Displeasure with Downing

Firing the staff will only happen if the president is willing to cover the debt - the universities budget is so far under water already that it is very unlikely that she'll cover it.

Actually South Dakota State went DI a year after us yet we have all the excuses in the book for sucking.

Although they actually funded their scholarships fully instead of trying to do it on the cheap but water under the bridge we just need to change this culture of losing that has permeated the program for the last 4 years.
 
hopefully the the tribune will continue with pressuring the a.d's office with what the heck is going to happen. currently coach's are out on recruiting trips. i still stand by the thinking that they will promote from within, deti to head coach, and, hire new o.c/ol/qb coach's. they should look to someone with unc tie's and aggresive offense thinking. there is talent here, add to it, and be respectable competitors in the big sky!
 
I think I may have good news regarding Mr. Downing....I have a friend in the athletic department and she heard that Downing had to win AT LEAST 5 games to retain his job...and considering he only won 3 I believe he is going to be packing up SOON!

Why are you trying to dash my hopes? I am sure Jay is working out the details on a contract to bring in a great new coach that is going to blow our minds. Ignorance is bliss.

I can’t help but laugh each time I see the title of this thread. Displeasure? I think with a .500 record we would be displeased. The displeasure ship sailed years ago.

i'm choosing to forget about football and am enjoying the success of volleyball and men's bb. . . . hope Jamie get the women going in the right direction here soon. I'll think about football again in August.

Ya I saw that and it burns me to no end! Downing and his excuses make me sick. He's got to go!

However, Hinrichs should stay because he did what it took to get Tad Boyle here so that has to cancel out the abomination known as Downing

Apparently Tad being here has nothing to do with Jay, and he may even be here in spite of Jay. Jay has to be the first one out.

Believe what you want, I don't really care. What I do know is that the football program is in complete ruins and it starts at the top.

This is what I was going to suggest. Volleyball won the first Big Sky championship for the school, men's BB appears to be on the right track. Ride the wave of success as it happens. Sports are cyclical for the most part. As much as I agree that Hinrichs and Downing should go, football will come back some day. Probably later than most people would like, but it will. I know this is the football thread, but that BB game against CSU was great, and the crowd at BH was awesome. Keep up the fan support for them!!! Also, VB has an NCAA tourney match against U of Washington this afternoon in Fort Collins. If you live in Colorado, you should get to Moby and support them.
 
This really sucks. This is unfair to everyone. The longer he waits, if he does fire Downing it will be hard for him to get an assistant job somewhere else. If he keeps him, then it's unfair to the recruiting staff who have to deal with this for weeks.
 
My only hope is the delay is due to a back door negotiation with a replacement otherwise this is totally bush league to drag this out like this. Like what further inormation will you obtain by waiting... Moronic. :cry:
 
As disappointed as I am with this, it is pretty much par for the course for Jay, stonewalling fans and the media. Maybe this will get him canned, it is pretty bush league. The guy needs to grow a pair and fire Downing! Even if he is trying to negotiate a replacement, fire Downing in the interim!
 
Yeah I agree it's insightfull to a certain level of arrogance where he thinks he doesn't have to answer to anyone. Sorry dude you're a public employee, speak up or ship out.

The longer it drags out the more I know we're screwed, next year will be a total waste and just put us another year behind in getting the right guy in here...

I have zero interest in watching a Downing lead team stink it up again next year. I have a funny feeling next season's attendance will mirror my sentiments. :evil:
 
I don't think its going to happen, Portland State has already fired and hired a new guy, and we have no clue on what's going on. I hope you're right Blo, maybe the delay is because they are doing some behind the scenes interviewing. If not, we're going about this the wrong way, big time.
