Defense

I think our defense needs a theme song. Something badassed that we can identify with....

Right now it should be Agent Orange and "This is Not The End"

I'm sorry, but who are we to say our defense didn't play with effort? Let's not turn into that kind of fan base. I'm sure there are many players who scan this forum. Those boys played their damn hearts out. They were beat, so what? Who are we to expect more than their best effort?

Be supportive. It's the best way to encourage improvement.
Oh, c'mon! I wasn't singling out any players in particular. There were definitely some bright spots, but collectively the defense is going to have to get more stops, create more turnovers, do anything to get off of the field if we are going to get back to the playoffs or even win the Big Sky this year. There are some good teams in the Big Sky and we aren't going to have that kind of performance on O every single game of the year. There's going to be times when Adams is slightly off or our guys drop the ball, or the running game isn't there. And those are the times when our D is going to need to step it up. It's not really possible that our O can play much better than it has been.

The purpose of the board is to encourage discussion, and that means being critical as well as being supportive. I agree with you. The defense played poorly. Not because of a lack of effort, but because they were out of position, took some poor angles, and just got overran physically. It's not the end of the world, and I think the D will learn from it and improve.

How about "Pazi Sta Radis" from Wikluh Sky? If there was ever going to be a sountrack to a murderous rampage, this would definitely be it.

PS--- "Srpski Film" from which this song comes from is one of the most twisted things I have ever seen. Certainly not the most disturbing movie ever, but it ranks up there.

LDopaPDX, you've got me concerned...walk towards the light. For all you that don't care for critiquing on a message board full of experts in the art/science of Football, please join me in a verse from the ever popular duo Ren and Stimpy.

Was the "walk towards the light" comment a reference to me admitting to watching "Srpski Film?"

No doubt, it took a really hot shower to wash that filth off.

Man, how the hell did you struggle through that four times?!?!?! I figured anything more than once might cause a psychotic reaction.

However, you definitely sound like a man with my kind of grotesque cinematic preferences. Word to the wise, don't ever let someone suggest "Melancholie der Engel" to you. It's the only movie I've ever turned off for being TOO disturbing and grotesque.

Really impressed with how the D played in the second half. Overall, we limited Davis to only 260 yards of offense, and 88 yards rushing.

Good effort. Davis got in their own way after Eags took the lead. The LB's showed well today and liked the young beef with Tiuli and Persefea, along with Sommer, in the middle. :D

The EAGS defense shined compared to Montana's. The griz gave up 356 total yards to Northern Colorado who were led by their 3rd string quarterback. They gave up all those yards in their sacred "loud" stadium to boot.

Don't get too anti-Griz. They came out gangbusters and were rotating in reserves pretty much the whole second half.

Agreed. Great game and confidence builder for the D. They looked pretty raggity early, but came together nicely. Our D really turned a corner when they started pushing the LBs and and playing press coverage. Once they made that decision, Davis never moved the ball again.

FWIW, I'd much rather see us play running teams like we did today--- contesting the line of scrimmage with the LBs and pressing the secondary up. I mean, Davis beat us deep once as we dared them to, but id much rather occasionally get beat deep on a single shot than die from a slow bleed.

Dopa, I'm heading your way to sample the food trucks before the Zach Brown Band show in Vancouver. Do you have a favorite truck (trailer, cart, wagon, etc.)?

I watched a good part of the second half (missed the first half) and I didn't notice starters being pulled. That was why I made the post. Now I'm curious and will watch the second half again on the ROOT replay today.

I'm not a big food truck guy. The only ones I stop by are ones by Rich's Cigar on Alder Street kitty-korner to the methadone clinic (Welcome to Portland!)

They have one there called Delicios Transylvanian which is damn good. Another one I like is Altengartz (same area) which is strictly a bratwurst place.

BTW, if you are a cigar guy or like niche newspapers and magazines, you can get stuck in Rich's Cigar for hours. One of the best retailers in Portland... The only problem is our absurdly burdensome tobacco taxes make us one of the most expensive cigar markets in the country.

Grizzly second string wasn't in until halfway through the* fourth quarter. They just came into the second half flat.
