Displeasure with Downing

I don't like the idea of firing coaches after seasons where they only win8 or 9 games instead of 11 (Solich at Nebraska), because I think it sets the program back.

This Downing thing has me confused. His record on the field is pathetic but it seems we are close to pulling things together. That being said, close to pulling things together could be just a 5 win season in a best case scenario.

Maybe Downing has compromising pics of Jay.

Warning! Side effects of reading the following article include: nausea, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue, and un-explained breaking of the nearest fragile object. If you experience despair lasting longer than four house call Jay Hinrichs right away as this may sign of a common, but serious allergic reaction to his decision to keep the worst coach in school history.

Uh, I have all that just from the picture accompanying the article.

Well on a positive note:

"He cited the fact that UNC will return 12 players on offense and eight players on defense next season that have starting experience. The returning group accounted for 80 percent of the team's offensive and defensive production last season."

If Downing is going to take a giant leap forward by winning at least 1/2 his games, this is the season.

Good luck coach.

Yay..We are returning 20 players from a team that sucks...Just like a politician, make the bad stuff seem good.

Awh shucks pa, Gomer just shot my left testicle off! But on the bright side, Aunt Bee's cookin up a fresh huckelberry pie!

I don't even know if I have the energy to hate the guy anymore, well I don't hate, but you get the idea. I am disappointed that a coaching change wasn't made. It is what it is, I guess we have to just set back and see what happens.

I don't hate Downing, he is trying his best. I don't like Jay for not standing up for this team, not fighting for UNC athletics and not being open with the media. He is a public servant, he should act like one.

Does anyone think that Downing might take off for an assistant gig at a BCS school? I'm sure that he's buddies with Turner Gill and he'll probably need to fill out a staff at KU.

I don't know; he appears to be in over his head as a head man but he was a capable assistant. He'd probably make more money, have less stress and better job security. I wouldn't be surprised if he left in the next week or so.

We won't get that lucky, it's like being a manager the employee you wish would quit never does you have to fire them.

I agree. He just can't be happy right now--how could he be? His record has been completely abysmal and even though he portrays the "golly shucks" attitude, the losses have to be eating him up. There are many jobs that would be better fits for him out there and he needs to do us, and himself, a favor and take one.

Insurance Sales for example. To lead and motivate young men you need some charisma or something, but whatever it is it's lacking here.
