The worst thing Dunn can do is hire Bob Stitt. I don't even what that guys name mentioned as a candidate. My first three would be...
1. Wristen
2. Stugart
3. Dave Logan...not kidding.

Why would Stitt be bad?

Gimmicky offense. No thanks. He did not do well at Montana, and remember, we even beat the Griz when he was coach there.
I am a MT fan, and I can tell you that most MT fans were pretty happy with Stitt. Granted, he's no Bobby Hauck, but until he lost that last game to MSU he still had a lot of support. I know that is true because there were frequent polls on the message board over there.

I don't see how you can say he has a "gimmicky" offense when his teams were usually in the top 10 in the nation in offense. He runs a very pass-happy, up-tempo Air Raid scheme. That's why I like the guy. I'm not related to him nor am I his friend. I became a fan while he was at MT.

I watched that loss to UNC you mentioned. Our backup QB was playing so we couldn't really run the Air Raid. We also didn't have our starting RB, who was far better than the backups (only legit RB on the team that year). We were still in position to win but the backup QB made a bad throw that would have been a TD. I remember Stitt beat UNC pretty easily his last year with a freshman QB...

Well, I would say this ain't my lookout, but truthfully I would like to see that Air Raid in the Big Sky, and I'd love to have some popcorn handy when/if Stitt plays against the Griz. I'll just say this in closing: if you can get Stitt some offensive playmakers and a decent O-line, then you'll be in every game you play and would likely win a majority of them.

Were there any rumblings about his character (that seems to be an issue people are concerned about)?

The complaints about his character is that he can be stubborn and overly loyal to his asst. coaches and some players. I think we saw both play out in MT where he alienated the incumbent D-coordinator when he arrived and then was too loyal to the guy that he elevated to the position. That incumbent D-coordinator didn't last at MSU either though, so that might not all be on Stitt. I never heard anybody saying Stitt was a jerk or anything like that. Missoula is a small town and that message board is very active, and I didn't pick up on that. In fact, he became infamous for the grueling questionnaire he puts recruits through, trying to pick up players with a team mentality.

If he ends up at UNC, he'll probably bring QB Gresch Jensen, 3rd in voting for FCS freshman of the year 2 years ago. Both he and Stitt had a bad year at Texas State this year, but that O-line was a sieve. I watched most of the games. Jensen is still in concussion protocol from a beating he took several weeks ago. Also, you could see HC Jake Spavital (the former O-coordinator at WV) taking the reins of that offense early in the season. Stitt was relegated to the booth a few games in, and he has always coached from the sideline. So the writing was on the wall that the Spavital / Stitt partnership wasn't working out.

I really appreciate the insight GrizMan. It doesn't look like we will head in Stitt's direction, but if we do, I wouldn't feel as bad about it.

What about KSU QB coach Collin Klein? He's a local guy - graduated from Loveland High School and he's an up-and-coming coach.

Dunn has been very good at hiring good coaches. I think someone mentioned Mike Armour, and if we are going to keep anyone on staff it should be him.

This is just about the dumbest idea I’ve EVER heard! 100% chance this is Armour posting this himself. Awkward!

Instead of attacking Beardown personally (who has been a long time member of this board and has zero chance of being Armour), how about posting why it would be a bad idea (ie. attack the idea not the person).

I also don't think he recommended him for the head coaching job, just for keeping him (maybe to continue as a positions coach?). That being said, I really like the idea of cleaning house completely. Give the new coach a chance to hire all of his assistants and get out of his way. That's probably the only way we get someone decent is if we give them that control.

Still no rumors I've seen yet. Anyone else?

I also agree with Bryan, we need to hit reset and hard. At least give the new coach a chance to keep or add whoever works best for them and their goals.

No rumors here from a new member. Hopefully they make a move soon so they can get to the recruiting. I know the current coaching staff is still recruiting, but the new coach will need to get "his guys" to get the team rolling.

I'm trying to keep an eye on social media, other message boards, etc. Troy and Rath are both in the dark, and the Tribune...well...don't hold your breath. Troy did mention on Twitter that alumni are clamoring for Marty English to take over. Dunn was hopeful they would have someone by early signing period, which is coming up on Friday, I believe.

Apparently there was a direct flight from Athens, GA to Greeley but nobody has any idea who was on it.

Well, the Trib is using our board for an article on the coaching spot lol

That is an absolute new low. Really, what was the point?

So are all the other assistants still working (doing recruiting)?
If they weren’t dismissed, then they’re still under contract to the school and working. They’re probably mostly overseeing day to day stuff, working with the returning players on off-season workouts and such. If they’re recruiting, it’s going to be on kids already committed to UNC and kids they’ve been recruiting. Keeping them in the loop and trying to keep them onboard or open to looking at us with a new coach.

Thank you. That's got to be a strange environment to work in (but probably fairly common for that line of work).

All signs are pointing to Jed Stugart. Could have a deal done in the next week.

Interesting. Along with the recent threads (including this one) his name has come up in posts dating back to 2007 with first mentions of him being a HC here in 2010 by "Bears Bears Bears".
