Collins stayed as long as he did.

Highly doubt Wristen is leaving at this point, he's pretty well set and the salary isn't enough to uproot what he's built in Pueblo. Could be wrong but I absolutely don't see that happening.

About time UNC decided to not be terrible though.
