Matt Nichols’ audition as the Edmonton Eskimos’ starting quarterback came to an early conclusion on Friday night.
Nichols suffered a right knee injury at the 14-minute mark of the first quarter of Edmonton’s Canadian Football league preseason game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He’d just thrown his second interception of the game and was trying to stop Riders’ defensive back Carlos Thomas from running into the end zone.
Nichols hit the ground and rolled over, holding his right knee. He was helped off of the field by the Eskimos’ trainers, examined on the sidelines and was carted off of the field with Mike Reilly assuming control of the Eskimos’ offence.
Shortly after Nichols left the game, 630 CHED’s Dave Campbell posted on Twitter that Nichols was handed crutches when he got to the Eskimos’ locker-room. There has been no confirmation on the severity of the injury.

Thank you to everyone for the thoughts and prayers. Hoping for the best, but will find out in next couple days. #bestfans

Also, I got video of the professors response. Is there any way to post on here without using YouTube?

“I didn’t really give it a thought because I thought I’d make it (in the NFL), but it was intriguing when ‘Rigs’ (general manager Ryan Rigmaiden) talked to me,” Edwards said. “Football is football and I love football, so I took the jump.”
Edwards finished fourth at EWU in career receptions (215), fifth in yards (2,634) and second in touchdowns (33). Those statistics and his 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame attracted NFL interest. He had a tryout with the Minnesota Vikings but was released.
“I was surprised I got released,” he said, “but I have another opportunity here so I have to make the most of it.”

Update on Matt Johnson.
Bo Levi Mitchell wasn't strutting around after his first career start, which featured three touchdown strikes in the Calgary Stampeders' 37-24 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday.
"Happy, but never satisfied," Mitchell said of his performance.
"Complacency is key — to make sure that you're never being complacent, you're always working to get better."
Mitchell, Calgary's third-stringer, got the start ahead of Drew Tate, who sat out with a forearm injury and Kevin Glenn, who's out with an elbow injury. The Texas native completed 29 of 33 pass attempts for 376 yards as the Stampeders advanced to 4-1 on the season.
“It’s going pretty well,” Herd said. “The biggest part was getting the mental part of it down with the playbook. It’s getting a lot easier on the field, so I’m enjoying it.”
Herd, who lives in Tacoma, said he traveled to team headquarters before training camp to watch all of his videos from offseason work and see where he needed to improve.
Seattle’s top receiver from last season, Sidney Rice, also has been a steadying influence for Herd.
“He’s been a big mentor for me so far,” Herd said. “Not even me asking him stuff, but him telling me stuff that he sees. He’s paying attention to stuff that I’m doing, and he’s been a big help so far these first three days.”
“He’s got a great work ethic,” Rice said about Herd. “Running down the field, I try to coach up all the guys as much as possible. I want us to be the best receiving core that we can be, no matter who is out there. And I think Greg has a lot of talent. He listens well and doesn’t make the same mistake twice.”
