Eagles in the Pros

Herd said Dallas, Baltimore and Oakland offered him contracts after the draft, but he believes his chance to make a 53-man roster was best with the Cowboys.

Herd joins former Eagles teammate Matt Johnson in Dallas. The safety out of Tumwater High was a fourth-round selection by the Cowboys last year.

“I was really excited,” Herd said. “It’s pretty crazy. I felt a connection when I talked with the coaches and the scouts down there.

“All you can ask for is an opportunity. It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish.”

Herd cannot begin participating in offseason workouts with the Cowboys until he finishes his final quarter at Eastern, according to NFL rules.

Edwards said three teams were interested in his services: Chicago, Arizona and Minnesota.

Edwards decided that Minnesota was the best fit, and he’ll head out to the team’s rookie camp on Thursday.

Edwards said one of the draws of Minnesota was getting the chance to work with the Vikings’ respected receiving coach, George Stewart.

Edwards said his receivers coach at Eastern Washington, Junior Adams, interned with Minnesota last year and had nothing but good things to say.

“It’s a blessing,” Edwards said. “From top to bottom, they are a great organization, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

2) Buffalo Bills

Key signees: Brandon Kaufman, WR, Eastern Washington; Jeff Tuel, QB, Washington State; Da'Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech; Keith Pough, LB, Howard.

The Bills were looking for receivers, and that's what they got; Kaufman is a good possession type of guy, while Rogers has great speed. Tuel, who has the measurables and arm strength you want in a quarterback, was stuck on a very poor team in college. Pough looked good in workouts and at the combine.

Roos was rated as the 52nd best player of 2012 in the NFL, regardless of position, according to ProFootballFocus.

52. Michael Roos, LT, Tennessee Titans (Unranked)

Season 2012 was a year where Michael Roos got back to his best in emphatic fashion, with a campaign that really deserved more attention then it got. Despite setting up to pass protect on over 600 snaps, Roos allowed just 26 quarterback disruptions and even earned himself a positive grade for his work in the run game. Impressive.

Best Performance: Week 17 versus Jacksonville, +4.4

Key Stat: Gave up one pressure or fewer in seven of his 2012 games.

"I think we’re in good shape at safety." Jones later added, "I don’t know when I’ve ever seen a player impress our staff without having played in a ballgame any more than Matt Johnson."

I saw that on facebook, forgot to post it here. Hopefully Matt will get a chance to play this year and shine, but a ringing endorsement from Jerry Jones isn't worth much.

Post is waiting for an offer from ATL, after the rookie mini-camp tryout.

Edwards was cut after Minnesota's mini-camp, waiting to catch on somewhere else.

Padron, Herd, and Kaufman (not mentioned in the article) will be participating in their rookie mini-camps this weekend.

Meyer and the Shock are destroying Orlando right now 62-41... at halftime.... which breaks the all-time AFL record for points in a half, by 5 points. Erik is 14/18 for 167 yards and 4 TDs no picks passing, plus another TD rushing. On the season he's 196/282 (69.5%) for 2,222 yards, 50 TDs and only 2 INTs... all of which lead the AFL.

When Brandon Kaufman entered the 2013 NFL draft as a junior out of Eastern Washington University, he expected to be drafted.

Kaufman slipped out of the draft due to a very deep class of wide receivers, but was picked up as an undrafted free agent by the Buffalo Bills.

If you can brave the bright red turf of Eastern Washington University and watch Kaufman’s film, you might see the Buffalo Bills have potentially found another David Nelson. Let’s take a look at Kaufman, an early favorite among undrafted free agents to make the Bills’ 53-man roster.

KAUFMAN STANDS TALL
Free agent rookie WR Brandon Kaufman had a solid Sunday with several catches. The Bills lined him up wide and in the slot, and he seemed to be a favorite target of both EJ Manuel and Jeff Tuel. His stature might have something to do with that. Kaufman stands 6-feet-5-inches tall. He had an incredibly productive career at Eastern Washington, catching 221 passes over four years, 33 of them for touchdowns. Kaufman is regarded as a possession receiver and he showed his value Sunday by making several good catches over the middle.

Kaufman said working out of the slot is a new look for him, but something he loves to do.

“In college, I played just outside,” he said. “I’m loving the change. I love being inside, I love working across the middle. The quarterbacks did a great job the last three days helping me out and I feel good about it.”

Most of the rookies in camp the last three days will stay on for the first week of organized team activity, which starts Monday. But Kaufman won’t be one of them.

“I wish I wish, I have to go back to school,” he said. “I’m a junior. It’s killing me right now. I really want to be out here and be with all the vets and learn from the best in the offseason. I’m just going to go home and work my hardest, stay in touch with Coach Hilliard and come back into camp in great shape.”

So, both Edwards and Herd have been cut, correct? Any info on Padron or Post?
Correct. Post was a tryout player with ATL, and is still waiting for a contract offer, which means he likely isn't getting one since their rookie minicamp was last weekend. Padron split reps with Tyler Wilson in Raiders' camp this weekend, but from the sounds of it, will likely be cut. Nothing official yet, as far as I know.

According to this article, Padron has been signed.

He is also on the roster.

To me, that sounds like he made the team. However, I'm not a big football guy, so I can't say that I know how official this is.

EDIT: By football, I meant to put NFL. Huge Eastern football fan, but not a big pro sport fan.

Kaufman is also on the Buffalo Bills roster.

Every player which we have a confirmed "cut" for is not on the roster of the team which cut them. Will Post was never added to a roster and has no confirmed cut.

All except Post were signed as UDFA's after the draft. Post received a rookie mini-camp tryout, after which they decided not to offer him a spot. From reading comments on twitter, I thought that Padron might be cut after the rookie mini-camp, but it looks like they'll keep him on the 90 man roster until they have to make cuts in August. Hopefully he can beat out Pryor for the 3rd QB spot.

Almost seems a little off topic, but arena football is technically professional.
Eric Meyer has been lighting 'em up as QB for the Spokane Shock. Eastern Washington was mentioned several times during last nights broadcast.
Good exposure.
