Coaching Search, for real this time, thread

Dunn has been very good at hiring good coaches. I think someone mentioned Mike Armour, and if we are going to keep anyone on staff it should be him.

Some of the names mentioned (Wristen, Stitt, Brandon etc.) are good choices. I will toss in Russ Martin. CMU and Martin parted ways this week. This was his worst season and it was still a season with a winning record; 6-5.

The worst thing Dunn can do is hire Bob Stitt. I don't even what that guys name mentioned as a candidate. My first three would be...
1. Wristen
2. Stugart
3. Dave Logan...not kidding.

Why would Stitt be bad?

Gimmicky offense. No thanks. He did not do well at Montana, and remember, we even beat the Griz when he was coach there.

Honestly, looking at who Dunn has hired to coach the basketball teams, I don't think any of those three would be in the mold of who he's looking for. I'm guessing it'll be someone young-ish, currently at a bigger program, who has ties to Colorado but not necessarily to UNC. I don't expect many (or maybe any) of the names that came up in the previous two coaching searches to be involved with this one.

It was overdue for a change at the top. Good job graduating players and getting good grades, but it's about wins and losses at this level.

Coaching thoughts:
1. Darrin Chiaverini, assistant head coach at CU. This would be a homerun and probably unlikely.

2. Wristen, still probably unlikely

3. Gregg Brandon - Colorado guy who had success at Bowling Green and is domimating at Mines. Also a UNC alum. If I were to bet, my money would be on Brandon to get the job, and I'd be happy with the choice.

I did think about about Chiaverini as well but I'm not sure if I want another FBS position coach. However, the biggest thing is recruiting and maybe he can provide that.

I love his recruiting ability and relationships he builds with players. But...he's making $400,000 a year in Boulder so I doubt we'd be able to pry him away.

Keep on eye on the website footballscoop.com. They've got a pulse on just about every position open and the source is pretty reliable.

Hopefully we start hearing some rumors this week I've heard nothing...

I have a feeling they might wait until the season is over, or teams they have an eye on get eliminated

I am a MT fan, and I can tell you that most MT fans were pretty happy with Stitt. Granted, he's no Bobby Hauck, but until he lost that last game to MSU he still had a lot of support. I know that is true because there were frequent polls on the message board over there.

I don't see how you can say he has a "gimmicky" offense when his teams were usually in the top 10 in the nation in offense. He runs a very pass-happy, up-tempo Air Raid scheme. That's why I like the guy. I'm not related to him nor am I his friend. I became a fan while he was at MT.

I watched that loss to UNC you mentioned. Our backup QB was playing so we couldn't really run the Air Raid. We also didn't have our starting RB, who was far better than the backups (only legit RB on the team that year). We were still in position to win but the backup QB made a bad throw that would have been a TD. I remember Stitt beat UNC pretty easily his last year with a freshman QB...

Well, I would say this ain't my lookout, but truthfully I would like to see that Air Raid in the Big Sky, and I'd love to have some popcorn handy when/if Stitt plays against the Griz. I'll just say this in closing: if you can get Stitt some offensive playmakers and a decent O-line, then you'll be in every game you play and would likely win a majority of them.

Dunn mentioned there is no real time line for the hire, but would like to have a coach in place by early signing day, which is Dec 13th or 14th. I'm interested to see the short list when it comes out. Maybe this week?

According to Troy at kfka Stitt isn't even being considered.

Where did you hear this from? Curious on the insights

He posted a few comments on twitter at https://twitter.com/troycoverdale
I had a bit of a back and forth with him since it was very unlike him to post something like that.

Were there any rumblings about his character (that seems to be an issue people are concerned about)?
