EWU at Montana State

Although the style of play is different, the mentality of the Bobcats is a lot like EWU's circa 2010. Thery don't win pretty, they let sub-par teams hang around, and the games are often much closer than they should be. But Montana State knows how to win... as did our 2010 team.

I expect to see their absolute best on Saturday.

Thanks to ROOT, I've seen MSU play more this year and I find this a curious observation ... it may prove to be accurate but my take away so far has been that they have yet to be challenged and their talent so far has let them overcome weaker teams. I wonder what will happen when they get punched in the mouth? Are they the cats of old that roll over in the first round of the playoffs or do they have the fortitude to come back from 3 scores down with one and a half quarters left in the game like the 2010 Chipper? I don't think they've demonstrated that mental toughness yet. On the other hand, this year's version of the EAGs showed that in spades during the UM game!

I do agree that we'll see their best this Saturday and it should be another great game for ROOT!

No chance for EWU if they play defence like they have been ! This team wont roll over if theyre down ! Not an MSU fan, fact is I cant stand them however, they have owned us the past 2 yrs and EWU will have to play a WHOLE lot better than the past 2 games to still be in it at the end !! Just facts man, just an observation ! GOEAGS !!

I don't know "Nail. UND was #2 in the BSC in scoring and total offense and we held them to 325 yards and 17 points. MSU is #2 and #6. I'm not saying that the Griz game was an anomaly, but that Griz rushing attack is going to do something similar to a whole bunch of teams this year. BTW, MSU is #8 in rushing offense.

If our defense plays like it did against UND I think we win this one by a couple of scores.

Hope your right Kalm !!! Ive been pissed more than once in Bozeman !!!! Not to mention , their fans were the rudist of any we visited !!! GOEAGS!!! Cool that its on Root Sports !! Finally a grreat picture for viewing !!!

All fan groups have some bad apples. I experienced it a few years ago when the Eagles were down big at half and made a big comeback in the 4th qtr. They were pissed!
As I think of that game and this one we could very well see the same scenario this week. If we do fall behind early, I could see the "cardiac kids" take the mo and pull out a win!

Good lord. Can we all call truce on "x team has the rudest/meanest/most classless fans" thing. I almost lost it when a bunch of butt hurt griz fans posted an actual picture of a certain former cheerleader of ours that was apparently being too mean for the UM fans sitting in our north end zone. I highly doubt wearing a color that isn't maroon wouldn't gather an equal or greater welcome from fans in the N end zone at WaGriz. We're all competing BSC fans. Aside from rare exceptions, if you are in a opponents stadium, grow some thick skin and take your lumps. End rant.

Agree 100%

If you cross paths with some drunk idiot, they are going to come across as classless. It really doesn't matter which school, if you see them and watch the way they're behaving and attribute those behaviors to the entire body of their fans, you come up with some bad ideas of how horrible their fans are.

Most teams have a majority fanbase of good people just like we do.

Oh and by the way, flying nail-- what the hell man? Did you not watch the UND game? Can you beat someone more than that? Come on...

Yep was at the game Eag, we musy have beed watching something different ! I saw a ND team walk ALL over our D the first 2 drives only to have someone play cribbage with their QBs. I know you think we made adjustments that changed the outcome, perhaps, what I saw was a team quit on themselves when they got down by 2 scores. We did finally crush their spirit, havent seen that in a long time. I dont think MSU will do that! We need to play mistake free football and contain their QB on those 3rd and long situations, this is gonna be a VERY physical game and the one with the takeaways will prevail ! GOEAGS!

Very true...for both teams. In looking at MSU's stats the two things standing out are their 56% third down conversion rate on offense  and 26% rate on D.

MSU is very interesting to me because they seem to hang on by the seem of their pants with turnovers and converting big third downs. Does that mean they really should be blowing people out more than they do or perhaps they're getting lucky and might be a bit over rated?

As far as the 3rd down thing, we've generally put ourselves in 3rd and medium/short and haven't had to convert a ton of third and longs (with the exception of the UC Davis game). Defense has been the opposite. We've been really stout against the run and that has led to a lot of third and longs for opponents.

Our biggest issue defensively this year has been giving up the big pass plays generally on 1st or 2nd down.

On paper this should be a really high scoring game, which probably means the final score will be 5-0.

Your pup QB played great against UND, at home. We let him loose and we're in trouble.

Let's see how he does against 21,000 and a better pass rush than UM.

Can't wait for this GAME!!

“The road through the conference championship goes through Eastern,” Ash said. “The road goes through there just like it goes through Bozeman and Missoula. Eastern is one of the premier teams in the Big Sky Conference. We knew we had to beat them in 2010 to have a chance to get in the race. We did that. From that day on, this rivalry has been established. They had a tremendous finish to that season, winning the national championship. Last year, they were so beat up with injuries, it was impossible to repeat. But they are a fabulous program and one of the key teams in this conference. If you have aspirations to be at the top of this conference, you have to beat Eastern.”

  Really, you are aware that other than that 2010 season (which appears more like a historic fluke) EWU has won a grand total of 2 playoffs games in the last 10 years, Hmm that's the same amount as the Cats

Maybe hanna should stop spending time chasing fizz tools :thumb:

Yeah, I never agree with that "we can take punches" mentality. The sign of a good team isn't the ability to comeback and win games. The sign of a good team is coming out prepared, getting in front early, and putting your foot on the other teams throat. More often that not, games are won in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarter.

I like boxing analogies, but do you want to be a fighter who loses the first four rounds while getting knocked down a couple of times only to take command late? Or do you want to walk across the ring and hti the guy with a left-hook, overhand-right 2-3 combo that puts him to sleep in the first round? Knock the guy out early and take your paycheck.

And if you can't do that, and face it some teams won't let you KO them early, keep executing all game long. Force the other team to play perfect to stay in the game. The game is won by the team who shows up to play every down.

And FWIW, Eastern is typically a get-in-front-early kind of team. Even in the Griz game, we played very well early on. What Eastern has had a ton of trouble with in recent years is putting the other team to the sword. We sort of look for big plays when just smashing away is the better option.

I'll take that historic fluke any day of the week....

You also realize in the last 9 times we have played the cats, you have won twice...might as well install red turf with all your new additions to the stadium, we'd prefer it that way...

7 straight wins from 2003-2009. Need to get back on track starting Saturday.

At the coaches show on Monday I was sitting at the same table as Jerry Ceja. When I mentioned the Bobcats taking Taiwan out in 2010 he said, Ya we have a lot of getting even to do.
Cats are in TROUBLE!!
